    I woke up wondering how to use cold wax & acrylic...here you are! Thank you so much for sharing!!

      Oh wow...that’s great. See? That’s why I love to share what I am doing here in the studio. Just remember, once the cold wax goes down, no more acrylics, just solvent-based products or other inclusions like shaved pastels, alcohol inks, gold leaf, etc. Thanks for watching...hope you will subscribe. ❤️

    Had no idea that I could mix cold wax with alcohol inks

    Also can you do this as a background and once it dries then do an acrylic pour on top. This technique is so fascinating to me

    • @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist
      @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist  Před rokem

      No…once you use cold wax, you can’t put any water based mediums on top of it. It will just resist the paint. You can put acrylic under the cold wax but not on top, even after it dries.

    Can you do this on canvas that you have layed down a acrylic paint design as a background

    • @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist
      @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist  Před rokem

      It’s not really recommended to put cold wax on a canvas since the canvas can flex and crack the dried wax. You can, however, put cold wax on top of an acrylic background on a hard surface like a cradled panel, or even on paper that you carefully adhere to a solid surface after the painting dries.

    Gorgeous result! Once he cold wax dries, can you work more on top of it with acrylic paint?

    • @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist
      @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist  Před 3 lety

      No once you put down cold wax and oil you can’t use acrylic again. Just underneath.

    • @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist
      @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist  Před 3 lety

      @@CuadritosDeColores yes as long as you don’t spill alcohol on it which will dissolve the ink and acrylic. You can use a spray fixative if you want more protection

    HI, did you wait for the gesso to completely dry before starting to add the inks? Thanks :)

    • @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist
      @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist  Před 2 lety +2

      Yep always wait for the water based layer to dry completely before adding another layer on top. You don’t want those layers to intermix. Especially since either alcohol ink nor cold wax is water based. Thanks for the comment and for watching ❤️

    Great video! But I had my volume up to '100' and still strained to hear. Went to another video on the side panel (forgetting to turn down my volume) and I relived that scene from 'Back to the Future' where the speaker blows him back across the room. Maybe a microphone?? But cool stuff, nonetheless. Thx.

      Hi there, and thanks for the comment. I went in and viewed this video…the sound was fine on my iPad and when I casted to my TV, too. Others haven’t seemed to have a sound issue, however, I have had sporadic comments on a couple other videos about low sound on which the sound is ok for me and other viewers. I’m really not sure why this happens. Rest assured, if I did, I would fix it. I appreciate you watching! I would be interested in hearing if you view others of my videos, if you have sound issues on those as well because I use the same mic volume on all of them. Again…thanks for the comment ❤️

    I don't know if it's a good idea to mix alcohol with the mineral spirits and resin in the cold wax? Did you research that first for toxicity and chemical reactions?
    WARNING:
    COLD WAX IS VERY FLAMMABLE!! DO NOT USE HEAT TOOLS ON COLD WAX!!

    • @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist
      @SallyVanNuysMixedMediaArtist  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for the concern…both products are solvent based so it is safe to mix them. They both contain resin, and cold wax can be mixed safely with mineral spirits. So, there are no problems with mixing. The only thing I dried with the heat tool was the initial acrylic layers, not the wax layer. Thanks for watching!
