They should’ve started the movie with her waking up and finding him. Then the big twist is that she later finds out that he woke her up.
Yup...
I thought that happend- my memory of this movie is hazy
thats really interesting... im sure it was considered but wonder why it wasnt implemented. possibly too cliché?
@@ryanclayborn4176 they might've preferred that we experience the predicament Jim was feeling after he fundamentally stranded someone with him? at least i personally preferred that.
Who knows a great film editor that can create a badass super cut of this movie? I could write the entire screen play for it. Essentially it’s that idea, but right after the twist is revealed we get flashbacks to show his experience and cut back and forth through the remainder of the movie, then chop it off at the end for a more mysterious ending
This is how it feels when you wake up before anyone else at a sleepover
Yo soy la primera 😂
This is an underrated comment

HAHAHAAH
What.. you then in turn wake up the next mofo
I’ve watched the Aurora Cut which is a fan made edit of the film where it starts from Aurora waking up & uses clever edits so you don’t find out that it’s Jim until the reveal on the date, completely changes the atmosphere & tone of the film

I need that version, man.
Wow her name is Aurora. As in sleeping beauty!
No as in Roman goddess of dawn. Geez. Thats who Sleeping beauty is named after.
It's very different.
Well they cant name her character straight up SleepinBeauty lol.
Love it when people find this very obvious "nod" out they act like they broke the code for rocket science.
@@datatsushi2016 It seems to me like they were just excited.
1:23 Chris Pratt is excellent at acting out emotions no one wants to have. For example, the all-consuming grief at finding his wife and daughter murdered in _The Terminal List._ Here, his face screams of the horror of what he has done.
if your were Aurora I would have woken you up to just so I wouldn't have to be alone I promise you that
That look at 0:08. That is a desperate man.
(Well acted, Mr. Pratt.)
At first you think of this as of a selfish act, then you realize that in the greater picture it was all part of the flow of destiny carved by the plot..had he not woken up, they'd have all died..had he not woken her up as well, again, they'd have all died.
He should wake up all people who can help him, like someone who can make a bomb to destroy a crew door room, then fix all damn thing, after that doing sleep procedure again all over from the start, we can see on the movie, all crew are the last one who put to sleep. This movie show how jim selfish act become an idiot act
@@brianxiaomi9446 they were all civilians...the only people capable of modifying the ship were in the crew section, beyond that door.
@@brianxiaomi9446 destiny includes the selfish act, all of its repercussions and emotions including damnation and.. eventual resolution by grace as it weaves the perfect story with increasing synchronicities and greater cosmic love/courage.
To be clear, Im just speaking story more poetically from the heart not facts as people have defined it. In my experience, in higher states of consciousness, it all "seems" to melt into a state where poetry and fact are one.. as the unfolding is pure creation and infinite power of a TOTALLY malleable reality.
It still is a selfish act, he can't predict the future - he's thinking about himself and this could easily have been a horror movie.
Destiny doesn't exist
What I am surprised about is that there is only 1 medical pod on deck. If there was an extra, both Jim and Aurora could be asleep.
taxpayer money hard at work 😜🤭
@@AshmorRaddant1990 It is stupid. They leave a suspend option in their med pod. If that's the case the med pod would become unavailable for the rest of the 4,999 passengers on board. What kind of shit planning is this that they wouldn't include an extra med pod in lieu of a basketball court....
@@LtKaiser I presume that perhaps the med pod can do the procedures to hibernate people, and then they're transferred into the other pods, and the pods themself are what reawakens them. I imagine that they don't need to be in that medpod to stay asleep, but who knows? It would be rather weird to have that one only. Unless if there are others that weren't found/shown? It wouldn't have been a big thing though then because they could both hibernate. It makes me curious now.

Because of this pandemic I actually felt the loneliness Jim had in this movie. I mean, he was able to live alone for a year and here we are complaining of how boring it is doing the same thing over and over again locked in our homes for just a couple of months. 😂😂😂

I want a prequel of this movie
So... Just 60 minutes of an empty ship?
Wtf does that even mean?
Game app reviewer meant a prequel showing them on earth or something.
@@caulibba7644 Yes, thank you.
Just Why?
The funny thing is, while everyone harps on Jim for his choice, most people miss that Aurora was willing to do the same thing. When they realize it's a dead man switch situation, and Jim will have to sacrifice himself to save everyone else, Aurora basically says "you can't leave me alone on this ship, I'd rather everyone die that be alone." She was willing to kill 5000+ people to avoid being alone and people don't even remember it. Jim wakes up ONE person and has the decency to acknowledge it was wrong, be accountable to it when discovered, and offer to sacrifice his own sanity to give Aurora back her chance at life, and somehow he's the greatest villain of all time.
Bit of a double standard, don't ya think? Almost like it's not about "man wronged a woman", but instead "isolation will do bad things to good people".
LittleHobbit, I agree with you completely. I'm so glad someone else noticed that.
You might be right, if you esclude the difference of him actually doing it, and she saying she would do it. We, and movie characters especially, constantly use iperbole in this way. I'd rather die than x, but very few mean it literally, they might, but just saying it is not at all indicative as to whether they would follow through.
My point is not to claim that she is a better person than him, but that your comparison of actions and declarations is comparing apple and oranges
@@Original2BBB She was literally telling Jim not to sacrifice himself and leave her alone. As far as what she has power over, that counts as "actually doing it".
@@LittleHobbit13 no actually doing it would be coercing him to stay and sacrifice everyone else, like he forced her to wake up. Speech, of any nature, does not equate physical coercion, especially in an emotional moment played for drama.

If you think about it, what Jim did to Aurora in this film is similar to what Eve did to Adam in the biblical stories (Genesis). After eating from the apple (waking up on the ship) and becoming aware of their mortality, as well as their exile from paradise, they put that same fate onto their partners by making them also "wake up."

@@Tinoco1x it wasn’t a punishment. god clearly wanted this to happen. he warns adam and eve away from the fruit, but in the same way a father would “warn” his child away from doing something he intends them to do.
god seems, in this passage, to know the difference between good and evil but not to understand good and evil as subjective concepts. thus humans exist in mortal lives, in a moral world. the result of eating the fruit is not just to die, but to live in a world with consequences.
that means, we would have to be human. truly human. and god clearly wanted us to be human.
i think that the common interpretation of our lives as punishment is COMPLETELY at odds with the actual story of adam and eve. it’s actually a really beautiful story, about how human subjectivity makes us human- lets us see the world and see God in a way that couldn’t be done without our presence. it’s gorgeous.
but sure. life is a punishment because two people did something “bad”- learn about humanity. that’s a satanic interpretation in my personal opinion but i know it’s taught at the pulpit.

Incredibly advanced AI ship wakes up an engineer knowing he would fall for aurora and wake her up to. Using human love and survival as a means to make them fix all the damage to the ship, it even wakes up the captain but not fully, because if he didn't die then Aurora wouldn't be alone if James died which wouldn't create a strong need to fix the ship and live. A smart AI indeed.
Is this actually what was intended
that would have been a much better plot line, the ship waking one or two people capable of fixing the ship and then creating an adam and eve situation.
@@Mrdubomb That's some messed up AI damn. And someone had to program it.

Interestingly, if he did not wake her, they probably would all have died. It took the two of them to save the ship.
Yep that’s exactly right it’s like it was destiny
How cute and silly jimmy woke up aurora and that cracks me up. Jimmy ran scared cause he was blushing.
No he wasn't, Jim was desperate for some company and he was focused on that but after he woke her up, it sort of made it real and a mixture of panic guilt stress and regret kicked in over the realisation of what he's just done as he's condemned her to share his fate.
I thought he did that to cover his tracks
No, he ran because he realized immediately the horror of what he'd just done.
while watching this scene, i thought it reminded me a little of the genesis ... adam and eve !!! even adam felt only at the beginning and so god sent him eva, but in this case it was adam himself who "woke her up" !!
Also in this Adam is the bad guy, whereas in the Bible Eve was portrayed as such.

If I recall, Aurora decides NOT to use the Autodoc pod that can be used to put one person back to sleep. She decides not to use it and spends the rest of her time with James instead.
The absolute agony of this on Jim’s face but not wanting to be alone anymore made this movie so good!
Your were gonna start an amazing life on another planet... instead you're trapped alone with no hope of escape. But one day you realize your dream man/lady exists and you could wake them up... and alone on the ship they'd sleep with you and fall for you even though you'd normally have no chance with them.
Its messed up and selfish, but how many men or women in that situation would be able to control themselves?
He didn't wake her up because she was his "dream girl" that he'd normally have no chance with. He woke her up to avoid being alone anymore. Did you miss the part where he was in the process of committing suicide right before he found her? It's not about "controlling himself", it's about being so desperate to survive that your survival instincts overwhelm your better moral judgement.
I would have totally woken up multiple chicks at different points in time for some variety. I'd get rid of the ones who find out the truth. I'm kidding I would have offed myself before I condemned somebody else to death like what Jim did.
@@LittleHobbit13Then he would’ve woke up a man he would’ve related more to as far as social needs. It’s very fitting that they named her Aurora. A sleeping beauty indeed.
The question remains.... was Chris Pratt justified in waking up the blonde; was it a selfish act or was it meant to be?! The end justifies the means.... but Chris Pratt could not have seen this coming!
Poor Aurora :(
As effed up as this movie is, I'd still take that trip. Go to sleep, boom, new planet.
It's crazy how strong the urge is to be social when you're part of a social species.
Also, 1:42, Christ Pratt is an amazing actor !!! You can see him wretching and nearly puking, fully conscious/well aware of the trauma, pain, and hopelessness he just brought onto/into Aurora's life. He knows he'll have to confront the consequences of his actions, eventually. But, he doesn't want to feel alone. Lost. Hopeless. Helpless. He wants to be "saved". If I were a guy (which I'm not), I'm amazed/impressed at Jim's self-control. A year? Most guys probably couldn't go 2 weeks without some sort of company... ESPECIALLY female company, tbh...
Bs. It s women who are more pragmatic in questions like morality, you explsin it as you see it fits your needs.
This movie was infuriating to watch.
How could people make a ship with zero fail-safes in the event a passenger woke up early?
They made fail safes. no fail safe is ever perfect. Something happened that defeated or weakened all the fail safes iin the system at once. That's what started the cascade failure that would have doomed the ship. Even a very robust vessel is doomed if everything goes exactly wrong for an extended period of time because you can't cover every possible contingency
"You won't catch me behind the wheel of a Chrysler ever again..."
Poor lady.
we should’ve seen the movie from her pov
why does mans say hello like that
Everyone woulda died if he stayed lonely. Good job Man
Well there is a glaring flaw in all of this. The plan was always to fly the ship back to Earth. The crew was going to wake up, help the passengers settle to a new planet and then fly back. The crew needed a way to go back to hibernation. In this movie there is only one medical bay pod that could put one person into hibernation, so was the rest of the crew just supposed to die of old age? Aurora had planned and paid for a round trip, she was supposed to come back, so was the whole crew just supposed to die of old age or was Aurora supposed to fly the ship back alone and put herself into hibernation?
Besides if the ship had any problems surely they had designed for a crew member or two to automatically wake up, wouldn't have they then also designed for them to go back to hibernation again.
There might be a facility on the planet they’re going to to put people to sleep.
@@lucyhartwell2134 They are the settlers, they have the equipment.
Send hibernating people back to the ship? Have people moving between the ship in orbit (because no way they can land that whole vessel, it has to stay in orbit) and the planet? That is incredibly wasteful and dangerous. Why would the settlers have equipment to put people into hibernation? Why would they need that? Wouldn't the spaceship need it more? Who is going to take off? Is one person doomed to die alone?
@@KNYD First of all, we're not told that these are the *first* settlers of Homestead II. This seems unlikely, given that most of them seem to be rich people rather than workers. So, it's entirely possible there is already a colony on the planet, with a hibernation facility.
Second, of course people are put to sleep on the planet and then flown up to the ship in orbit- how do you think they got the settlers from Earth onto the ship in the first place?
Third, it may be easier, safer, or more space efficient to have the hibernation facility on the planet instead of on the ship.
Fourth, given that the Avalon can fly all the way there on autopilot, I daresay it can also take off on autopilot, too.
@@lucyhartwell2134 the medical pod can put people into hibernation, it is the same size as all the other pods and it has many other functions.
You're saying that a small colony would have the means and resources to send people to and back from orbit? They have finite space, why would they pack equipment for space travel, when they are trying to colonise a planet. Also Jim says the cargo is mainly farming equipment.
Where do you gather that most are rich? When they walk around the people still in hibernation and Jim is making Aurora guess at random what people do for a living, they are gardeners and midwifes. Jim's a mechanical engineer, Aurora's a journalist, they are not rich. According to Aurora they are paying their trip by giving 20% of their wages to the company for the rest of their lives and they are accumulating debt while they are on the spaceship.
Earth is not a colony. Just because something can be done on Earth it does not mean the same thing can be achieved in a colony.
Jim mentioned that everyone underwent multiple procedures before going into hibernation.
i would go in pod for just a dam good sleep
Morpheus should have taken the Blue Pill so he could get back to hibernation.
In the case of any emergency pod failure whether one or not it should've automatically woken up the crew of the ship. I don't get why that wouldn't have been a fail safe added.
There is no evidence that you can actually put someone back in a pod. A mechanic believes a piece of medical equipment can do it but they never find out if he's right.
The crew will have duties when they get where they're going. Gus is already going to be severely missed. The more crew are missing the more dangerous the colonization mission becomes.

@@jesseward4115 There are a lot of unrealistic aspects of this movie. But long term hibernation isn't really being asleep, it's being dead or almost dead, preventing rot, and then bringing them back to life. But yes, they would have more life extension technology at this point.

My gut says that Jim woke you up
Plot twist! Who woke him up?
He woke up due to the ship's reactor becoming damamaged by something putting a hole in the ship. meteor is blamed but also mentioned that the ship was supposed to be capable of dealing with such a threat. Not explained where the hole came from.
Damage to the reactor's monitoring computer caused failsafes to engage, other components of the ship trying to handle the reactor computer's workload, but they didn't quite have the capacity to compensate, and as computational loads shifted onto things not designed to handle them, that triggered the early release of Jim's pod due to... reasons.
Frankly I think the ship's AI decided to beg for help.
@@hagamapama Wow! That's a very thorough explanation! Kudos to you my friend.
What Jim did was very human and also very flawed. Those snowflakes bashing his character have no idea what true suffering is, and what it can do to the mind. Focus not on his mistake, but on Aurora's wonderful and equally human ability to forgive him.
I think a bit of humility would also help. Would any of us have done differently, with nothing and no one but our own thoughts to talk us out of desperation? I think only God would have done differently. Fallen humans are not strong enough to resist something like that.
@Alan James I think I would have gone crazy in less than a month. The man deserves credit for struggling a whole year by himself. The only way to survive it would be God, but this story doesn’t really include that option.
She wanted to live for 300 plus years, yea just as lost as he was!

Aurora did not forgive him, she understood that without him waking her up the whole airship would have been destroyed. It is easy to forgive when the other option was to explode.

Someone once suggested this is how the movie should've started (or at least from her perspective of waking up), without knowing his story the whole thing is so much darker and everywhere she goes is like a crime scene.
