    How do you deal with that low frequency humming noise ? While rattling is fixed isn't this hum annoying ? I'm new here and wonder if all external canisters makes this hum. It's problem to isolate it and it can be heard in a whole room.

    FYI, petroleum based lubricants like Vaseline will break down rubber and destroy the seals, I would not recommend using it. Instead, use silicone or a water based lubricant instead.

      Don't use any lubricants between the bushing and the shaft - the bushing is supposed to keep the shaft immobile and lubricant won't help there. Also, don't use water based lubricants since they will dissolve in water.

    Just to be clear the magnet actually doesn't touch anything. Lubing it doesn't do anything, doesn't hurt but it won't silence a filter. Noise is from a broken shaft or the impeller has become out of balance from wear. Always get a few extra new impeller assemblies and have them on hand.

    • @RandB_Aquatics
      @RandB_Aquatics Před 5 měsíci

      Very right my guys. Not only does it not touch anything inside, its actually sorrounded by water in most filters meaning the lube will go straight into the water column

    • @ArsenicShooter
      @ArsenicShooter Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah it’s the impeller plastic hitting the seat, you’re right it is an imbalance. I used to work with big pumps and with enough power it can also wear out the seat it’s in (and it should not touch). But it doesn’t make a lot of damage if replaced fast enough on a canister filter. 😊

    Watched lots of videos including this one. I’m almost confident to say, people claim their filters “silent” when sound level is 55 dB from 3 inches away.
    I was torn by this sound level because 55 dB is LOUD to me. I guess my cascade 1000 is just awful by itself and that’s why it’s much cheaper than other canisters.

    • @yourlocaltoad5102
      @yourlocaltoad5102 Před 3 lety

      In my experience the eheim classics are the best for people who are very sensitive to sound.
      I have the Classic 150 running right next to my bed and I can only hear it when it’s really absolutely silent in the room and I open the stand and put my head close to the filter.
      I seriously can’t tell if the filter is running or not if I don’t look at the tank and see the plants moving.
      The classic 250 is not quite as silent, but having it in a enclosed stand and using nothing but filter foam still brought it to a level where I couldn’t hear it if the stand was closed.
      So if you ever wanna change your filter, I‘d definitely recommend the eheim classics and nothing but filter foam as a filtration media.

    • @misenko856
      @misenko856 Před 11 měsíci

      This. 55db is incredibly loud. The problem I found is not the sound of some water flowing through it but very unpleasant low humming noise from impeller vibrations. This low FQ is transiting through a cabinet since these frequencies are hard to dampen. I've bought Auquael Ultramax 1500 where people claimed it's dead silent and you have to put your ear on it to see if it's running. I say what ? This thing is loud as well even in a close cabinet. Woder if einhel of fluval vibrates like this as well.

  • @ArsenicShooter

    Wooow 63 décibels 😮. Just for clarification: never grease any gasket with petroleum. In the first place it seems to lubricate, but in the end, it attacks the rubber. It is important to use silicone only (without toxic additives like jbl silicone spray). There are some rubbers that withstand petroleum/vaseline, but for safety and to avoid to shorten its life and end up with a leak, I’d go with silicone only. Just fyi 😊

      I had the exact same issue. Heard the shaft is fragile, so I went ahead and ordered the maintenance kit. Put it back together and it still doesnt work, plus broke the new shaft. With no resistance, it will spin for a few seconds and then stops. I feel the part I missed was lubing the shaft. That is my last option before hanging it up.

    The part with lubricating is so wrong... Water is the lubricant between the shaft and the impeller. Do not do this. It serves no purpose and the viscosity is wrong so it could even slow your filter down and make your pump work overtime due to the added resistance!
