8:17 - not really true. I've got two "old" Phantom Golds, and not too long ago Devialet issued new software, which among other things changed the name of my speakers to Phantom I 108dB, and I think the software is the same for all these speakers now. I guess there's a chance _I'm_ wrong, though. But at any rate, my Golds are now called Phantom I 108dB in the Devialet app, and there was a "warning" when I updated the software that my speakers would be renamed.

-That said, I should add that I don't have Airplay or Airplay 2, which the new generation does. But I don't use Airplay personally, so it's not a problem for me.

I bought the Phantom Gold a month before they upgraded and renamed my speaker, but I also got Airplay in my version. I'm just a bit concerned about the new one being matt white because if I want to go stereo with it, I'll need to find a similar older version

John, I live in NYC and I've been to the Devialet store many times. As of now I own four Bluesound Pulse 2i's. I chose them over Devialet because Bluesound's software is "considered" mature. Still, there are plenty of bugs. I would love to upgrade to Devialet but the thought of investing so much money to have yet more buggy software doesn't appeal to me. I need speakers that are Roon RAT Ready, which works seamlessly with Tidal and can easily be integrated into a 4K multi-channel movie situation. What no one ever talks about is the software? What does the Devialet software look like? How does it function? How buggy is it? Are there dropouts or syncing issues? Besides stereo music could you use these speakers in a multichannel 4K movie set-up? Wireless speakers are notorious for being buggy. Do several Devialet speakers pair seamlessly? I highly doubt it. We need proof that they don't suffer from the same faults as the generation 1 speakers, which couldn't be paired even in stereo mode. These speakers cost a lot of money. They need to work seamlessly, easily, and without issues.

I had two old Phantoms. They were the first generation speakers which required Dialogue to turn them into stereo speakers. I wanted to upgrade to newer generations that allowed Apple Airplay, but the cost was prohibitive. But they are now offering an upgrade program. I am very pleased with the new speakers. Well worth the investment. With Airplay enabled, it's so much easier to use.

    1. It is not robust. That is a myth. The speaker caps dent easily. I took it apart. Its thin aluminum that does not spring back. Devialet does not repair anything. Dented caps on a $3200 speaker with no recourse. They are paper thin. This is going to happen to every single speaker ever produced.
    2. Try opening it up to check inside or fix/ replace anything. Good luck. The speaker caps are glued on, and there is a magnetized nut deep inside. After you pry off the cap which takes 30 mins of hard work, your socket wrench flies around inside as the magnets make it slip around. After 30 mins you might get lucky and loosen it. Then you work on the second side. Two other nuts also both overtightened. Risk of shock from latent current inside as well. After you get the whole thing opened up with major surgery, you realize the dents are unfixable due to paper thin aluminum. So you cannot just press it out - it does not spring back like plastic. You just keep making smaller dents. Its futile. Permanent bad looks.
    3. Overpriced, way too heavy, impossible to open, impossible to fix, this makes a great doorstop. Devialet charges $450 just to look at it, then tells you they don't fix it. Cost to mail to them in the US is over $120 for 11 kg of weight + heavy packaging. Cost of a remote is $200. For $3200 they could not include a remote control plastic disc???!!! They are greedier than the Mafia.
DO NOT BUY. There are better options for a lot less. Don't be a fool with your money and get scammed. This is a fad.

Differences are based on two seperate aspects:
The Design of the product and its color.
Your choice should be driven by this aspect, as Phantom is going to sit in your home and it's preferable to think forward on the rest of your furniture where its going to be sit.
Dimension of all version of Phantom are the same
    Width: 253 mm | Height: 255 mm | Depth : 343 mm
    Weight: 11,4 kg
    Its Sound Quality
From this aspect, no worry all models are going to play tracks you know by heart so differently, that's thrilling! The sound quality is the same from all models and you will have same possibility to use between all models (Airplay, Bluetooth or Wifi).
Only the Gold Phantom and the Phantom Opéra have a (Grade 1) Titanium tweeter driver
from a specificity perspective, there are major differences between models.
So only the mat finish is the new thing, i have two old gold.

Cracks me up whenever I hear an American (I am one too) bragging about having 2 phantom golds @ 9000 watts!@!@ Riiiight. Even with one you'll have to over current that room's breaker because, unless my maths wrong, the most you'll get out of a residential common breaker is 15A witch at 120v peaks at 1,800 watts. You might say, well I'll just switch it to a 20A breaker then. I'd reply that you run the risk of starting a fire unless you replace the in-wall cable to a large gauge. Even if you're dumb enough to do all that for speaker, the 5 amp jump will only land you ~2,500 watts. A far cry from the advertised 4,500 watts. They should state it boldly that you'll only ALMOST reach it with a 220v outlet. So enjoy listening to it in the kitchen or the laundry room because most houses only have the 2 receptacles @ 220v here in the US. Then again you could always install a separate sub panel with, like, a tandem 25A breaker totaling 50A (normally reserved for garages and the like) and running it with 6 gauge Romex at about $6.75/foot. Not to mention having to invent the power outlet because one doesn't exist that can carry enough current to supply 4,500 watts unless Divialet will include an Electric Range Oven cord instead. So yeah... a little over-hyped imho.

The presenter or the store only wants to sell. First of all: the only different component is the CPU which gives you a faster and more responsive user experience. 2nd: he said that the “old” phantom gold would not upgrade for the new software. It’s a lie. I have 2 phantom golds and besides upgrading to the latest DOS they are now called phantom I 108 (the app even poped a message after the update saying that the product changed the name) and Now we have access to roon. The amplifier, DAC and other sound processing chips, drivers and case are exactly the same. So yeah. Who has gold ones, it’s really not worth to buy new ones, unless there’s any form of upgrading them like a trade in programme.

The power is the same!! Devialet have only ever stated 4500w which is PEAK power… they have always been 1100w RMS, they just never stated RMW wattage, only the peak to talk about the very highest level of power. So please, don’t worry about a difference in sound, there is none, the power is the same, the sound is still amazing!

One question, isn't the Phantom I [108dB] stated from Devialet as 1100W as the Original Phantom (the Gold) is stated as 4500W ? So the new Phantom I lineup is lower in Watts RMS then the Orginal Phantom. Original Phantom was I think 2000W, Silver was 3000W and the Gold was 4500W. Those are crazy numbers for this size of a speaker, but what do you think about performance wise between those generations? Pro's on the new speakers = New Software, New Hardware, cons = lower in wattage. Thanks for the review, I've been planing on purchasing this bad boys for some time now. Are the low, mid and highs the same?
Judging by what’s on paper, it’s still the same titanium tweeters and aluminium bass drivers.. nothing has changed so the sound should be little to no difference at all. In my opinion, if you have a phantom GOLD, there’s no need to upgrade to the Phantom I unless you’re just chasing the matte finishes.

As far as I know, there is no difference. I went to a dealer and he told me, there were no changes to the hardware whatsoever. I´m pretty sure its mostly software, and they can update the old phantoms aswell. I bought an old glossy version, because I wanted to safe the money and liked the look more. And as far as I´m concerned, it does what it should :D

    • @techpulseYT
      @techpulseYT Před rokem

@@TheSecondProject2he gold is 4500w and the standard is 2000w (peak) rms this is 1100 for the gold and 500 for the standard. Volume wise Gold is 108db, standard is 103db, still plenty. The gold can achieve an slightly lower frequency response to 14hz instead of 16 on the standard, and it’s extra power/headroom sorts this! Sound quality on the gold is a tad better thanks to the titanium tweeter, and obviously with the increased power it’ll sound more ‘powerful’ but none the less the 103db is fantastic!
As for the old gen vs new Gen. The differences are in finish, so matte instead of glossy, and you get the remote in the box etc. software is more up to date as is the Bluetooth and airplay! Hope this helps

Did you actually notice any difference in user experience? I have two Phantom Golds, one of which I purchased from your store last year. Also, do you know if syncing four phantoms is possible with the app, like I am currently doing with two, or will I need the dialog?

Amazing product indeed, too bad it is still unfinished! Impossible to make it work with windows 10 for example: the bluetooth ID appears as a Glucometer. After several weeks of trying to fix the problem with technical services, I ended up handing it over. Don't waist your time and money!

I have watched all of the videos I could find on the phantom, and love them all, I still think it's crazy even with a recording then playing that recording on my phone speakers it is still better quality than just listening to the music app on my phone.

      @kencur9690 Před rokem

Lol, that is physically impossible. I mean, it shows the clear cognitive bias in perception. You want it to sound better so it does.
Let’s take a look at the reality behind this:
You are listening to a source as interpreted by your device and as interpreted by the Devialet as interpreted by your device. If the source called for a low frequency to be outputted (bass sound) and you don’t hear it on your phone because it can’t handle it, it is true that the Devialet might handle it but your device will still not handle: it will not suddenly and magically deliver that sound just because it is reproducing a reproduced sound! So whatever sounds you can hear thanks to your device you will hear in both occasions, and whatever you can’t, you won’t. As simple as that.
What else... we’ll, there’s DAC. And it’s true that the Devialet will have a better one so it will reproduce the sound better, but we’re still at the same spot of our earlier example: if your DAC couldn’t handle it first time, why would it handle it now? Very iffy proposition.
So that leads us to the third possibility: the source. And this may indeed be it. Perhaps the recording the Devialet is playing is simply better, and your own app is playing really crappy versions. This is far more likely to be the case and shows just how important source is. Most people spend a lot of money on equipment and forget all about the main element: a clean and well-recorded source. So perhaps start by improving that? Invest in a pair of headphones and you’re already getting better results than the Devialet as used in most cases, since I bet you most people who buy this have no clue about acoustics.

They are pretty good but good god they have very minimal and very very lacking mids especially for $3500, $1200 would be the most if pay for it with that, if they get the mids it's absolutely insane but till then absolutely not worth it

    ***VERY POOR REVIEW***
Well the new look is nice! HOWEVER, you did not compare it adequately. There is important features and differences you missed and could have brought up instead of PUSHING THE SALE! Rather frustrating to be honest. A few key points, difference in power 4800w original vs. 1100w (new model) - how does the sound compare at 1/4 the power!?! Secondly the reactors (smaller version) had top controls on the speakers, does the this one have the same tech or is it more simple? And if you wanted to get into a little bit deeper (not necessary on a quick review) - is the software better and how. Anyways a true review isn’t about selling the product it’s about a unbiased comparison and assessment. Which will generate trust and a following... I will wait for UNBOX THERAPY or an equivalent to do a review to get a more authentic feel for the speaker. I leave this comment Disappointed.
