@@conservativecounselor277 Which Kennedy and how is that even relevant here? When most politicians do not talk about the dangers of something and some do, then even if those who do, do that for their personal political gain, that doesn't change the fact that they're the only ones who do it in public. Also, each time people blame some politician for populism or whatever, I mean, c'mon, do you seriously believe that it is more beneficial for a politician to go against the current? Do you really believe that those politicians whose voting patterns align exactly with what the various lobbying groups want, are the very politicians who are just so pure at hearts and want our best?

I lost a child to illness and three different therapists recommended I go on antidepressants. A psychiatrist with a medical degree will prescribe medication for virtually any complaint. That's what they do. I think medications work (sometimes) for people with schizophrenia or bipolar or other illnesses caused by organic nervous system imbalances. For other people who are simply having problems living in today's malevolent society meds become just another negative in their lives.

At the same time however, it should also be noted that the efficacy of talk therapy such as the ubiquitously and aggressively promoted CBT is highly exaggerated. Or at the very least the practitioners who certified themselves in this particular school aren't as professional as they like themselves to believe. In my case, each encounter with a CBT practitioner led to me feeling much worse than ever before. That is not to say that there aren't many people who are benefiting from it, all I'm saying it's not such a great panaceum as they make it to be.

We talk about “Mental Health” issues.
Many of us are in some way dealing with mental health issues and depression.
When our government is more concerned with killing innocent people than helping a single one of us, and we see ourselves living in the shadows and alleyways of the country, it goes without saying that the situation doesn’t actually help.
They raise your social security by twenty dollars.
Electric goes up twenty percent, housing goes up by two hundred dollars, and then you get a notice that your food assistance is going from four hundred dollars for your family, to forty bucks…
“Depression” becomes a multi faceted term of reference.
We are starting to see people starving themselves to feed their loved ones in America.

There's a lot to be depressed and anxious about, but the people it's benefiting don't want a change in the status quo, and they don't want people questioning our societal values. After 20 years on medication, ( which was never effective at anything except terrible side effects) I became radicalized by some particularly bad mental health care, I took myself off medications and never looked back. Pharmaceuticals are not the path. We need to find lives with purpose, build community and meaningful relationships, and stop tolerating psychopathic behavior from our so-called leaders.

People know themselves much better than anyone, including a mental health professional. As a person who has been in the mental health system for years, what I think would be a good model is: Unconditional income, guaranteed housing, and comprehensive Medicare for all, which includes mental health services that are outpatient and optional and that explore more progressive and new ideas in mental health therapies. Though I completely respect people's choice to try psychiatric medications, I think that forced drugging is absolutely evil and should be against the law. I respect the autonomy, dignity, and choice of people who struggle with mental/emotional health.

Many of the mental health problems stem from physical health problems. They are not caused by economic problems. Yes, economic problems can contributes to it by increasing our stress level. But the ways that we handle stress depends on our physical health. Many are suffering from mental health problems because of lack of nutrition, toxins exposure, horrible gut health and diet, high inflammation, kidney problems, bladder inflammation, brain inflammation. Its a health problem that cannot be fixed by medication or talking. And from someone that suffered from anxiety from mold exposure, its not something you can just let pass by because I used to have cry spell for hours sometimes even the whole day. I was abled to managed it by using herbs that lower stress and eating healthier or and drinking kale juices like there is no tomorrow.

    • @1LaOriental

They are economic problems! Lack of nutrition is an economic problem. Our system is about managing symptoms, not healing. We have very little education about proper diet, exercise, stress reduction, etc. No money in that. Drugs and surgery. Then more drugs. The capture of institutions like the American society of pediatrics and the American Diabetes Association is stunning. Look at who is sponsoring them. Follow The Money… They are fueling a lot of bad information. They say that obesity is not about a bad lifestyle. Instead they push drugs and surgery. And diabetes is pretty simple to reverse.
The problem? There is no money to be made from a healthy lifestyle.

I find it hypocritical to talk about mental health as if it were an unfortunate illness affecting a few when in reality we all know we live in a sick society where social structures and collective values undermine human health and sanity. These are unsustainable conditions for any human being. So as usual we give people drugs to treat the symptoms because we don’t want to look at the root cause. It’s the same with the physical health crisis, the surging crime, the homeless crisis. Those are all signs of a society in decay and bankruptcy but we all agree to pretend these are isolated problems to be resolved by short term means. We are collectively lying to ourselves and that’s the biggest mental health symptom of all.

2:20 Therapists cannot prescribe medication, so Amber must have made an appointment with a psychiatrist, whose primary job is not talk therapy. If she was seeking talk therapy, she should have made an appointment with a therapist, which it sounds like she thought she did but somehow ended up seeing a psychiatrist.
Furthermore, grief is a recognized condition that is distinct from clinical depression, and no therapist or psychiatrist worth their salt would confuse the two, which Amber claims they did.

Most people are good. In intention. Most people however support the system we live under which is based around destruction of rights, mass theft of income, and and international murderous terrorism. So in effect they lend their voice to many of the worst things in the world and become unwitting sponsors of evil in the actual actions they take.
And while we can't condemn the entirely of society, i think it is hugely important to understand that in action, most actually commit evil regularly by the the things they support, tolerate and participate in.
So in reality most people are not good people. Your dad, mom cousin and elder grandmother included. The fact you love then doesn't change that.
