I love your show. I am in the middle of helping my sister declutter her home. It is not large, a little over 1000 sq ft, but packed to the gills! You give me hope that eventually her home will be neat and tidy. It has taken a bit over a year to do her living room and kitchen. But then we are also washing the walls in every room. She is a stubborn Taurus that makes me leave if I am going too quickly to suit her😂. She is getting better as time passes. She is coming out of a depression after her husband died 2 years ago. She is now actually telling me "I don't need that" or "where did THAT come from? Throw it out". I am so proud of her progress, physically and emotionally!😊 I wish you could come to Michigan and help us😅

The only reason she could ruthlessly easily get rid of those shoes is because that was her second pass She realized she didn't really need them all or want them. If that was the first time that you had declutted her shoes it would have been a lot more difficult. She is getting good decluttering muscles She's the 🏆 champ.

It’s so hard when you’ve spent a lifetime collecting things you love, then you find you’re older and they no longer fit or are practical, so you’ve got to let them go. It’s hard.
It is. Honestly, the stuff you get rid of, you don't even remember in a few days. Of course, the really meaningful items should be kept. And after decluttering for a while you become much wiser about what the really meaningful stuff is.
My magic question now (forget where I heard it but it is GOLDEN!):
DOES THIS BELONG IN MY FUTURE?
I'm finally able to LET IT GOOOOOOO!!!
My favorite wall clock just died. It feels like a portent of my upcoming move. I'm taking a photo of it because I have a sentimental attachment to it, shopping in a vintage mall with my dad who is not long for this world, so with a photo that I can look at, I will donate it with a note it needs a new mechanism, and hopefully someone else will enjoy it. I don't have the time or wherewithal to do it myself. I'm looking at this as a sign from my angels to be ready and willing to step into my future!!!
I understand that, but if something isn't a part of your daily life, then checking in (inventory) should be done seasonally.

She has done a great job decluttering. When she gets to new apartment she can always see what fits and downsize more.
For the clothes it would be better to do another passage when she is in her new home and try all of them, to see if it still fits her style. Seeing this video made me realise i have not worn any skirt in more than five years...good job Carla
It’s good like Becky is doing: taking a new look at all her clothes and stored items. We forget about some things. We say: why do I have so many towels, so many sheets, so many shoes, etc. I certainly did that recently with my clothes drawers. I got rid of 50% in my drawers, maybe more, almost all my (unworn) socks. That that is thanks to Carla’s influence!!
Sometimes we store things in big containers hidden away as a way to get rid of them without actually tossing them….
Thank you Carla!! Your decluttering with friends series and your decluttering with your sister series has really been an eye-opener for me and bit by bit I’m doing a little corner here and a little corner there and getting rid of stuff.

Oh, Carla! How I wish you were here to help me downsize and declutter prior to my move to a senior building. I have my application in and hope my name reaches the top of the list in the next few months. I am starting to pack already so I won’t have so much to do at the last minute. I worry that I will have too much stuff. The apartment will be quite a downsize for me. I’ll just have to pretend you are here to guide me! 😊💕❤️

I moved countries many years ago and was posting boxes to a friend who held them until I got there. My method was , if there was a fire in my house and I had 5 mins to grab what I think is important. It worked as you think what papers do I need to keep safe, photos, art work, after that it is possessions that can be replaced easily.
Have you also looked at the swedish death clean youtubes, they ask the question "Do my children want this/ need this or deal with this stuff when I am gone." Anyway good luck.
U can do it! Remember how much easier your life will be in the new home with less stuff

Before I move, I donate my clothes and shred my papers. Then when I move into my new home, I relook through my clothes and donate more. Plus I shred more papers. I downsized with a lot of my belongings. My husband on the other hand is a hoarder. He refuses to donate any of his stuff and does not shred any of his papers.

Great job!! It is easier the get rid of stuff when moving. I've moved every seven to ten years during my 50 year marriage and I think that's why I don't have as much stuff as many older people.

She is still in for a shock. you have helped her realize that she needs to downsize to get to that goal of an incredible space. consider only using one closet as that is all Becky will have. Its very difficult but her new space is the reward.

Good job, Becky. Try on all those clothes once you are unpacking in your new place. Maybe more would go. You can have the sentimental VCR tapes digitized.
Becky is peeling off the layers of her old life, she is embracing the future. It seems she purged her clothes form high school. The sound in the video was very soft since there was so much damping effect from the fabric, nice. I admire how she was merciless with some knick knacks, newspaper articles. I had to go through some of my mom's scrap papers and recipe clippings. Myself I have a hard time going through my own but I try. A little bit at a time is easier for me. I got rid of some of my friends letters that had lost their meaning, they didn't evoke the same feelings, I had grown up. Way to go Becky! And Carla, your positive attitude is contagious, loved the music, good vibes.
I'm facing a future move out of this house where I've been for 30 years - this is inspiring....Many good wishes to you both! Thanks for the motivation - the shoes I so relate to - I have many things I can't wear anymore but just get lazy or to attached to my past self to get rid of.....time to call friends!
My husband and I did a similar move after 34 years to a house half the size of the old one. We decluttered for 2 years prior to the move and still had so much that we rented a storage unit for 5 months after the move for the excess. It's hard work, but the more you toss, the easier it gets and the more you want to toss. Promise yourself that you WON'T waste money on a storage unit for the "Maybe items." Those " maybes turn into donate. Best wishes for a happy new decluttered home.

Flat sheets make great curtains and they match your bed and they’re not hard to do get a rod cut a hole. He can stick it through Or buy those little curtain clips, you can even hem them tuck the extra in the back up. Top sheets are great for curtains! ✌🏻💞😊
In Central Florida, we use old blankets to cover up our tropical plants during winter freezes. I just keep those linens in the garage on a shelf.
The old stained one,if you have room, make great drop cloths, pile leave small limbs and sticks to drag away but not if you have to downsized! lol 🤣!

Doing something like this is good for us all. Sometimes we have clothes in our closet that we keep out of sentimental feelings. Maybe we wanted it at one time. When we are doing something like this, we can really pair down the unneeded items from those we really love. You two did a wonderful job.

With the shoes is exactly what happens if you come back to an already decluttered space. You are not overwhelmed anymore and can really decided if you need all of it or not. Good Job ❤
I like my flat sheets, especially in the summer when I don't use blankets.

That second clothes closet seemed like it keeps going forever. You kept pulling out more and more hanging clothes. Samson was so patient while you worked. What a great assistant.
It’s fun to see how the first instinct is “I need ALL of that box/bin/shelf”…. Then when you break it down item by item all of a sudden 30% of it can GO. The actual pure instinct of ….”I need all my stuff” is the obvious first reaction…and you NEED the individual item touch (plus some declutter mindset momentum) to actually see clearly and make progress happen.
When are we going to get some Carla & Samson content? I miss going with you on your Target trips. Lolol! However, this was Awesome and you are a true Godsend! 🤎💫😊

Carla, Becky can send the VHS’ in and have them transferred onto DVD’s because VHS’ can disintegrate. On DVD they are easier to store and last forever. We did this with our 33 year old daughters VHS’ 34 to be exact, we did ours through Costco, which used YES VIDEO. They gave 2 cds for each VHS. We have a copy to our daughter and we have a copy. The VHS’ took up a 66 quart tub and the 2 copies of DVD’s fit in 1 11”x11” sea grass basket. Fits in my office closet perfect. Hidden, pretty, and still have those memories.
Becky, you and Carla make a great team. Your new place will have a place for everything.

An additional bag for trash would be great. If something is torn or simply worn out donation places will have to throw the item out, too, and that is so much work for them.

I cannot throw some items, I send them anyway, they dont have any attachment and they throw it away without remorse.
It is more work and expense but they have some good stuff for free that they can sell. In the end it is even.
Hi Carla, perhaps recommend The Daily Connoisseur to your friend. I can't a ten (10)item total wardrobe. But I have the items down to three (3) sub-sets, active wear, work, and going out/Church weddings/parties as one. I also have the ten items for winter and summer (fall/spring is the same). Remind her that the backyard is worth the smaller closet. Best wishes!!!

I’m having to suddenly move apartments and I’m doing this now! Even though it’s very stressful, I’m almost glad I’ve been forced to move. I honestly think it’s the only reason I’ve managed to declutter.

I like to sew curtains or table runners, or dresser top covers with my flat sheets. Or when painting use as protectors for floor or furniture or cover outdoor furniture for the winter.

I've been doing a lot of decluttering lately. I have been finding life overwhelming lately and decluttering It has really been helping me to think more clearly and feel a bit less stressed. The more things we own the more things we have to clean, dry, tidy, store and organise. Plus check periodically for mould or other damage. Thanks for your videos Carla they're great.

Yay team no flat sheets! I just wash the duvet cover every week with the fitted sheet. So much easier to make the bed, and flat sheets just get tangled anyway. Since my dogs get on the duvet, I have to wash it every week. The whole point of a flat sheet is so you don't have to wash your comforter, blanket, or whatever the top layer is very often. I really appreciate when sheet manufacturers let you buy just the fitted sheet.
I am loving this series with Becky. I have 2 walk in closets that are exactly packed like Becky’s closet. I did a massive declutter on 1 closet and donated 8 bags of clothes. I am so happy I watched this video first and said if Becky can do it, I can do it. Thank you for being such a great help and sharing your journey.
