32-29 is actually the danger zone for road temperatures. At 28 the ice forms crystals on top and gives a better (not dry road but better) grip with the tires. At 33 degrees you’re close to the freezing point but generally it’s spray back from the tires still.

That is the reason to switch from all-season tires, to the new 'ALL-WEATHER' tires the next time you need a new set of tires. They are halfway between all-season and winter tires, but you can leave them on all year, even in the hotest of weather.

They should have been better prepared and OFF the streets by now.. That's what common sense would tell you. Ms. Ellison, this doesn't happen very often. My mother-in-law lives about 30 mins. outside of Charlotte and she says they do get mild storms - 1 to 3 inches here and there or a little ice that stops traffic for a day. Storms like this maybe 1 in 5 years or so. The fact that there is another storm coming this next weekend is a double whammy and something not often seen. The snow/ice doesn't stick around. Usually the temp warms up and melts whatever is dropped within a day or so. Good luck with wherever you choose to make your new home.

This storm in particular hit many areas in the south that have VERY little snow removal equipment or salt/sand/crushed rock. Georgia gets some very light snow, nothing like this storm. It doesn’t have to be looking at a phone to cause a chain reaction of bad juju either- a split second look down for a drink or change the radio station has the same results.
