    Severe Winter Snow Storm in Toronto Blizzard Create Mess - Cars Stuck in Snow and Blocked Highways. Winter Snow Storm in Toronto Canada. The City of Toronto has declared what it calls a "major snowstorm condition" to ensure its crews can remove the snow on city streets left by a winter storm on Monday. Downtown Toronto had received 36 cm of snow by 2 p.m. on Monday, according to a summary from the Ontario Storm Prediction Centre. Ottawa, meanwhile, received 45 centimetres of snow. They were just shoveling to a few metres until less congested lane they can get to. I had close calls on this day, but I really appreciated my new Mazda C30. It did its job. If I had my old car - Kia Rio - as I did six weeks prior, oh, Lord have mercy.

    I immigrated to Canada for 4 years in the 1970s after serving during that Vietnam thing. Worked 3 winters in the bush doing seismic (oil exploration) work in far north Saskatchewan and Alberta. Really a beautiful country Canada is with a LOT of wide open country. But you've got to be tough enough to handle those winters. Experienced more than a few "white-outs". Met some good folks up north there..

      I was 18 when my parents decided to immigrate to Toronto, Canada in 1990. I have seen a few really bad winters in the last 32 years but I gotta be honest it is not as bad as some folks think. Yes there are days where you cannot leave your house but then we always have clear blue skies and sunny days in winter. I love the Winter season and cannot imagine living anywhere else in the world. Canada is truly the best country in world.

    So, boys and girls. What have we learned? Hmmm?
    1. Stay home if you can 2. Put damn f...king snow tires on your car 3. Put a shovel in the trunk

Plus , I believe they give you one free pair of snow shoes once you pay your tuition fees. Wish I was tall though tbh because they always put the food food on the higher shelves ( which I have to ask a tall person like yourself to reach for me ) and I appreciate that..But , they always seem to put the pet food on the middle shelves ( which I can reach) and I don't have a pet. We had a Great Dane when I was younger I was able to ride him like a horse until I was about 17 when he died . Well I hope you get rid of the snow soon so it's easy for you to walk in ..👌🤜🤛

      Toronto is so used to mild winters and little snow, paved flat roads with everything conveniently located they are easily led into false dependent reality. As soon as I left I quickly moved into prepping for everything and stayed with that perspective. Down side is that I have to take my garbage to the dump pick up mail at post office. Upside is going to the dump and PO catching up with neighbors and local news. Whole other reality of more self responsibility.

      I'm in Missouri USA; be careful shoveling. Some winters ago, I had a strong neighbor who went outside to shovel his parking area. I could see him from my patio door. After awhile of shoveling, he opened his car door and sat in the driver's seat. He never got up.
      Slumped a bit, and died right there.

      Yup. Same in Vancouver area when we got smoked. It's like we sold all our plows. The few I saw where early 2000's dump trucks with plows fixed. Not the purpose built yellow big trucks with the giant curved plow with a salt/sand spreader on the back. On the main runs as the snow starts so they are all clear consistently to move around to other areas.. In the end most of the removal was done with normal heavy machines. Graters and front end loaders.

    • @HipsterFromMars
      @HipsterFromMars Před 2 lety +9

      What happened was climate change happened. And for over the past decade Toronto hasn’t experienced this type of snowfall. No point in funding a huge snow plow organization for 1 day every 10+ years now. Back in the days these snowfalls were more common, which would make sense to invest into a lot of plows, but not anymore. But agree to disagree, we should have been at least a little prepared.

      governments in most western nations have been focusing more and more on ideas and ideology rather than practical matters. I'm only 47 but when I was a kid their focus was on major infrastructure. This day in age the focus is on woke identity politics. There are only so may hours in the day and so much money to go around. A science teacher in grade 11 would often say to us "there is no such thing as a free lunch". An economics professor on day one of economics 101 said "economics is the study have how society allocated limited resources to unlimited needs and wants".
      I suspect also if you have some people out of work because they didn't vaxx or they have to isolate for positive test it can have a huge impact even if it is only a few out of action or off sick or at home. We run things at the bare bones now (to be economically efficient), I used to experience this at a job I had 10 years ago. If one guy called in sick we were stretched to near breaking point. They had barely enough people working a shift to cope, designed that way to be "economical". As I said I'm only 47 and I've seen a huge change in the workplace in my life.
      Oh well...

    • @neilwhitaker6284

      @@HipsterFromMars I'd say the focus and attention on things like global warming (which they've been threatening us with since the late 80s believe me) rather than on practical matters is why we are where we are at.

      Ontario needs to make them mandatory during winter like in Quebec. It's a joke how it isn't. Every major snowstorm I see cars that are struggling for traction, or get stuck all together. One look at the tread pattern and they're all seasons always. Meanwhile me and other cars with winters are just flying right by all season idiots with all the confidence in the world
