I learned more about deer behavior passing bucks than I have shooting bucks.
Just another day in the woods for Warb. Spot sign, and deer, most people would miss, walk/scout over 8 miles, pass up a big 8...love it

I feel you, once you feel like you have all the meat you need, you definitely become super selective. I think it was a great call. Maybe the deer grows another year or maybe someone else gets a chance at him. Great call.

Ever since y'all said something about blue jays going crazy when deer come through last year or the year before that I have paid really close attention to those while I'm out in the woods scouting. Great advice on blue jays! Awesome video! It's hard to let a mature buck walk by being a 10 yds. I don't know how you did it.
Wow, without any kind of video or pics to show a bigger buck in the area I would have given that buck a dirt nap. From the mess-filled car during hunting season to the "C'mon ol girl" this is so relatable.
Aaron is definitely passionate and persistent, even more so than that cough. Many of us would just stay in bed instead, but you can't see em usually or kill them from the couch. Someone must be using Aaron's truck or something happened to it if he fired up the Smurf which did fire up reliably.
I bet Gooch was wishing the roles were reversed when that buck came out, but I know it is Iowa and not West Virginia or some of these other states that don't have as many bigger mature bucks. Plus like Warb said he has practically a whole freezer of elk meat so he can be more selective with his shot and Iowa tag. I know most of the time he shoots bucks like that since the THP crew really isn't all about score. Thanks for sharing another exciting adventure into the public lands of the USA.

I'm in the same boat Aaron.. got my archery bull elk here in CO, plenty of meat in the freezer... passed on a couple decent bucks in Missouri early Oct.. but you are right, its not as fun! I'll be back in Missouri first week of November to try and stroke a good one.
I understand being picky since you have meat in the freezer, BUT that was a nice buck!

Brother i really enjoy yalls videos. Ive learned a lot by watching yalls videos thats help me with my hunting. Ive killed a lot of deer 🦌 just listening to the sqiurrals bark they will tell on a deer bobcat or coyote. I pay attention to blue Jay's and sqiurrals there very helpful.

Could y’all explain a little better about the blue jays? When we are sitting in thats tree, and hear blue jays, what should that tell us? Are they trying to get the deer to come to them? Away from them?

“When jays are squawking, something is walking.” Ole hunting saying and it is the truth. Not always a deer but good chance.
They are annoying little sh-ts and squawk at anything walking through the woods
Practice while your in the stand. Make sure you can move your bow around and stand up without clanking metal or anything Brushing to make noise. Then, Once you see a Buck, Remember to Breathe. Just relax and every time he looks away just breathe normal. Dont hold your breathe like ive seen some people do thinking that there holding still. In the long run limiting your breathing will only result in shaking and shaky shots.

Jays are just like barking dogs. In the warmer months, if you can get to where the jay is squawking, there is a good chance you’ll find a snake.

Man, you are crazy but to each his own.
I was in a similar situation this past sunday evening. Maybe a quarter of the way down on a ridge side I came across a scrape next to a fence line separating woods from a corn field., 20 or so more feet down another a scrape. Not much further from that last scrape was a worn trail that lead to that fence. I went maybe 30 yards from the trail and climbed a small oak just on the edge of the woods. The wind was perfect, blowing straight into the corn field. I had that trail in sight just to my left and could see it went horizontal with that ridgeline. I had acorns all around me. As soon as it got to dark in the woods to see I could hear walking and crunching. I could tell it was a deer but couldn't see it. I sat quietly for 10-15 minutes until it was gone and climbed down. I never spooked that deer but it went into that field at dark. I plan on scouting that ridge where I found the trail and see if I can get in closer for a better opportunity. I'm pretty certain it was a buck bc it was alone and moving around a little slower than what doe's I have seen and heard here in central ms. I could be wrong but hopefully it was a buck.
