  • This is the most unfortunate thing I have ever witnessed while fishing. The water is no joke, especially in the winter. We were fishing in buffalo bayou near Downtown Houston for white bass, and whatever else was around. I met up with WILD LIFE, what was a fun fishing trip turned into a nightmare

My aunt lives right by the Bayou before University of Houston college. Grew up there in the 80s as a kid. We use to go down there to look for dead bodies while throwing rocks and walking the tracks. Bodies are always being pulled from there, mostly homeless people. Couple of years ago two men were kayaking, one had a small cut on his leg splashed water into the wound paddling. He died three days later in the hospital of a some flesh eating disease. It spread through is body quickly. That was on the Channel 13 News .I would not eat anything out of that water.
P.s. that water is probably more dangerous than the Coronavirus you keep bringing up.

Soooo, as an anecdotal note...I grew up on a lake in Michigan. The ice had just broken up and I pushed a canoe off of the shore to fish. I dumped the canoe about 10-12' out (full submersion), the whole event lasted about 25 seconds. Here's what happened: 1. I did not involuntarily breath in water (keep reading) 2. Standing on the shore and getting over the shock I could not inhale...nothing, like getting the wind knocked out of you. Little by little I could catch short breaths (see #1). 3. My testicles raged with pain due to the water being so cold. It's like being kicked in the nuts then you immediately have to perform a life saving operation with no air and fully clothed. My skin was on fire. The farther out you are the bigger the problem this would become. I've never heard anybody mention a testicular problem regarding cold water but this was the most problematic part of my experience, breathing aside. The water temp would have been in the low 40s.

Spent a few years as a Recovery diver....... all they can do is start dragging the sonar. Sad.
Also, don't assume drowning victim will float in a current. Sometimes you find the body a mile down river in a 2kt current, sometimes it sinks right there. There is no way to tell.

You don't need pliers to take hook out of fish. I use a stick. I saw the gills bleeding which means the fish will die. The fish I use a stick on never die. I fish for bluegill. Here is how it works.
    1. I take a chop stick because the diameter of the chop stick is approx the same size as the gap between the barb and the shank of the hook.
    2. Slide the stick down the fishes throat past the hook (which is embedded in the fish).
    3. Pull the line tight along side of the stick and clamp it tight against the stick using your finger and thumb.
    4. Now with the fish hanging loose (you are holding the fishes weight up by the stick pinched to the line) spin the fish round and round.
5.The line will wrap around the stick as you turn the fish until it gets tight and the hook will wrap around the stick and slip out of the fish.
The fish will survive with no injury. I used to use pliers to catch bait fish but would loose up to 30% of my baits to death. Now I rarely loose a single fish. Jesus is coming soon but there is another coming who will claim to be the Christ. The world will believe him. Turn to Jesus before it is too late. He loves you and doesn't want you to be deceived or to go to hell. Repent of your sins and serve Him. Lord be with you.

On Jan. 23, a man police were chasing jumped into Greens Bayou. According to a tweet by Houston police, the incident began about 10:25 a.m. that day as a trespassing call. Police said the man was being pursued by officers from the Northeast Division when he jumped into the bayou near the East Freeway and Market Street. The dive team was called to the scene to search for the man, but he wasn't found until about 12 days later. His identity has not been revealed.

You laugh about Gators but when I was in my teens a few friends and I would fish around there literally right under/off the side of the same bridge, the park by there (opposite side down the bayou) has a nicer fishing platform...( Bigger fish too but less chances catch a nice one idk y) n e ways But more then a few times we seen Gators! We once caught a small one and then the bigger ones came! Another time it was a cloudy day as it was and as it was getting late by the time we were ready to leave (by sundown) I had a old flashlight in the tackle box (remember there wasn't smart phones back then lol) when I lit it up to make sure the trail where we came from was clear (had a strange feeling believe it or not IdK y) I swear there was a quite a few Gators eyes looking at us as we Where on those pillars that hold up the bridge (the boards that help stop boats/vessels from hitting the bridge hard) supposedly using it as a platform/seat to get close to the water as possible. To be where these guys are at at sundown the Gators could of easily cut us off. Anyways obviously we made it & There are/were various species of fish there believe it or not including gars & Gators! lol damn those were the days eh? 🤷🏽‍♂️ Any who Just thought I should share them fishing stories with y'all! Happy fishings n rip to the dumbass that died (no offense) as I wish his family well

I fish the local Jetty in Northern California ( Humboldt ) not SF. Lol.... anyways..... we were slaying Salmon off the Jetty and a boater noticed and came right into our casting range, occasionally there is a few rouge waves that sneaks up and can get you wet, but for a boat.... it can launch them onto the jetty. I yelled at them to get out of there but like typical boat owners they think they own the world. Sure as shit, 20 min later his boat got smashed into the rocks and dragged out, dude did not make it and I am not swimming to save someone when i myself don’t have any flotation device. Two other passengers made it but the Captain sank with his boat.
