  • Why I Still Fly the DJI FPV Drone in 2024
    The DJI FPV is arguably one of the best RTF (Ready to Fly) FPV drones you can buy on the market. It totally changed the game for beginners getting into the world of FPV when it came out in March 2021. It also was the birth of the DJI O3 video transmission, which to this day remains the best video transmission system out there for FPV drones with it's unmatched image quality, penetration and range. But it was subjected to a lot of hate from the FPV community upon release, with the main arguments being it didn't perform as well as a typical 5 inch freestyle quad.
    In this video, I take a look at how the DJI FPV is much better than you think, how you should properly mount an external action camera if you intend to, and how the DJI FPV compares to a typical 5 inch & 7 inch cinematic FPV Drone.
    I have used the DJI FPV since release, on commercial shoots, flying for fun and full sending all around my country capturing hundreds of GB of cinematic footage. Even as a seasoned FPV pilot with several years of experience flying custom-built FPV Drones, I can say with confidence this drone is really good for what you get. It is a drone built for Cinematic FPV. The built-in camera can capture some pretty amazing footage if you give it the right lighting, and if we had access to the gyro data in the footage, like with the Avata, it would be incredible!

    I love Dji it’s all I fly, got 03 in all my quads. Prefer using V2 googles in summer, better air flow. Otherwise it’s G2’s oled screens, smaller form factor & better range than V2’s which I was surprised by as I have iflight crystal patch antenna with Omni stubby’s on top.

    I lost my Bob57 recently apparently it did not fly back home even with GPS and RTH setup so I was bummed, I believe DJI FPV can come handy for those long flights depending on range of course and smooth cinematic flying only since the factor of DJI RTH is way superior and knowing it will still come back like a Mavic, I hope to fly more of my DJI FPV again, even though it is a potato it still is solid until DJI releases their new iteration

    I've been flying dji fpv over one year, it was my first fpv drone and I'm really happy with it . But just couple days ago i bought "real" fpv drone bob57 and never go backt to it but still love it . Performance is great but "real" fpv drone you can setup for your preference and they fly much smoother . I know dji fpv has a lot of good futures which I'm missing but onec you try "real" fpv drone you will understand . Btw i dont say dji fpv is a bad drone i really love it like beginners drone . 🔥

    • @bentoogood
      @bentoogood  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Totally! I've been flying FPV for 4 years myself and compared to my custom builds, the performance is not quite there with the DJI FPV, but it certainly has a use case and you can get good results if you know how to fly it well and edit. Unmatched for beginners also in terms of ease of use 👌

  • @juliansjames
    @juliansjames Před 5 měsíci +1

    Couldn't agree more. Must get around to making a naked GoPro though. Out of interest, why have you used an XT30 rather than just directly connecting the wire with the JST? Is it just so that you can fly without a wire flailing about when you've not got the GoPro attached?

    • @bentoogood
      @bentoogood  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes, I used an xt30 so I could easily remove the gopro and use on other quads. It's also pretty thick and with the length of it, I don't need to worry about it flapping about mid flight

  • @GenevaConventionViolator

    Just get a 5 inch with DJI o3! if you want long flight times then put a li-ion battery on it! I had the DJI FPV for a month and it was very annoying. It felt like it could do nothing good, I tried cinematic, long range, and freestyle, and any drone that I have (specifically a nazgul evoque) could literally do any one of these better (yes, even long range). The only really nice thing on this drone is the position hold (for taking off from much harder/smaller locations and landing back) and the brake button (best feutre). The brake button has saved me a few times when I clipped a tree branch or similar. What is the thing I HATE the most about the drone (and why I got rid of it) is the durability. I didn't belive everyone with the "durability" problem because I had the arm bracers on and it survived a small 10 foot fall onto grass once, as well as a few rough landings. However one time I touched a SMALL TREE BRANCH (the only reason I didn't plummet out of the sky was the arm bracers keeping the motor in place, I later realized). I finished my flight and after landing, noticed the fact that THE FRONT RIGHT MOTOR WAS NOT ATTACHED TO THE ARM. This is when I decided to sell this flying potato. After I repair it will be listed on ebay for anybody who wants.

    I'd like to buy a drone for fun and not for video recording. Since the FPV weighs more and is overall stronger, I think it is better for flying outdoors than, for example, an avata2. But another really important aspect for me would be what you see through the goggles in real-time. Is it significantly better in avata? If not, I'd buy FPV even in 2024.

    But can you still dive with lithium ion batteries?? Is there enough power to pull up from a vertical dive with the lithium ion battery?

    • @bentoogood
      @bentoogood  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes absolutely. It's all about what cells you use and motors on your quad. For example, the Xnova 2806.5 1300kv motors pull 33amps at 100% throttle, and a 6S Molicel P42B 4500mah li-ion pack is rated for 45A. So it's impossible for me to pull enough amps to destroy the battery using those motors. I have a number of 7 inch quads running these motors. But it's all about measuring your quad and how many amps it pulls when you do the likes of a dive. I'd bet you'd not pull any more than 25-30a

    the problem with dji fpv is that it is not modular and you can't change parts on it when you crash and break something. you need to be extra careful with it unlike regular fpv where you are going to push and break it so that it becomes a learning curve. with dji you can't do that. speed wise diy fpv is going to smoke the dji fpv.

    I am using it since 2021 and I LOVE it since then. The OSD of the Avata seems better and also the Sharing of the OSD onto a Smart Phone is missing on the DJI FPV. But for sure it is stronger, faster, wind resistant and can cruise bigger terrains much quicker than the Avata. I checked the Avata but will stay on my DJI FPV.
