If I can Dream live is an anthem, so many others, this is one of my least favourite Elvis performances.
He was shy, I came into his confidence w the 68 comeback❤ I'm from Memphis
Still my favorite Elvis song! ❤
I was a neighbor of Billy Ray Presley when I was a little girl. Elvis would often ride his motorcycle down from Memphis to visit his family. When I saw him pull into Mr. Billy Ray's driveway, I would run over begging for a ride. Elvis would scoop me up and head to my house to ask my mother if he could take me riding. My mother disliked motorcycles and I can still hear Elvis saying Mrs. Iris, I'll protect her with my life but I can't tell her no. At 4-5 years old I only knew he was a sweet guy that also took me for rides and bought me ice cream. When I visit Tupelo today you can still see Presley cousins walking downtown. The Presley genes are strong and some bear an uncanny likeness to Elvis. It freaks out Elvis fans visiting the town and his birthplace and museum. I still have a beautiful sapphire necklace Elvis gave me for my 6th birthday.
How wonderful for you.
Awesome story, thanks for sharing!
I wish this was my beautiful memory!☀️💚
things that never happened
@@christopherone1 Oh an expert! Right! I'm sure you know everything that everyone has ever experienced and you believe if you haven't experienced it no one else ever could.
One of the reasons people liked Elvis so much was his sense of humor and silliness and playfulness. He could easily laugh at himself, especially when he screwed up. Yes, he had an attractive overall confidence but also a sense of humility that people found very appealing. You never felt that Elvis looked down on other people or saw himself as being more important than anyone else. He had a sweet soul. I still miss him, though I never met him.
Yes such a sweet soul!💖🙏
No one can overshadow Elvis. No-one.
This might be the first ever MTV Unplugged ...just without the MTV.
Elvis was the man, and still is to this day.
You are correct this was he very first unplugged before it was considered cool to do unplugged performances. Elvis was always ahead of his time!
It was the grand dad of 'Unplugged'.
Elvis 'screwing' up was part of his performance.
Elvis Unplugged...he's in his element.
The black leather, the voice, those eyes, and charisma to spare! Wow
Absolutely ❤
This shows how Elvis was a big kid at heart. Always laughing and joking.
The ORIGINAL UNPLUGGED! A true trendsetter. He set the standard.
I thank God I have been alive when this man was on the planet. Elvis for EVER ❤️❤️❤️
My feelings exactly and I was blessed to see Elvis live in concert 6 times, each time was magic.
Amen.
Elvis was absolutely amazing.
Best entertainer I have ever seen to this day. He was the most handsome singer ever.
This shows his charisma.
After the years of Hollywood trying to package Elvis as the "boy next door" type, Elvis was ready to get back to his kind of music and his kind of style. Elvis was the originator of the full leather suit - to show that he was still the badass rebel. And the stories about this show is that there were two identical suits, as they did back to back shows for two audiences, and in between shows they had to peel Elvis out of the first suit because he sweat so much under the lights that the leather stuck to him. When he first comes in and sits down you can see that he has a low v-cut shirt on under the jacket to try and mitigate the sticking. Other than on a movie soundstage, this was the first performance for a live audience that Elvis had done in 9 years. Elvis was so nervous about it that he almost didn't go on. But he and the guys were in his dressing room just playing around when the show's producer heard them and thought Elvis would be more comfortable doing the same kind of thing onstage to open the show. Once he got past the first few bars, the rest was magic. Yeah, there were mistakes here and there, but like you said, Elvis smiled and made a joke out of it and just kept on going. He also did a fair amount of ad-libbing, and they just went with it.
He’s the handsomest ‘thang’ I ever did see. Oh my Lord in Heaven.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He was performing to small audiences one after another hence the crack about 15mins. This comeback special was pure magic there was also a conplete concert with historic numbers. Remember the impact of this 68 comeback special we had been waiting so long.
If you watch "One Night With You" from the same concert, you'll see Elvis at his best, even when someone accidently pulls the plug on his guitar. He is a professional and sings right over it.
❤❤❤my favorite song ever❤❤😢
That is my absolute favorite song of the show!
the reason why Elvis was king was because he had it all
He had :
the raw talent
the humor
the style
the kindness and compassion
the confidence
He is still the KING, the measuring stick for all to be judged against
Loved Elvis since 1957 when I was 10. Seen so many others but nobody comes close
Elvis forever
Great performance!
Elvis hadn't been on a stage singing for the public for 9 years. He was doing a series of movies his manager had roped him into. He was so nervous to do this TV special that he almost chickened out. He said, "They won't remember me, and they'll laugh". this scene is when Steve Binder the director of this whole special went to Elvis dressing room and Elvis was so nervous he told Steve he couldn't do it. Steve said, "Elvis you have to do this, just go out there and do something, even if you just talk to them." So as you can tell in his voice and actions he does not want to be there, but of course when he sees the reaction and starts to continue he gets into it. I want to thank you for your opening words. Just as Elvis is so famous, there have been so many people that tell lies and condemn him. your words were special, being a fan since 1956 and now 80, I appreciate your remarks. All I know is he was one of the most generous humanitarians who ever lived. He gave away almost as much as he made. He loved his fans, and he loved all people. Thanks and be Blessed. I subbed. PS, See "Elvis Presley King of Kindness".
I'm 72 n have listened to Elvis since 1956 n yes im old but Elvis music keeps me young. The leather suit was made of Real leather. Today they are not made from real leather. ELVIS had his guys help to pull the pants up as sweat n real leather don't work well together. I never met Elvis but was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died n he told me many great stories about Elvis. I only got to 1 concert 1973 Aloha concert that was broadcasted around the world and seen by 1.5 Billion people. I sat in 3rd row center n couldn't take my eyes off of him. I was à crazy fan n even jumped up on my seat n thru him a kiss n he winked at me.❤❤ Love your videos n keep them coming
This crowd would've let Elvis do anything... and I mean a-ny-thing... 😎
Elvis is so special, even extraterrestrial's from other star systems know this.
YES! Love this comment!!!
😂😂..funny but true
🛸
He was the Prince from another planet❤❤❤❤
Elvis was superhuman.
Edited to add, his performance of "Trying to Get to You" during the '68 special is one of the most electrifying you'll ever experience.
It’s more like a live jam session lol I love the mistakes, makes him real!! 😊
Black leather Elvis is my fav! Definitely in his prime years!
42 years old...gorgeous
Fact: You just can’t beat black leather Elvis.🤷🏻♂️
Boomer here and Elvis fanatic for 65 years. I watched this comeback special live in 1968 and he was the greatest performer of all time ❤!! I went to 3 concerts of his in Louisville KY, the last one in 77 right before he died 💔. He will always be the king 🤴. Thankyou so much for showing this. 👏
ELVIS, that name says it all.
Greatness.
I am from Brazil, I love this guy since I was 13. Now I am 60❤❤❤
This is my absolute favorite version of Heartbreak Hotel!! He hadn't been in front of live audience in 8 yrs. He was doing movies. This was his comeback and he was so nervous, he almost didn't go out on stage. However, he looked gorgeous and his sense of humor is the best!! I do love and appreciate your beautiful remarks in the beginning. You're so right and much respect for doing your research. ❤ TCB ⚡👑🌹
Gorgeous like no other....❤❤❤❤❤
Elvis was so gorgeous, it didn't matter .He was amazing
I’m not gay…but yeah, Elvis was amazing.
Elvis was a very humble man and never saw himself as a superstar he always said he was just an entertainer and was loved making people happy what an amazing man with a heart of gold he never stole any other artists songs he always had permission to sing the songs so, people need to stop with that rumour his voice is absolutely amazing even my sons love elvis more and more of the younger generations are liking elvis he is still very sadly missed to this day and still very much loved 💖
The leather suit was started with Elvis. The next notable aperance to me would be the red leather suit Eddie Murphy wore in his first huge special. He was a huge Elvis fan and wore it as a nod to the King. When Elvis came out at the beginning of this video, it was pretty much his first public performance in over 10 years. He was a bit nervous and almost didn't come out. It was after the hight of the Beatles in 68 and he was afraid he had become irrelevant. This legendary special proved that wrong. You should check out the documentary Reinventing Elvis: The 68 comeback special.
Actually Elvis got the idea for the leather suit from Jim Morrison of the Doors. But he definitely made it his own!😊
Apart from his wonderful talent, I'm always taken aback by how incredibly handsome he was,
Started listening in 1955 riding in a car with my grandmother 55 Buick Roadmaster she looked over at me and said Ronnie have you ever heard this guy named Elvis Presley that was it for me never quit listening
Elvis Presley was a comedian just as much a singer and an actor !!!
Videos can't compare to the pure magic of seeing Elvis live in concert, he absolutely electrified the place and took my breath away. I was blessed to see him perform 6 times. My brother who saw every rock band of the 60's and 70's as a young photographer said that Elvis to his surprise was hands down the best performer he'd ever seen and stayed on stage longer than the others.
Elvis loved to joke around!! This was him at his best at his 68 comeback, he was 33❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So blessed to have gotten to go to his concerts, There will never be any other entertainer like Elvis, Elvis always ❤️
A long time ago I read by someone esteemed enough to know that Elvis had the charisma of a thousand John Lennons. A very powerful aura, if you will.
Guitarist to his left, Scotty Moore is a legend also.
This is Elvis at his best! Everything in the ‘68 come back special is fantastic!
Elvis was playing for the cameras....this was his big "comeback" tv special. He was great on film. His joy performing was infectious...as was his smile. If you have seen the series "Daisy Jones and the Fifth", his granddaughter plays the lead role and they have the same smile. It's on the verge of distracting...lol.
The “black leather” Elvis is my favorite. Humble, sexy as heck, and if you watch the entire show he sings the blues and gospel flawlessly. Not to mention his tribute to MLK ( a hero of mine).❤
You got it right my man! He owned it! Elvis was definitely the king!
… There are many good singers... but ELVIS is the „💎“ Diamond among them!! His charisma is still unsurpassed to this day!! … He is a Singer for eternity !! 🕺🏻🕯 Thank you
'68 Comeback Special. Elvis at his best, IMO.
I simply adore Elvis, no matter what he's wearing.
That's his growl....he's playing you!
My 82 yr old mom is now in a nursing home and wears a phone holder around her neck with Elvis on it... I can't tell you how many ppl just know her as the Elvis woman.. but Black and white both agree with her in that home.. they all love Elvis.
That leather suit!!! He had it ALL! ❤
The greatest act of all time.... Elvis.
The one and only ❤
Best singer ever.
I love his presence and his sense of humour ❤ Elvis was unique!
He was the one and only Elvis
Elvis grew up in the hood. He didnt have to steal anything from anyone.
@@lisal6121style of the day James Dean wasn’t the only one. There were greasers that looked just like this. But try harder
He grew up a very poor in the ghetto…. The hood was something that was coined 30 years later.
@@FUBAR1986 pointless comment. Do you have anything to contribute?
Elvis was born and grew up in a two-room sharecroppers house. It was a poor area of Tupelo but filled with honest hardworking people. The same is true of the area the Presleys moved to in Memphis when Elvis was thirteen.
@@lisal61211955 -- we wore jeans to play outside after school & on summer evenings . The brands were Lee's & Levis. See photos of Brando walking down a street in leather jacket & jeans & on motorcycle in leather jacket & jeans / see James Dean leather jacket & jeans. No leather pants. Oh, & the big "bike" of that day was the Harley. I was on one going 'round our neighborhood -- black leather jacket, jeans & the ever-famous motorcycle boots (Brando & Dean photos). There was even a '50's girl group who sang a song about the black leather jacket & motorcycle boots.
No one today can compare in voice, looks, stage presence
Billy Ray Cyrus could until his handlers started putting him through this humiliation ritual he's in. It seems as though they want to have a hillbilly version of the Kardashians.
Billy Ray cannot compare to Elvis in looks, voice, dance moves, charisma, charm, humility, stage presence. Elvis sings about 6 different genres. Billy Ray is good but nothing compared to Elvis
@@user-vy6nc7yq3z I love Elvis, too, just like everybody else. But to me, Billy was as fine as they come when he was young. Even better looking than George Strait -to me, I know not to everyone. Billy was sizzlin' hot! 🔥🔥🔥
NO ONE ANYDAY,he was THE ONE,his spiritual songs are god sent,he loved singing them,he had to sing them RIP ELVIS till the awakening
Nice reaction. Just a note, he didn't forget the lyrics, he was just horsing around which was the intent of this segment. They were filming the 68 comeback special what was a typical studio production setting. The "comeback" was alluding to his return to "real" performing after nearly a decade in Hollywood making movies. They planned this live session to mix in this performance with the studio production clips. While taping of this seqment was planned, I read in Elvis biography that they had originally thought to sell tickets for it, but the day of the filming the audience was raided from people waiting in the line at the NBC studio that day to get into game shows, as well as from a restaurant across the street. Another note, the guitar player to Elvis' left is Scott Moore who was Elvis's original guitar player, recruited from the first recordings at Sun Studios. Scotty was one of the innovators of the rockabilly guitar sound, taking influences from county, Chicago Blues, Jazz, etc. Along with others he’s responsible for the rock sound we know.
There has not been one celebrity that ever met Elvis that didn’t have great things to say about him.
Elvis said Roy Obison had the voice he'd ever heard. He never covered an Orbison songs out of respect for him. Orbison wanted Elvis to record Only the Lonely but went on to record his biggest hit.
For ever and always Elvis ❤❤❤
Elvis was a country boy from Tupelo, Mississippi who drove a delivery truck, sang in honky-tonks and he is "The King"!
Elvis did not sing in Honky Tonks - He Sang At Auditoriums all over the South from 53-56 His last was The Louisiana Hayride -- Elvis was too young for Honky Tonks His Momma & Daddy had to sign his contract for The Hayride
@@HeavenlyPresley-Tonya Fair enough, I was just painting a picture, meant no offense to his memory.
@@HeavenlyPresley-Tonya I was prolly thinking of JerryLee Lewis.
To me is the greatest artist ever ❤❤❤😘😘😘
God Bless You for keeping Elvis alive.
It’s nice to see Elvis having fun on stage🤟
Thank you for speaking the truth about Elvis. So many have no idea and talk nonsense about him. Talking of Elvis's style, he basically was a product of his environment. As for him forgetting the lyrics and him messing around, it is somehow more entertaining than just singing.
Agree. Elvis being down to earth human is another one of his endearing qualities that makes me live him even more.
Elvis.
Coolest dude in history.😊
Elvis would say Dean Martin was. Loved them Both!
@@nickrizzi4927 Dean Martin was definitely a cool dude, but Elvis was the King of Cool.😎
Oh my...at one time, he absolutely was the whole package. Good job on your research. He was loved and hated. A lot of his backstory included black churches and music. His voice still gets me😊😊
I like the quote at the very beginning. There’s a Judy Garland quote:
“Be yourself, everyone else is taken.”
Seen Elvis 3 times. He loved changing lyrics and then laughing. He was by far the greatest Entertainer I have ever seen. Bought my first album when I was eight. I’m 76 yo female and I still listen to him all the time.
Elvis Presley IS the standard
Hi Polo, This is Elvis at his best and healthiest. This concert was a bit of a loose arrangement but a lot of fun. The women were corralled off the street to makeup an audience. He was truly a great artist and yes you are correct, he had great respect for black people and for the black artist he knew and worked with. A tragic but lovely guy. There will only ever be 1 Elvis.
Cheers, Neil.
You forgot the part where invitations were to be sent out but Parker was unhappy about the black leather sessions and didn't send them out and that's why they had to round up people from the street. Parker wanted to make the entire show into a Bing Crosby type Christmas show. Can you imagine? Of course, that would still have been good listening, but without as much groove.
How is this Elvis at his Healthiest??? What happened to 1953 ON Til He got sick in 76 -
@@HeavenlyPresley-Tonya Most people do not understand how he suffered from childhood on. I couldn't agree more that he certainly looked at a physical peak
NOBODY IS MORE BEAUTIFUL! NOBODY!
He loved performing, and he purposely did things to make his fans laugh at least once during his performances.
I saw Elvis in Oklahoma City in 1955. He was 9th on a bill headed by Hank Snow. He was 19. I was 18. 9th or not the word was out, and he was who we came to see.
Wow. That must have been incredible. Seeing a miracle in the flesh, emerging.
@@Tassie85 1955 was probably my best musical year until '71 when I saw Led Zep, the Dead and the Airplane. I'd graduated high school in June, from a high school and junior college military academy, and we got the Louis Armstrong band for our graduation dance for $2000. They had an open date between Tulsa and Dallas, and we got the for half their usual fee. Elvis was great and so was Satchmo.
Lucky! I saw him in 1975. Voice great, he was a little fat, but we didn’t care. It was great!!
That made me tear up! You are so incredibly fortunate & so rare. That was the beginning of the miracle that was Elvis! God Bless You! 🙏💗😭👍😍
He would have been 20 in 1955 unless the show was between January 1st-7th
Elvis was the whole package.
The G.O.A.T hands down the greatest to ever do it king had it all in buckets shame his management let him down so much and he had to lose this world way to soon u cant name a artist who had as much impact on music to this day inspires artist the world lost a icon that will never be replaced
He is natural,, he like whàt he do he is greatf
This song i ever heard of Elvis. I was in jr. High school. I had 550 pictures of him on my wall. All kinds mostly cut out of magazines. I had a few nice framed pictures. One life size on my door.❤❤❤❤❤
Im 81 now and still love Elvis
Elvis fue y sigue siendo el mejor !
Elvis is the OG. He had the girls, cars, jewelry, Memphis mafia posse.
And Elvis would be it all in a package wrapped up with a big bow
Thank you for reacting to Elvis. He was the first with a full leather suit and jump suits.
ELVIS grew up loving music 🎼🎶🎵
"It's great when you do your own research"
I couldn't agree more, although others, as regards a particular area, and a particular time, would have you believe otherwise . . .
He understood music and human nature. He was a master at entertainment and uplifting others. His looks, talent and this understanding were a deadly combination. Vicki
Elvis was one of a kind..
The greatest ever!
Thank you for this video...
❤️&🙏
I remember the first full leather I saw was Marlon Brando in his early movies. This was his comeback special for Elvis, and I understand that he was nervous and excited to appear in front of a live audience again.
King then, now, and forever! The greatest of all time.💙🎶🎶🎶🎶
We grew up with this concert and Elvis' music.
Ya, and it was on regular tv. I remember those days and we even had Ali boxing matches and there was no pay per view.
Oh my gosh! Just that voice, pure Gold, and the looks? And he can blow it out the park! The KING!
I had this on dvd!! It’s an epic show. 68 Comeback Special. ❣️❣️
Elvis was the first to come out with the leather ❤ thank you ❤
This was his TV special from 1968 and his first performance in front of a live audience for 7 years. He was as nervous as heck and nearly didn't come out but as soon as he started he began to enjoy himself. Heartbreak Hotel was his first gold record in 1956. There were two sit down and two standing up performances in the leather suit and they've gone down in history (as has the whole TV comeback special). As you said he is a megastar to this day because he did have it all and sang many different types of song equally well. Elvis forever ❤
🌿🪻🌿🪻🌿🪻🌿🪻🌿🪻🌿🪻🌿The 68 Comeback Special, was Elvis's first Preformance before a Live Audiance in 8 years. Since returning home from the Army, he had been under Contract to Hollywood making Movies during that time. Elvis was very nervous about the changes to music while he was sidelined by his Manager with Movie Contracts and he wondered if the fans would still be there for him. IMHO Elvis Used Humor and Goofing around with a song, to loosen up, shake out the nerves and reach out to his Audiance on a very Human Level. That was part of the Elvis Charm and we Loved him even more for it. ❤
Elvis doing "If I can Dream" is well worth the listen
Thanks for your reaction.
Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory.
Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off.
As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (czcams.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/video.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.
I love this performance! Elvis was an amazing performer! ❤️
Thank god for this men ❤❤best ever
Yes, the King then, now, and always.
