- When investigating the death of a chemical manufacturer, detective James Wong (Boris Karloff) uncovers an international spy ring! In the first of a popular movie franchise from Monogram Pictures, director William Nigh unfurls an intriguing mystery headlined by a cast that includes Grant Withers, Maxine Jennings, and Evelyn Brant. What's not to love when a movie includes a crafty detective, secret formulas, and poison gas?

There was hardly a role Boris Karloff could not play. He was magnificent, there is nobody equal to him in acting today.
I love the Mr Wong movies. Thanks for the the good print. Usually we are stuck with dark, blurry versions of these old classics.
Great upload!
Mr. Wong, Charlie Chan and Mr. Moto. The inscrutable asian detective years.
Thank you for Boris Karloff as Mr. Wong, loved that series
Thank you for posting a sharp, clear film. This Wong series is as much fun to see as the Mr. Moto series.
love these old films
Hey so. yes I love old movie. so nicely done..wong and Mr Moto. to Sherlock homes.🙏🎥
Enjoyed seeing Boris, thank you.
Boris was a true master of his craft.
Thank you very much for posting this, 1st of the mostly-Karloff Mr. Wong films save I believe for The Phantom of Chinatown with Keye Luke of Charlie Chan fame.
I love these movies 😊❤
😊❤
Karloff IS the BOMB!!!!
So, Dayton is a sharp businessman. But he just signs the agreement about inheritance of the business. He does not read it. He does not get his lawyer to look at it. He does not mention any compensation to family that would have been depending on his income. OK.
Wow!!!love it i didnt know he had done muder mystery. Sometimes i get tried of watching the show nice to see theres more of these
Share your secret on getting such a clear and non-noisy film!
Thanks for posting this interesting movie. I never thought I'd live to see the day where Boris Karloff playing Charlie Chan, (Sidney Toler). He did it quite well and I thought the plot was well developed. Two Caucasian men playing a Chinese investigator, go figure?
Very good.
He also did a short series called "Col. March".
Do you have high quality versions of The Fatal Hour and Doomed To Die as well?
WOW you got that right👏👏👏👏👏
I love these...Peter Lorrie played a japanese detective
Boris Karloff and Perry White!
2:12 Lascardi looks very like Al Pacino.
This is a movie not reality
All these comments are silly
You know what you can do with the relentless commercials. No movie is worth it.
I’d like to know if there is any relation between Grant Withers and Jane Withers. Maybe father daughter🤔
Why would he sign that document when he fears for his life, his beneficiary would be his wife or another family member, those two looked like wannabe gangsters.
It's like having teeth extracted, the acting is so painful. Amazing that in these films someone in an office could ring directly to a detective! Great movies to cure insomnia.
MY WIFE LOVES MR BIG WONG
Ha!
So strange that he doesn’t bother with a Chinese accent which would be the normal method as with Sidney Toler. Still a great movie.
Not so strange. His name is James Lee Wong. Either his mother was British or American, or he was the son or grandson of immigrants and would speak English fluently.
@@Jean-qn4fy Yes, I’ve since learned that in these movies Wong spent a lot of time in England which lets Karloff out of needing an accent. But, it’s really more than just the accent, if he’s an American, educated at Yale then there really is no point to there being a Mr. Wong, instead of a Mr. Jones or a Mr. Smith in this story. Karloff could have played it without the unrealistic makeup effect to his eyes and nothing would have been lost. The Chinese character of Charlie Chan and the Japanese character Mr. Moto uses those cultural characteristics but Wong was just Mr. Wrong.
@@austinevplab7167 Yes, the stories are good, but the character of Mr. Wong is often an annoyingly cartoonish. They did one with Keye Luke that felt much better. Oriental detectives were in vogue at that time. But audiences back then preferred westerners in the role.
@@Jean-qn4fy The Captain Street character annoyed me with his one dimensional character trait of yelling all his lines. Karloff was good and I did say at the outset that it’s still a great movie.
@@austinevplab7167 They could tone Street down a bit. But he is supposed to be the side kick and to offer some comic relief. The character that really grates on my nerves is the stereotypical "sassy girl reporter" that shows up in the later movies in the series. Oh, lordy, I want to bludgeon and drown that character!
Today there would be protests about not having an Asian star.
Nobody in a wheelchair either. No deaf mutes, either. Just a bunch of Homo sapiens. What an outrage. Where does one find a Safe Space in virtual space?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
