    Feyi-waboso, Morgan Morris , Lloyd , Definitely need to be in the training squad atleast for the 6 nation. Im hopeing we dont lose Feyi-waboso to England we cant let talent like him slip though our fingers.

      @@TheWelshSportsPodcast nice hopefully I'll see there. I'm Canadian actually my Welsh grandfather got me into rugby when I was a kid back in the the 80s and I've been a tad obsessed with it ever since haha. My wife's from the states and she a tad obsessed with rugby as well now lol. After Wales v Italy on the 17th in Cardiff we are go to the south of France for a couple months and watch as many Top 14 and Pro D2 games as we can. Should be fun.

    Just curious what your Wales 23 for the 6 Nations would be right now given all of the injuries and retirements and selection headaches. A few positions for me are nailed on and a few I have no idea who I'd pick 🤷‍♂

      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Cheers Jonathon 👌🏼
      Wow that’s quite a tough one. I think I would go with close to the WC starting team, probably
      G.Thomas
      Lake(c)
      Francis
      D.Jenkins
      W.Rowlands
      A.Mann (out there choice I know)
      Reffell
      Wainwright
      Davies
      Costelow
      Dyer
      Tompkins
      North
      Grady
      Zammit
      Domachowski
      Dee
      Aseratti
      Beard
      Faletau
      T.Williams
      I.Lloyd
      Feyi-Waboso (I would want to get him capped)
      Taking it for granted that Adams is still injured or he replaces Feyi-Waboso on the bench (taking it for granted that Feyi-Waboso is in the squad 😂)
      It could change depending on these European games and how much rugby Faletau has but that’s it right now I think 🤷🏻‍♂️What’s your thoughts?

    • @jonathoncollins6861
      @jonathoncollins6861 Před 5 měsíci +2

      That's very close to the team I had in my head given the injuries/suspensions/lack of game time or form.
      1 Thomas
      2 Lake (c)
      3 Francis
      4 Jenkins
      5 Rowlands
      6 ????? (got no problem at all with Mann or even look at Keddie/Botham/Macleod)
      7 Reffell
      8 Wainwright
      9 Davies
      10 Costelow
      11 Dyer/Adams (whoever is fit)
      12 Tompkins
      13 North
      14 Grady/Feyi-Waboso (if he's selected)
      15 Zammit
      16 ????? (take your pick of Dee, Roberts, Parry, Elias, whoever is fit/in form)
      17 Domachowski (or Carré if Gatland has got over the fitness thing or possibly Nicky Smith/Mathias)
      18 Assiratti (maybe Wainwright)
      19 Beard (Fender maybe worth a look)
      20 ????? (probably Faletau or any of the above or try a young guy)
      21 Williams
      22 Lloyd
      23 ????? (one of the wing options Adams, Grady, Feyi-Waboso)
      Would love to see people like Keiran Williams, Mackenzie Martin, Ben Thomas, Max Llewellyn, Teddy Williams, Morgan Morse, Harri Deaves, Dan Edwards, Joe Roberts, Aneurin Owen sprinkled in somewhere or at least in a larger training camp.
      I really don't know what to think of this whole Feyi-Waboso thing either so who knows where that will go.
      The only people I hope not to see are Owen Williams (who hasn't convinced me at 10 at all), Sheedy (who never convinced me full stop) or Basham (until he gets his head straight, cos right now he's a walking card/penalty machine)

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I agree with pretty much everything you said. I like your team. Slightly worrying there’s no stand out at 6. Unless Toby is match fit that Wainwright obvs goes there. Basham would have been my choice post WC but like you said he’s been terrible this year. Not sure what’s going on there. I guess the exciting bit is there’s lots of new young players with opportunities. The worrying thing is the lack of stand out candidates in some spots 1/3/6/10 ?

    • @jonathoncollins6861
      @jonathoncollins6861 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yeah 6 was the one position that completely stumped me, which I guess explains the Rhys Ruddock rumours!!! Toby solves the issues if hes fit but hes aging, injury prone and has no match fitness so who knows. Although some of the young back rowers coming through like Deaves, Mann, Martin, Morse, Morris etc along with Wainwright, Morgan, Reffell solve those issues long term.
      10 is hopefully solved long term with people like Costelow, Lloyd, Edwards, Reed etc
      The front 5 is always an issue. People like Fender, Jenkins, Tshiunza, Beard, Davies, Carter should be the second row choices for the next few years but props is not an area of strength at all. Beyond Carre, Francis, Thomas, Assirati, Domachowski, Brown (?), S Wainwright (?), Mathias (?) who is there even in the picture? Players like Tom Botha, Willgriff John, Wyn Jones, Samson Lee have either never had much chance or come and gone. I secretly had hopes for Joe Jones being a success as a TH prop whos played in France and England but not seen much of him at Scarlets

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah prop worries me. Outside of Asserati I’ve not really seen much that gets my that excited about any off them. I wouldn’t pick any front row from the scarlets. Their biggest issue if you ask me and Matthias and Harry O’Connor who Gatland gave both a change last year haven’t been great. I don’t think I’ve seen a game where Matthias has been tuck up and scum time tbh. I get he’s young but 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @jaynelouise1969
    @jaynelouise1969 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Gutted for Morgan Morris, don't know what else he has to do, really consistent player too,, it's worrying our lack of Fullback choices, be interesting to see if Gatland starts with Josh Adams there...we have to scrap this 25 cap rule, we haven't got the depth for it...

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah same. If he can’t get into this squad with all of the unavailable players I guess he’s never getting in. Obvs Gats sees something he doesn’t like with him.
      Yeah I agree about 15. No stand out candidate. I would go with Adams and out Grady on the wing. Also really like Can Winnet but he’s not gonna be available for the first couple of games apparently 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @williamdickerson8898
    @williamdickerson8898 Před 5 měsíci +2

    When people make predictions of future players coming into the team. They should also make predictions who should make way for them. Its much harder to do when you have to name who your going to drop.

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci

      Fair point. There’s a lot of players who will be out of the squad this year due to retiring leaving Wales for other leagues and injuries. That leaves a lot of vacant spots.
      I did touch on positions that needed filling in the video 🤷🏻‍♂️ and you can have up to 42 players in a 6N squad so most players will be missing out due to the above reasons

    • @williamdickerson8898
      @williamdickerson8898 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I think the only way welsh rugby can be competitive is to ditch the 25 cap rule. Let our best players go to England or France for big money in their prime. And experienced players a little passed their best bringing through the youth. It frees up a lot of money. Financially welsh teams cannot compete with English and French teams.

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah I completely agree with you mate. It’s something I’ve spoken about before on the channel. Not only do the other teams pay their big wages but they get to play at the high levels so there gaining new skills too(unless like a few who have gone to French D2) I couldn’t agree with you more
      You only need to look at the young players who’ve taken their chance this season to see that it can work. Although I think we have to be careful to not let the regions finish bottom on the league every year 😬

  • @samothemano
    @samothemano Před 5 měsíci +2

    I’ve been pretty down in the dumps about the lack of quality young guys coming through. But your insights give me hope! It’ll be an interesting squad selection for sure!
    I’m still holding hope that Cameron Hanekom will be named. But I highly doubt it.
    Feyi waboso is a MUST. We can’t leave him to mature for another year or so and let England get their foot in the door.
    I like the look of Joe Roberts at centre.
    Mason Grady hasn’t impressed me at centre yet. Is there room for him on the wing?…. I would say Rio dyer, Josh Adam’s, LRZ, Feyi Waboso are all potentially ahead of him.
    Fly half is the most interesting position for me. I imagine he will pick costelow and Owen Williams and maybe someone else. Neither have impressed IMO. I’m really hoping for a left-field, unexpected flyhalf in the squad announcement.

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi mate. Yeah I get it. The regions aren’t doing great really but there’s a lot of young players to be excited about playing at a high standard. As for Hanekom I think if it was happening we would have heard something by now but I dunno
      Yeah Feyi Waboso has to be involved just to get him capped if nothing else but I think Grady could be ahead of hun for a wing spot. The guys been on fire this year and Gats clearly likes him so I dunno
      You’re right though 10 is the issue. I think he will trust Costello (which would be my choice) but I think Sheedy and Lloyd will be in with a shout too. Owen Williams hasn’t played much or impressed this year either

  • @sionjames89
    @sionjames89 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Cheers Sion. Yeah that’s a really good shout actually I missed that one. He’s been really constant in his opportunities this year. Hopefully he continues to improve. There’s a few good young 2nd rows coming behind Rowlands and Beard
      Yeah you’re so right 😂

    The challenge for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso is that playing for Exeter, if he goes to Wales over England, he's going to have to move clubs to get selected consistently... Given his experience at Wasps, he's unlikely to change now that he's established himself at the club. However, he's really played very little rugby at that level yet...

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I take your point Sim but I have to disagree slightly. Look at LRZ. He’s been in Gloucester his whole international career and I would say he’s one one the first names on the team sheet now.
      I do agree he needs more experience but I think we should bring him in now and get him locked in to Wales then see how he progresses?

    • @TimMoss-uz5ps
      @TimMoss-uz5ps Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@TheWelshSportsPodcasthe will have to change clubs to get capped ( by wales )though ? That’s the point so unlikely to move after bad time with Wasps collapse

    • @sionjames89
      @sionjames89 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@TheWelshSportsPodcast yeah spot on. Daf Jenkins as well. I hate to say it but I think Exeter is a better option for their development than any of the regions. I'd even like to see someone like Wainwright go to Bristol as is being reported as I think his game will go up another level which it has the potential to

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  Před 5 měsíci

      @TimMoss no I think because he hasn’t been capped yet he’s available for selection. My understanding is that if your capped but under 25 caps and play for a region, if you then leave you can be selected for Wales but if you’re already outside of Wales before you’re capped you can get selected

    The way thing are, World Rugby will see an end to International Football. With people choosing their nationality or switching it from one country to another, what is the point in it. As it stands, the only country that can claim to have national team is South Africa. And if you take all the South Africans out of the Six Nations, you will have a South African B team… or possibly a veteran’s team.
