    I own a 110 from 1989 V marked new in box with leader sheath and all papers. There is even a little bag Flitz metal polish with it. I will clean it the way you did it and keep it unused in my Buck collection. The 110 is a great knife but i carry more than 30 years a German made Böker Optima as a EDC and it still works like it was new. I prefer the optima because you can switch blades in a second so you have always the right shape blade, a saw or gut opener with you. The Optima with some extra blades is the most versatile knife for hunting fishing and outdoor use. Tanks for showing👍Cheers!

    Got one recently. I didn't have the chance to clean it thoroughly as it was grape harvest season at our vineyard and I got the package on the last day. It was pretty nasty with gunk all over. I didn't like the fact that the brass was scratched and the polishing was sloppy. Anyway the blade is off center but I can live with it.
    PS. Any suggestions on how to soften the sheath? It's tight like it was made for 112... makes the edge touch metal.

    • @JohnnyJuke
      @JohnnyJuke  Před 10 měsíci +3

      I have a video on centering the 110. Work the sheath with your hands for a day or two, bending and squashing etc. Use a mink oil or saddle soap and work it in. Hope this helps.

    • @Thrael72008
      @Thrael72008 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @JohnnyJuke Thanks, I 'll check the video. I was thinking about castor oil at first but then I found saddle soap in horseriding gear stores. Never heard of it before tbh. The ingredients are common though.

    • @johnobannon2291
      @johnobannon2291 Před 10 měsíci +3

      Don't try to soften the sheath because it can change the shape. It's a 'friction fit'. You want the sheath to soften over time and mold itself to the knife. Break it in by wearing it.

    • @Thrael72008
      @Thrael72008 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @johnobannon2291 excuse my inexperience but like others, I too notice that the tight sheath pushes the blade edge against the lock. Should I just wait till it breaks in and disregard the edge touching the back?

    • @johnobannon2291
      @johnobannon2291 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@Thrael72008 You could work the sheath in a little with your hands as suggested above. I wouldn't use any chemicals though personally, but the heat from your hands will work well to open the leather up after 5 minutes or more. But also, there is a gap between where the edge of the blade rests when it's closed, and the inside of the lock where the blade could actually touch the lock. So there's some breathing room in there even if the sheath feels tight. But is it squeezing the knife so much that it's pushing in the lockback? If so then the sheath was probably just made a little smaller (it won't accidentally be a 112 sheath because then it wouldn't be long enough to close the snap on the sheath, 112s are a little shorter). If it's tight enough to compress the lockback, break in the inside a little bit with an old pocket knife first.
      Edit: After reading your original post again, you may just have a slightly bad production (Blade off center and such). Remember that 110s have a warranty and you could send it in for the production defects to be repaired for free. Their website certainly has the full details.

    I am a hunter. The Buc 110 Folding Hunter is at heart, a HUNTING knife. A 15 degree edge is much too thin for a hunting knife. I guess if you want to cut tomatoes in the kitchen, then it is ok. My 110 has a 20 degree edge. By the way, please clean up your Spyderco sharpening rods. They are gross.
