Hi
Isayama: **Draws Sasha being shot, draws Hanjie burning to dearth, and draws the whole world being massacred**
Also Isayama: **Gets embarrassed on drawing Mikasa kissing Eren**
The fact that he can draw a child's skull getting crushed to pieces by a Colossal titan but not a kiss, something he actually drew between two extras in season 1 says a lot.....
The ending was still ok till chap 139 but the additional pages made eren look like a fool if Paradis was gona be fucked they could have atleast saved eren they should have replaced the bird with real eren they could have added tha ymir saved him bcuz earlier she use to se his and Mikasa relation as her and kings but he is not that bad so before dying she could have saved her this is the only hope

Isayama achieved what Eren couldn’t, being ‘Free’
I mean Eren sacrificed his freedom so that his friends would be free
I think Eren is free, but I feel like it was only by death that he received this freedom. It’s symbolized by the bird, the bird obviously represents Eren, and since the beginning of the story freedom has always been represented by wings, or birds.

@@Life_isgr8 Yea, he achieved his freedom after dying, but when he was alive, he was anything but. I read this somewhere, the only thing Eren did that was of his own free will and what wasn't controlled by the founding titan was befriend Armin and love Mikasa, so that's why he holds them close to his heart. I think that's true.
I still didn't love the last arc, didn't really like the ending at all, but I still respect the hell out of Isayama and love the series as a whole. I still thank him for giving us such a great series. What a ride it was.

Nah, people are stupid enough to continue pointless waifu wars no matter what happens in the story
Tbf, it was made pretty clear who the father was. It’s just the delusional ppl who refuse to see their waifu ending up with a farm boy
@@panprachwaiwong6386
Nah, thinking that Eren is the father was a very logic choice. We've seen that Historia wanted to become pregnant with Eren's child and the final panel of the manga which Isayama has published years ago showed a person with long hair holding a baby and saying you are free which can very likely be seen as a hint to Eren having a child with Historia. I think it wasn't obvious at all that farmer-kun was the father.
@@Timme hmm. It was pretty clear to me when i read the manga that she decided to approach farmer-kun right after having a convo about her wanting to getting pregnant instead of fighting or running away like Eren suggested. We also see him with her in every stage of her pregnancy up until the birth of her child and ppl still think he’s not the father. Plot-wise, having a “who’s the father” drama also brings nothing to the table since Historia is the one with royal blood. Who the father is doesn’t really give anything to the plot as the baby would still have the royal blood, and it’s not like Titan power can be passed down by having a child. There’s no plot point in having that discussion at all when it was shown to us that she approached the farmer and lived with him while being pregnant, and him calling her “Historia” casually.
@@Timme i just read your comment again and when did Historia want to get pregnant with Eren? Sorry but i don’t think that ever happened… I read the Japanese version and Istg I saw nothing like that, but maybe people have different interpretations? Idk
It is really good to see that Isayama admits the flaws of the final chapter in the Eren and Armin talk. He's a good enough author to know when he makes a mistake.

@@bpeyton9295 I agree. Em shippers are saying Eren loved Mikasa all along but I really didn't see it.

@@ronakkhunti6782 aka "I only care about EM being canon and don't care about plot being garbage"
When it comes to storytelling, the journey is far more important than the destination. AOT expresses this in spades.
It'd be much worse if it ended happier than expected. Ever since season 1, aot has been killing of characters. It'd be weird that the one person that poses a great threat, killed countles of eldians, literally threatened the whole world, live a happy life and not pay the price.

War, war never changes…
What I liked the most was the realistic consequences of Wren's actions. A lot of people complained that in the end what he did was useless and shit, but realistically it's impossible for someone to bring eternal peace and even by doing that for such as 100 years it's really impressive. Not to mention that Eren never gave a fuck about other people except his friends.
But what about my family…my friends…..my village
The theme of "Violence breeds violence and we have to stop it" is overrated and keeps getting brought up.
The overlooked theme from aot was that the main principle that applies to both their and our world is that the strong eat the weak and it may seem cruel, but that's just how the ecosystem and world works. We naturally fight eachother. It's in our nature, and there's nothing we can do to stop that. No way to escape the forest.
I feel the same way as Foxen, there are things I like, and things I dislike about the ending, but overall I really enjoyed this series and I'm glad I still have the final part of the anime to look forward to, and after that, sadly no more AOT
Ayyy finaly ur bald ksi

How would she know?
He seems to be ok. He's always seeming to wish he could have portrayed messages a bit more clearly in his work. And also yeah it does seem like he over shot the content and made the series run a bit too long. I'm not mad about the ending, just think there was a bit too much left to the readers' imagination for it.
@Boga Destroyer dude... wut? how did you conclude to this post off of what I said?
It was good concept, but executed poorly
@Boga Destroyer I never made an excuse for the ending. there was a clear part in the vid in case you missed it that stated people got the wrong idea of what Armin was trying to say. And yes, Isayama does indeed have that problem which is why he had such a strong hand in with the anime studios and applauded them for making things clearer than he did at times. I don't get why you're seething so damn hard, but whatever.
@@kickbeez642 i agree with you
people are forgetting the best part of the ending that was falco getting a wwe takedown from gabi
What I hate isn't the ending, but the community's reaction to it.
Part of what we all loved about AOT was how nuanced and intricately woven it was. How the later revelations gave us more insight and significance to the events before. So why is it that the community is so quick to throw shit without even giving it the proper time and respect it deserves?
It's frustrating that even its own community won't treat manga as a respectable form of narrative literature. The 12 years of monthly serialization, and our journey with it was just us witnessing the conception of this story. Now it is finally out to the world in its fullest form, but without having experienced the full thing, "fans" are immediately trashing it. At least reserve your opinions about the series until you try the full experience of enjoying the narrative from start to finish, not on a monthly basis.
Just like how AOT didn't suddenly get good when a huge influx of people hyped it up with season 4, it also didn't suddenly get shit because of this influx of disappointed people with light lips. Give it some time and thought.
Worst part is they call eren a simp but want him to end up with historia and destroy the world for her
@@maadtee6281 *for his son
But don't worry they will say Historia isn't his trophy wife for Eren
The more I think about the ending in relation to the rest of the story after rereading the manga, the worst it gets.
Just because it referenced past events doesn't automatically mean that it gave it more significance. If anything it re-contextualized so many great moments for the worst and takes the nuance out some of its ambiguous decisions due to paths. (e.g. Eren's plan is undeniably the "best" since it was the only one guranteed to work taking into account his future vision)
By the way, despite the monthly publication, SnK has been widely praised before its last arc, so I don't see why that praise is "respectful", but this criticism isn't, since both don't take the full story in context.
For a serialization that is formatted to be read on a monthly basis I don't see why reading it in one sitting is a prerequisite to "truly enjoying" the series, though reading it in as a whole just highlights the disconnect between the focus in the story and the ending.
@@LeCatization really? For me, the more I think about the ending, the better it gets.
Eren's pathetic moment, actually, I really appreciated.
Believe it or not, I thought Eren loved Mikasa since chapter 50, or at least, was aware of her love for him.
With how drastic the ending was, and how much Eren really cried and was in pain, I could tell he really loved her, and suppressed that human desire till 138.
@@raawesome3851 I agree with you here, a lot of people missed the pain Eren felt, like he wasn't doing this cuz it was fun. He got kinda driven insane by ymir, the paths and the founder power so he held on to whatever he could keep ahold of. I really feel for him tbh, he got the shittiest end when he tried his best
Awh so he choked basically, had a great essay but fumbled on writing a strong conclusion and handed it in anyways, we all been there man.
I agree with the ending but , I do feel like the ending would be a bit more happier like Eren ending up with Mikasa and that was all a dream etc .
Just wanted Eren ending up with Mikasa in a good way with a happy ending .
But eren did end up with Mikasa in an alternative universe anyway this is not a happy ending story
No the ending doesn’t have to be happy. Expecting a happy ending in AOT is like expecting a million dollars to just show up at you door. The ending sucked bad, people didn’t want a happy ending we just wanted a good one that made sense.
Wdym this was the happiest ending you could find, Typical shonen
How does your ship not happening ruin the ending? That’s so dumb
Honestly Im glad they never ended up together. I would have loved to seen Mikasa moving on from Eren instead, weather that be by herself or with someone else it would have added more development for her character in my opinion!
i think the most i didnt like was historia… you build up this character to be this strong important force and main character and then drop her entirely after she became queen? just seemed like a waste considering how many chapters of focus were solely on her
agreed. she was sidelined after having such significance throughout the story and a lot of the arcs. Rlly wish she wouldve played a more vital role in the finale
I think the earlier parts of the story were peak fiction, sucks that we couldn't get a more satisfying ending but AOT is still one of the greatest stories in history imo
True
@EREN!!!!! Lol as if. AOT, as far as the anime has gone at least, is peak fiction, coming from someone who has read 100 plus novels in the 18th century - 2000s time frame and watched nearly 200 seasons of anime
I'm sure Isayama will address some questions later on in interviews and guidebooks. Still would've been great to have some answers.
My opinion on the ending hasn't really changed, still thought it was decent but could've done without the 8 pages.
We needed more pages, but not THOSE pages
I didn't expect to be happy with the ending because that's not what AOT has been. In my bf's words, "AOT is black metal, it's just punishing and never gives you what you want, but it's art that still needs to be appreciated." AOT isn't about making fans happy, it's about telling a gritty story about the human spirit, and leaving nothing out. I wish that some things had been different, but I still respect Isayama for not giving me exactly what I wanted because frankly, I'm sick of fans controlling the way writers create. We need to learn to step back and let artists *be* without interference and making us all happy. It's his story, not ours, we're just lucky to be let in on this incredible world he created and we need to learn to be happy with that.
clap clap, couldnt agree more with this sentiment, ive never expected much and truly thought the ending would end on a sad note, thats how the show is, so i was actually a bit diisappointed with the original ending and absolutely LOVE the new ending
That is a perfect description of AoT
Similar to gundam blood orphans it is so heartbreaking
I was disappointed when I got the happy ending in 139 then the 8 pages arrived... M
@@maadtee6281I felt a little disturbed after that ending.
I think this interview & final character book from Isayama provides a bit more clarity about the open ended interpretation of the end of Attack on Titan.
I did personally think it was naive to think that a genocide in which 80% of the world was massacred would somehow provide an enduring peace - or even if it was possible given the history of AOT up until that point. I think the destruction of Paradis was inevitable given how the rumbling failed - although it did seem to give some peace to our main characters for however long they lived - it just wasn't an everlasting one or one that extended to the generation after them.
Also have to question whether it was even worth the cost and how many people had to die to ensure a peace that seems like it only lasted a good 40-50 years - if that.
In regards to the Mikasa & Eren ending - I think Isayama's interview & the character book kind of confirms that Mikasa probably was never able to move on from Eren - which is pretty tragic. I wasn't initially sure after seeing her with what looked to be a husband/child. But then I found it very awkward that she still wore the scarf - not sure how healthy, loving or happy a relationship like that can be when you are wearing a memento of someone you wanted to be with and visiting his grave regularly - infront of your supposed (not confirmed) husband and child? Also wanting to be buried with that memento on your death and potentially buried around the area of the same person?
Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with not having closure or being able to move on from someone you loved. There are loads of people in that scenario right now. Marrying someone doesn't equal finding happiness and moving on. That's a very immature way at looking at happiness and relationships.
After this interview & character book - I'm now of the opinion that the man and child who are with Mikasa - probably aren't her husband or child - even though it looks very much like it. Reason being none of it logically adds up with her character and the information available. I also wondered where on earth is Armin - Mikasa wasn't the only person who loved Eren - and the story started with the three. Then it dawned on me - that the front cover of the new 139 chapter is Armin, Mikasa and Eren at the tree.
It made me think that the man with Mikasa at the tree probably has to be Armin. In which case I'm wondering who is the kid?
I actually thought the ending was decent - Isayama was never going to be able to fulfil everyone's expectations or execute an ending that was to everyone's taste. It's just not possible and rarely done right. The reason I liked the ending is because it was left open ended and to your personal interpretation.
Might be a kid she adopted from the orphanage?
The last time I was this early, Ymir was still bullying Christa.
Thank you for the video!

I personally liked the ending before the additional pages, not sure how to feel about it now. I don't want to let the ending ruin my experience with Attack On Titan. Even though everything after 131 was anti-climactic and less enjoyable than the rest, I still got 131 chapters of pure awesomeness I have never seen in any manga.
The anime will surely do things better, it has always outshined the manga and all the retcons that were needed have been changed to what they needed to be, so I believe I will have a great time when the last part comes out, but just like you, I just want to distance myself from it for now and then get back to it to see my favorite parts animated.
I still respect the ending now even if it’s changed with the additional pages and it didn’t ruin my attack on Titan experience, I think it’s fit able that everyone dies a sad death and the Titan curse is finally gone and I loved everything in the ending
I feel exactly the same
My opinion on the extra pages has drastically improved from viceral hatred to mixed, but overall positive feelings.
I take the most issue with Mikasas conclusion, as I feel he could have portrayed it better, and included Armins conclusion. Paradis getting destroyed, and the Titan powers having a chance to Return do have immense thematic impact, even if they don't go down easy for many.
The chapters went Downhill for me since chapter 136. After 131 it's still became very great imo.

This was great! Thanks! Yams is done.. he's been doing this for years and I get that. I loved the overall story it's still my number 1. I do think some of the confusion may be answered in the anime but we'll see! Can't wait to see how it will be animated
My last hope for AoT is that the final episodes will really knock my socks off with it's presentation. Looking back on S4 P1 at this point, I wish it could have been better. There were a lot of issues I excused because I saw it mostly as getting stuff out of the way to get to the really good part of the story. But now that the story has turned out not so good IMO, I'm hoping they go ALL OUT on the animation and soundtrack.
Out of everything you could've said you chose to speak facts
I definitely agree with you idk how thisis tge first time I found this type of opinion
What are those issues ? I assume it’s all related to art and cgi .. S4p1 was fantastic.
@@JohnnyBoy7267 yup, only animation and CGI were the problems.. (especially that Levi and beast titan fight). Else it did great storywise

After 100 years, that world bombed her grandchildren...
Want Mikasa to die with Eren
Idk know why, but I liked the extra pages. Imo it felt so much more conclusive even though it didn't go into details. At least now I know that Paradis didn't go into war with anyone until much later in the years
Thank you Foxes Anime for your hard work ❤️🌹
I just wish isayama would explain more and stop letting stuff vague. Open to interpretation is fine. But the whole ending chapter open to interpretation sucks. I respect the ending but i wish it would have been different.

I make my self happy believing maybe in a different reality isayama may have given aot a different ending maybe a Best one wish I was in that reality
Cool to see a Mega-Man shoutout. Also, I'm so glad Isayama admits to the inspiration from The Village -- I thought I was crazy when I got to the end of Season 3 and realized the massive amounts of similarities that movie shares with Paradis Island's overall setup (rulers using monsters to scare people into staying within an isolated community that is stuck in the past).
Finally he can rest😌
I believe that as Japan here in Italy many people have enjoyed the AoT ending. I see many CZcamsrs, streamers and friends of mine commenting either positively, or just mainly good considering that they valued the whole story and not just the ending. Maybe I would have preferred a bit more answers, but I did like the ending overall (mostly chapter 138) and I think I can still say AoT is my favourite manga series of all.
Its the people who joined the anime community during covid times mostly from america and england hate it. I don’t know why there’s weird logic
@@Aztro2 it's mainly American fans.

Great video as usual.. thanks a lot ❤
As for what I feel about the ending... I feel it was rushed.. but as conclusion to the story it's not bad actuallyready to go as far as saying it was fitting, but it was rushed and lacking context in a lot of the "controversial" topics..
Even tho I understand what Isayama was going for (or at least I think I do) the lack of answers really saddened me..
11:20 seeing Levi remember his comrades of the Survey Corps with Hange, Erwin, Miche, Nanaba, Gunther, Oulo, Moblit, Eld, and Petra made me tear up :')
Isayama's writing with Historia post timeskip was utter crap tbh, sidelined, mute, pregnant by a facess no name farmer and pretty much no relevance
👏🏻
He did her dirty
That just means you didn't understand the point why she got pregnant. It wouldn't matter the father of the baby as long as HISTORIA WOULD BE SAFEEE. She couldn't inherit the beast titan this way and eren was the one who told her.
@@anonime8180 bruh that has nothing to do with her being sidelined as a character. She could get pregnant by anyone and still have plot relevance but this girl is literally given zero line so dialogue in the present timeline. A character with that much development should not have been dropped as hard as she was post timeskip. I knew exactly why she got pregnant doesn't stop the plotine from being dumb and just a lazy way to essentially write out a character. There were so many interesting things he could've done with her character but he went the laziest route possible plus he literally added mystery to the dads identity for no reason. So many people thought the farmer was a red herring as it was portrayed like that so much. People also didn't want to belive that all she would do post timeskip is be pregnant and sit on a chair. We got soem stuff in flashbacks but all it was was flashbacks. Not everything post timeskip was bad but the way her character was handled was abysmal. I wish the pregnancy thing was scrapped altogether cuz Isayama clearly had no clue how to treat a pregnant character. Completely voiceless. She could've done so much as Queen. My post wasn't even about why she got pregnant anyway it was about her treatment as a character in general
@@ashmews5489 actually about the father identity it's not isayamas fault why the fandom misunderstood the panels, me personally never knew about it I actually understood chapter 130 very well, when one day I read a comment about eren being the father and I was like WTF, so I don't agree with you plus Historia is one of my favourite characters but that doesn't keep her from being a SIDE character.
Something I feel should be clarified about chapter 50 from Iseyama's perspective, at least my interpretation.
Iseyama in the moment did not want Eremika to kiss, but his team, as well as the producers, saw the romance in the scene, and were expecting them both to kiss. Iseyama knew that if he went as far as to make them kiss, he would have to modify their dynamic from his planned path, as you can't just brush by a Kiss during a life or death moment.
In hindsight, he thought he should have been braver, and work around the kiss, because it would have been what Mikasa ( his apparent primary character) would have wanted.
Lots of people are blowing that out of preportion, so I thought I'd just give my thoughts.
Big fan of your videos
Isayama went insane
I feel the whole distancing yourself from AoT thing. I feel the same way. Beyond the controversial ending, which my opinion on changes on a dime, I’m just not normally a fan of stories this dark. AoTis so great that it was a major exception, but I’d rather have my hopeful stories with dark aspects for better storytelling. I have a video I’m working on for it for my personal CZcams channel (Not this one), but after that I want to fully push it out of my mind.
Isayama's favourite chapter being "Bystander" makes so much sense for some reason.
He stands by and watches the world burn
One-shot epilogues probably could have been a great way to help out the supporting character fluff that Isayama was worried about back when the series was still in its prior pre-rewrites stages, but sadly I don’t think it’s feasible at this point.
They’d certainly sell, but 139 in particular negated any need for them imo. Most of those supporting characters already had their moments, however small. Still, if he’s interested further down the line, I’d very much like to see what he has to offer with regards to something like that

Imagine the sun on the volume cover is actually a nuclear explosion which is also plausible due to the new ending.
Honestly, love the bonus 8 pages. I liked the original ending overall but it did feel a bit too hopeful compared to everything beforehand. I think doubling down on the cycle of violence and inevitability of war was the right thing to do.

Rockman Dash (Mega Man Legends) is a video game by Capcom, first release in the PS1 then N64. It's a Zelda N64 like game, but with Mega Man. This game is a cult classic, it's one of my favorite Mega Man series. The setting takes place in a world covered by water with few islands that are remaining in the world. Theories about the game takes place centuries after the events of the Mega Man Zero/ZX Advent games when the world got flooded.

Hold on, if the general story arc for EMA was supposedly planned from the beginning, doesn't that contradict some of Isayama's previous interviews? He's admitted he changed the ending, going from it being like The Mist to more like Guardians of the Galaxy. Also didn't he also say that he was originally planning for it to be Armin who would "betray the readers," except that as time went on he started feeling like it needed to be Eren instead? I suppose he might have started off with a VERY loose and broad idea of where the three would end up going as a group, but I don't think it was all as planned out as he's trying to make it sound here.
The change would have been they being reunited in heaven or hell in mist type ending
Im actually satisfied with the ending since isayama put all his hard work on into it and as much as sad it is its was a beautiful yet painful ending and thank you for explaining the guide book because i don't really understand and read japanese so thank you but the thing im sad about is the ending of mikasa and eren don't get me wrong im really satisfied and not disappointed in the ending it's just sad for me to see eren and mikasa not being together even though they both want to be together and once again thank you for explaining everything on the guide book it really helped me understand the story much better so thank you 😊
