- The bouzouki has a rich and distinct sound, but also a distinct style of play. Classic bouzouki style is often played more up and down the fret board than across the fret board.

You are one articulate bouzouki player. Outstanding. Thanks.
Thank you for the very tropical explanation, i really feel like it's Tom cruise talking 😊
THE REBETIKO bouzouki had only 3=double strings as apposed to the modern 4=Double string Bouzouki (originally designed by Hiotis). which means there was less string to play across (D,A,D).
By the way, Manolis Hiotis Started out as a Spanish style guitarist thus whey he designed it this way.
Excellent tips! Thanks.
Thank you, really helpful stuff, much appreciated 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙏🏼
I am coming up on a vast time off and I want to try to learn some of this!
@kobrameat That's a good idea. I need to listen to more Tsitsanis first...
Excellent explanation, instant subscribe.Q: I'm a guitarist trying to figure out the fingering for 0:21 - 0:26 of TRIO BEL CANTO.Den katalaveno tipota . Does the player actually move his left hand down 4 frets during the (fast!) run.. or does he change strings?
That's a more modern style; they are probably using tetrachordo tuning, and their left hand technique is the same as typical guitar. My guess is that it is across the fretboard, sounds like sweeping even. But it's hard to tell.
So would I be able to play the Greek bouzouki ? Even though I can play an electric six string guitar ! Cool 👍
Do you have a video of someone starting from scratch for some one who’s never played any string instrument like different notes and finger positioning etc would really help
I'll make a video like that
slimwillywilliams thanks would really help bought a bouzouki a fuew months ago in Greece would love to learn it but I have never even played a guitar before so I’m literally starting from the bottom
Very cool! This is one of the most difficult techniques to master- especially when coming from guitar to bouzouki. Thanks for the great video slimy!
Looking fwd to more! Maybe a Tsitsanis technique analysis with a compare/contrast with Vamvakaris video?!? Would love that!!!
You've already nailed the Vamvakaris style, the Tsitsanis may be a bit more difficult imho but would open a whole new dimension to your playing.
Also do you recommend a thick or thin pick?
0.72 mm is best
is you bouzouki amplified? if not restring. that doesnt sound right, and believe me i would know! good vid though
This instrument needs more than a restring; it is in terrible shape. Fortunately I have another. Absolutely, it is due for restring, thanks for the suggestion.
@AlexBouzouki I'll defer to your authority on the history...I'm no expert.
