The heartache is too much for me. I still mourn them everyday no matter what. Each dog is unique and irreplaceable.
Just last week, I had to say goodbye to my lab, who I had for fourteen years. It was easier than I was expecting because he was everything to me. He was my buddy.
The pain of losing your pet/friend is unbearable.
PLS, reinsure them they're loved. Be there for them. Hold them as they pass. Don't desert them.
They need you in these latter days.
Dont get upset with them as they can't help themselves.
Yes, it is the hardest thing to go through....my lovely dog passed in February and I had to put her to sleep. It was the hardest thing I have ever done.
My wife and I have had 14 dogs in our life time. We have gone through their deaths. One's heart aches for a while, but there is something that I say to my wife that helps. I said this to my sister after she lost her dogs... I say to them that you give a dog a loving home to live with you and they give you unconditional love and loyalty. When they pass, if they could talk, they would say to get another dog ASAP. Why? Look at all the dogs that are put to sleep at shelters and pounds. Those dogs would love to come home with you rather than sit in one of those places listening to all the dogs being put to sleep. Why indulge in self pity and cry over life's cycle, when you can give another dog or 3 a great life, at your home, so they can give you the love you need!!! Our old dog is now 15 and she is showing dementia, loss of body functions, can barely eat and drinks small amounts. She is getting skinny too. BUT, she enjoys our nightly DVD movies and sleeping by her, what we call boy friend. He is 10, big and strong and lays up against her to keep her warm at night. His snoring gives her comfort. He knows she is going soon, but he does not cry, he just keeps her warm and walks with her in the yard when she goes out to do her business. Dogs teach you life and what lies ahead for all of us. The cycle of life has been going on for billions of years and our dogs make life worth living. God made dogs for us to be loved unconditionally and to have unquestionable loyalty. Give that back to your dog and when the time comes and they pass, give another dog life in your home. There is always room for move love.
Absolutely agree with everything you have said. We have had many rescue dogs in my life. We have had young, older dogs find us. We are hurt beyond words when they are at the end of their life but when the hurt softens we always have room for another dog that needs a loving home.
I just put my precious Boris down three weeks ago. Was the hardest decision i ever made. He was most loyal and loving dog I've ever had. Had him for 13 years. Still tough to live without him. May he rest in heaven for his spirit will always be with me.
Dogs are the greatest species on this planet. I cannot wait for the day that my time comes so that I can be re-united with them for eternity. I know they are waiting for daddy.

2 weeks ago we put down our 15.5 yr. old Standard Schnauzer, Tesla, we called her The Queen. I'm still very much grieving however it is beginning to soften. That may seem a short time to some however at 66 I've gone through this tooo many times. I still talk to her daily and I'm crying right now, but I know my husband and I gave her the best life we could. Much love my queen, till we meet again💖
My beloved 17 years old Border collie had all the mentioned signs during her final days. I missed her a lot. She arrived at my home on the 25th of September 2006 and passed away on the 25th of September 2023. She will be forever missed. ❤❤❤❤

I had to have my soul dog put to sleep. She was laying on me looking into my eyes. I really miss her every day
Thanks for this. I had to put my dog down this past Friday. He was my longest companion for 15 years. I was so lucky to have had him for so long. This was a tough decision, but my heart and intuition told me it was time. He had all of these. His vet and staff assured that I made the right decision. It has been hard, but I couldn't see him getting worse and worse.

Today would of been my dogs birthday she would of been 9 today .... next month she will be gone a year still miss my girl
My roommate and I each had a dog. He had a 15 year old long haired chihuahua named Jesse and I had a 10-year old German Shepherd named Barron. They were both rescue dogs. Jesse has been trying to escape under our gate for the 8 years that I have lived here &my dog in the German Shepherd was slowly going blind. Tuesday of this week Jesse made her Great Escape But A Good Samaritan picked her up and dropped her off at an emergency vet that was open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. She was chipped so they called us and we got in my car and went down and retrieved her. The next day on Wednesday May 8th my dog started being incontinent gushing blood. My roommate's dog crawled underneath his bed and had a stroke or seizure and was totally unconscious so he had to have her put down and 2 hours later my German Shepherd Barron died in our living room. They had spent the last eight years together and they died 2 hours apart and we buried both of them together & planted wildflowers over them. We both have been taking this very hard and crying everyday since Wednesday. Thank you for making a video like this that will help us to grieve properly however long it takes. The hardest part for me is that when I go out of my bedroom door I expect to see my Barren waiting there for me! ❤😢❤

I share this feeling. Poopie my pet bunny was with us since birth. He was more like a puppy than a bunny. He would run to the door hearing the keypad turned and played and cuddled just like a pup. He was 12 with all of us around him when he peacefully passed. That was 9 years ago. I still 😢 missing him. His pics and some of his toys are still around the house. Lol I didn't even cry that hard and long when my mother-in-law died.

I just had to say good-bye to my best little friend 24 hours ago. I am more than devastated. I can't eat, am trying to drink and even though I tried to prepare myself for her passing (she was 2 weeks away from her 14th birthday), I never imagined it would be this hard. She and I were very close. She howled incessantly whenever I was gone, which wasn't often since I am retired. She never left my side and she was the sweetest dog I have ever had. She always did everything we wanted her to do. Even the night before she passed and we were worried that she wasn't urinating, she would try every time we took her outside. She would squat for one second but fell as she couldn't hold herself up. I would try holding her up and I think she kept trying to please us. I thought she would be full of urine but her bladder ended up being empty (according to her scan) despite tons of drinking so I think her kidneys were shutting down. Thank you for letting me rant. It hurts so very much!!!

We recently lost one of our dogs. It was the saddest and most heartbreaking experience. She was 15 y/o - pretty much the limit for this breed. Her brother who is the same age is faring better, but he is also declining. The biggest change for him is a decreased appetite and bouts of anxiety when he stares into space and shakes uncontrollably. These episodes are becoming more frequent. He is still enjoying our time together, tries to run around the yard and goes on daily walks. But we are well aware the day will come when we will have to make a hard decision. It's very sad, but I keep reminding myself that every extra day we can show him our love is a precious gift.

Our Bindi passed 5 years ago, still miss her but it was time. We took her on her last walk to her favourite place and had to carry her the last half of her favourite route. She looked into our eyes and cried. This was her way of letting us know it was time. She was 14.5 years old. Pretty good since at 5 months old we were told she would only live 2 years. Three weeks later we rescued a puppy mill dog who was 5 months old. She has multiple health issues but is loving life right now at 6 years old. We know she won’t make 14 years but we will give her the best years we can till her time too comes. It hurts to let them go but it hurts more to think they wouldn’t have had the love and comfort we give them daily just because we don’t want to let them go sometime in the future.
After witnessing the last few weeks of my 2 cats 2-3 months apart, i would say the majority of these would apply to them too. I especially noticed in the last 36 hours they would entirely empty their bladder on the floor or on my bed, they both expressed at some point one long and very loud groan and increasingly shallow silent breathing. One passed while i was asleep. The other passed while i was laying next to her on the bed comforting her. Every few minutes i would place a fingertip over her heart to see if she was still here because i could hardly tell if she was breathing or not. She made no attempt to stop me (cats hate tummy/chest rubs). She didn't even flinch. One minute the pulse was there, the next minute it wasn't and she was gone.
Very sad, but at the same time a sense of relief that they she was no longer suffering.
I did pretty well with my second dying dog (pain management, not waiting too long to put her down, etc.), the first one, not so much. I wish I'd known better, for her sake.
Both were euthanized at home though, with me present. Terrible experiences each, but a million times better than dragging them to the place that they hated most for their last moments.

Same with me. My dog would look like he was dying, then bounce back. He did that several times so I always expected it. One day he collapsed & couldn’t get back up. I struggled to get him inside & barely got him into the kitchen. I had to roll him back & forth in order to put a pad under him. When my husband came home we got a vet to come to the house & put him down. I could have never made that decision if he was still walking about. I still miss him terribly but I know I did the right thing for him.
Thomas, I have been reluctant to get a dog because I feat the pain of losing him/her would be too great & make my remaining time on Earth feel empty. You have lost two. Would you do it all over again? Does the joy & memories of your time with them outweigh your feelings of loss?
@@mattb3846 I would do it again (I probably only have time for one more though). These days I enjoy being a dog grandpa, helping out with friends' dogs, etc. All the fun with none of the responsibilities.

My fur baby passed this year 3 days after his 10th bday - end stage kidney disease. I too wish I could come home after work and find him holding his favorite toy telling me its time to play. Would fill my heart with joy and so much love. The days worries would melt away, it’s not fair they are only with us for a short time.

The ONLY thing that's gonna fill that huge empty hole in your heart is another dog.
I know because I have been through it so much. It keeps you busy and your home doesn't feel so empty but most of all being unconditionally loved and needed again.
@@mollybailes5161 Dear Molly, in fact I have a new companion dog now - but it needed more than 4 years until I could allow any other dog in my life, otherwise I would have felt as a traitor to the faithfulness of the one I had lost before (see my icon). I have shed a million tears until there were no more left which was even harder. Then I considered to return the love I had received, quit eating animals (so to say became vegan) and decided to help another dog in need and adopt a street dog that was caught begging for food in the streets of Crete, Greece. He had a rope around his neck that left a deep scar. I knew I should not look out for a beautiful dog but a dog in need, as if my previous dog had taught me to rescue any of his fellow beings. So I did. This second dog does not have the looks I`d prefer but he is nice and friendly to everyone, kids or dogs. I admire him for that, so easy to handle. He lives a good life with me now, never being hungry again and although this sweet one behaves perfect and has my respect, I still feel my old dog around, like a guardian angel, always present. And I know some day I will see him again...

We lost our Siberian Husky Shaer over Christmas. She made it to the grand old age of 19 (the normal lifespan is 11 to 13).
We lost her brother Alaskan Malamute Talon 4 years ago this week.
Loosing them was the hardest experience.
They are now reunited, still causing chaos and making friends.
Until we are reunited my beautiful pups.
Shaer was one of the oldest Huskies in the World when we lost her.

We lost our Rottweiler after 11 years with us on 6th May 2024. He stays in your bedroom night and day. Two weeks before he passed away one night he was sitting on his bed instead of sleeping normally at that time. I was watching my phone and turned to his side. I saw water in his eyes looking at me. I immediately got up and sat down with him. That day first time I felt he may not see day. Same experience after two days. Took him to the pet hospital and he died while trying to remove fluids from the heart side in the operation table. We don't know we did the right thing by taking him to doctor. 😭

My dog spent 13 years with us. She didn’t exhibit any of these signs. She ate and moved and the only thing was she did show some stiffness in getting up sometimes but nothing extra. Then 1 day… I came home and she was just lying there. Gone. 😢😢😢😢😢

If you are fortunate enough to get weeks of warning, get a puppy to make the transition easier on you. Your dog is leaving, like it or not, and your mental health is what's important. Some people say, your dog knows that pup is her replacement. Dog's don't think like that. Everybody loves a puppy, even your old dog. It's definitely a hard time, but the pup will help.

Reluctance to move may be a sign of increasing arthritis rather than of imminent death. My JRT is now 18 (but I've heard of JRTs going on to 21) and is reluctant to get out of her bed when it's time for a walk (even just in the gardens surrounding our block of flats). Yet if she doesn't get some exercise, her joints will lock up even more. Once a day we go out to one of her normal walking venues (though the walk is much shorter and may have a time sitting on my lap) and she enjoys sniffing a lot of interesting smells, so I don't think she's actually approaching her end just yet. So I think we have to be careful about judging nearness to death just from reluctance to move - there must be other possible indicators.
I had my beautiful beloigirl Abee, 12 year old amstaff, put to sleep on Monday, after a massive stroke on Sunday night, there was no warning, no signs, my girl was paralyzed after the stroke, yhe RSPCA lete spend an hour with her, stay with Abee till the bitter heartbreaking end, I still feel guilty, I can't stop crying, I feel lost & in a black hole that I can't escape out off, I feel like I'm about to drown in my tears, my heart is shattered, it won't heal

I had to deal with a dying Corgi, my bestest friend, so help me, a little over a year ago. Sadie had lost the ability to be housebroken, had to stay out on my patio in the cold and wet. It broke my heart. She could hardly move. The vet thought she had arthritis throughout her body. I decided it wise to euthanize her so in early January, 2023, I did just that. So help me, it was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do. I'm still not over it but think I made a smart decision to get another dog. I'm glad I did!

My little guy was a little over 8 years old when he left, for some reason I let two people father their dogs litters. A few months after he died these two people not knowing each other gave me one of the puppies from each litter, I have two of his daughters. Funny thing is they each have his personality. About 9 months ago the little girl next door to me gave me one of her kittens because as she said everybody should have a kitten. That little girl has down syndrome, also this past winter I found 3 frozen puppies in a field about a block from my house one night. Sadly two of the puppies froze to death but the third is doing fine with me and his step moms and step brother.

I hope I did the right thing. My 18 year old dog, Piper, underwent a rapid decline in only 3 days. The vet said she could try a few things but she didn’t hold out much hope. I made the decision to help her pass peacefully. It was heartbreaking. Now I wonder if more could have been done. Did I fail her?

I lost my wife in 2020 to a stroke I just had to put my Pit bull to sleep I had him for 14 years It hurts bad he was my companion my friend he kept me alive after my wife died

Amgel is only 9 has an1/8th of a socket on one side and 1/3 on other. Was full of just worms when i got her hair like wire. She is having alot of these symptoms. Im really worried about here

@DoggyDrifts k9 carts sent me a set of wheels for her for $50 it was almost 900. That was awesome. It hurts her some cause she is so scared of it. But I will adjust again
Had legs way to high. Poor baby. Rescue dogs are tye best. I can leave gate wide open for hours and she will NOT go anywhere. None ever have. I cant make them leave lol. After what they go thru they know where life is good.
I get less than 1000 every month but she wants for nothing. Like she eats steak almost every night and I eat ham an hot dogs. Hahaha. I give her one handful every night cut in.little pieces. So she likes her life. Thank you

As much as I want to have more K9 babies in my life ; I don't believe that I can.... It HURTS WAAAAYYYYYY TOOOOOO MUCH to experience and go through all of this again !!!!!!! I can only hope I'm called up to be with my precious babies..
