As an American, I can't stand the idea of the EU being referred to as a democratic union because it isn't. You know how I know? I know my State Rep (different from a Congressman) on a personal first-name basis. He votes on the behalf of other Pennsylvanians (my State) where Pennsylvanian laws hold sway, where we have control over our local affairs rather than the bureaucratic nightmare that is Brussels. As intelligent as he is, and as humorous as he can be, Rees-Mogg would be the completely wrong choice of PM in modern-day Britain, in my opinion. Johnson didn't represent the vast majority of [young] British people, Rees-Mogg would be even worse, in that respect.
I've voted Conservative before in my life, but I don't vote for them anymore. The Conservatives - and other centre-right or right-wing parties in Europe - are too caught up in paranoia and a "let's-play-it-safe" mentality for my personal liking.
