The video covered the basics of the 4231 formation, with some simple directions of the functions of some of the positions.
Build up play.
Basic details for ball retention and playing out the back.
Avoiding a high press.
Patterns of play to encourage third-man running to create crossing opportunities.
Switching play.
Adapting shape to counter midfield numerical parity by opponents switching to a back three. (Which was common in our league at the time.)
