  • Seat walls can be a great addition for any patio. Not only do that act as extra seating, that also do an amazing job framing in the space separating the patio from the yard. Adding columns is a great way to have extra places to sit your plates and beverages. In this short video we give some ideas of what to consider and costs of a seat wall vs bench wall

This is a brief but well explained video, thank you. 2 questions: do you think it's more cost effective to use cinderblocks underneath and cover them with paver stones? Also, mortar vs concrete adhesive for this project, what is your opinion?

Thank you for your questions. #1) Cinderblock construction would be more costly. It requires knowledge of masonry, concrete footers, more materials and labor. While the application shown is using segmental freestanding block walls using adhesive and gravity - it only requires a compacted crushed stone base and stacked together using adhesive to bond together. Either application will require accurate cuts using diamond blade. #2) You would need to use mortar if going with the cinderblock/masonry construction method or adhesive for the segmental wall method shown in this video. I hope this helps!

I am thinking of a two foot gas firepit with a one foot border to the pit. Making it a four foot diameter. Question is how far should the sitting wall be from the center? In this video you said 5ft open space for chairs to be placed between the pit and sitting wall. I would like to have the sitting wall as the main seats and one should be able to prop theirs legs on the pit’s birder

If you are going to use wall as main seating and prop your feet up on it just know that it will be tight and not a lot of room for folks to move around. Think about a stadium or a situation where you have to get up to let others by you. However, if that is how you'd like it then you would be looking at +/- 3' of space between the pit and the wall depending on your height. You would want to start by turning the size of your fire pit into diameter which is 1/2 the total of the size of the circle. 1.5' + 3' space between = 4.5' from the center. This example does not include thickness of wall but I hope it helps you!!

I'm having a hard time finding wall blocks with texture on both sides like the ones in your video. Most of the blocks I've found only have texture and actually look good on one side. What type of block did you use for this wall?

Hi Drew! The blocks used in this video are Highland Freestanding Wall blocks. Most freestanding walls will have finished sides on both sides. I hope this helps!

I see this video is 5 years old and was just curious with the way lumber and everything has gone up is this wall still 125 a linear foot and I see another one of your videos says pavers are 15 to 20 a square foot is that still the same five years late?

Hi Austin, thanks for your question! Due to the increase in material costs over the past few years, the price has practically doubled since the video was made. For an accurate quote, we would need to conduct an onsite evaluation. Please reach out to schedule a visit. Thanks!
