  • BMFORMWORK EPISODE: 15- FORMING A CONCRETE SEAT
Hi everybody. In this video I show the formwork for a mass concrete seat for a clients backyard. I don't show the concrete or steel fixing only the formwork construction. You could use this video as a DIY guide to building your own seats.

Great video just wondering what kind of wood are you using for your bench frame? Thanks in advance

me too! unfortunately that's different trade to formwork. I'm too much of a pussy to film around concretors I don't know! but 99% of the time I'm not there during pour.

Cool video. Do you think it’s worth it, all the formwork? When you could get a similar aesthetic from blockwork and rendering? And cost too?

Great work, are you using regular concrete or special mixing to get that nice final looking, and also fornthe built in chair do we need to use any Steel for fiber ?

it is a white concrete. raise the water and cement for better finish. yes always use steel. putting it on all the faces will stop cracking, a basic way to look at it is that anywhere without steel is where a crack can appear. The concrete guys on this were lazy and didn't install steel so unfortunately it has already got some cracks. every season it will worsen. what are you planning to build?

Awesome video bro. You reckon it would be a good idea to use screws on the formwork to allow the finisher to trowel finish the seat easier ? Does the soldier whaler spacing remain ?

Hi Hugh. instead of screw do you mean bolt? you cannot bolt this as the existing wall is brick. sometimes we might bolt something like this and glue the bolt into existing. doesn't work with brick.

@@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783 sorry I meant into formwork for ease of stripping if you wanted to strip and trowel the face of the seat

Oh I see, yeah these were not going to be wet faced. We don't wet face much here. if it was going to be, yes I would screw or nail it differently leaving heads exposed for easy pulling.
