    Our top 10 places:
    Number 10 - El Draguillo
    This hike is located on the northern part of the island. If offers stunning views over the mountains and the coastline, if you are lucky like we were, you can meet some local goats.
    The nature is quite dramatic and along the way we met hundreds of small, curious lizards. The hike took approximately 3 hours.
    ---
    Number 9 - Cueva del Tancón
    Is located near Los Gigantes on the west coast. There are several entrances to this cave, some people jump in from the roof.
    But you can also swim into the cave directly from the sea. You have to swim down 4-5 meters and then 15-20 meters to the side. However, you must be careful here due to strong currents can pull you in or out. Swimming here is not recommended due to these risks.
    ---
    Number 8 - Masca Valley
    This beautiful valley worth visiting. If you rent a car, you should definitely stop along the way and take in the magnificent views of the winding roads down to the small village. The village is quite touristy but beautiful.
    ---
    Number 7 - Punta de las Salinas
    With only 8 available parking lots, this is not a place where you’ll find a lot of tourists. We found this place by accident, and it was a unique experience. If you come here early in the day, hopefully you’ll have the whole place to yourselves. The water in the natural pool is warmer than the ocean, which is nice. If you’re into snorkeling or diving, be sure to check out the water outside the pool as well.
    ---
    Number 6 - Turtle Bay
    A couple of years ago this bay inhabited plenty of turtles, hence the name. However, there are rumours that the turtles were killed by some mad tourists. We didn’t meet any turtles unfortunately, still, the water was nice.
    This bay can be quite crowded, but if you walk on the right side of the beach you’ll eventually come to a more rocky spot where you can be alone.
    ---
    Number 5 - Arco de Tajao
    This unique rock formation is located in the south, and is easy to access, only 200 meter walk from the road. Not a lot of people know about this place. When we came here, we were completely alone for half an hour.
    ---
    Number 4 - Lunar Paisaje
    Finding this amazing hike is a bit tricky. The GPS guided us to roads that were impossible for our rental car to go through. Unless you have an SUV, we recommend coming from the north, through Teide National Park. When you arrive, you’ll have to hike 1 or 2 hours until you reach the rock formations. This place is extraordinary.
    ---
    Number 3 - Los Gigantes
    The name Los Gigantes is referring to the gigant cliffs along the coast north of the village. We rented a small boat in the harbour. They had a deal, rent a boat for 4 hours and get an extra hour for free. With five hours, you’ll have plenty of time exploring the coast, caves, and the sea. This was the highlight of our snorkeling adventure.
    In the harbour snorkeling is not allowed, but you’ll be able to see a lot of fish. We were lucky enough to see a huge stingray.
    ---
    Number 2 - Anaga Forest Reserve
    This huge reserve is located in the north of the island. Due to high humidity, the forest differ a lot from other parts of the island that are much dryer. Tree trunks are covered with green moss, fungi grow on old logs, and some areas are covered with large ferns.
    We recommend that you go to Las Vueltas and hike up the trail north from the parking lot. This hike is much more beautiful and there are less tourists here.
    ----
    Number 1 - Teide National Park
    We placed it as number 1 for several reasons. The landscape is very unique, there are many interesting hiking trails, and most of them you can go on alone.
    If you want, you can go to the top of the volcano by cable car. However, be sure to book the tickets in advance. We tried to buy tickets on the spot, but it was fully booked for the whole day.
    We actually went to Teide National Park twice, once during the day, and once in the middle of the night. This is a must! I’ve never seen a clearer sky and the milky way this clear before.

    El Teide is so amazing. I was there late September 2019. I can't wait to return and explore everything there is to see there. I love Tenerife. It's la Isla of my ancestors and I was fortunate to meet some distant cousins that live there. Thank you for this video.

    Hi Robin, thanks so much for the fantastic video - we're travelling to Tenerife tomorrow and will definitely check most of these places out! I got my RYA LV2 boat license and was wondering if you had any more details on the best place to rent a small boat around Los Gigantes? Thanks a lot!

    • @TravelOns
      @TravelOns  Před 2 lety

      Glad you liked the video :) Congratulations on the boat license, the boat rental in Los Gigantes was a highlight - such a cool place!
      We rented our boat in the harbour, the service was great so I recommend it. I know that there are several places in town where you can rent a boat, but I don't know if they are better or worse.
      I recommend that you talk or call the companies in advance and ask for price info.
      Good luck on your adventure!

    Hey! @travel Ons first of all, thank you so much for this video. I love when people get off the road ALWAYS taken and do their own thing. I had a question about visiting Teide at night: did you go as part of a tour or just drive up on your own? What would you recomend?

    • @TravelOns
      @TravelOns  Před 2 lety

      What a lovely comment and great question :) We went up by ourselves in our rental car. We were alone in the dark and the night sky was amazing!
      We never went up to the top, but I imaging the night sky being even cooler there. But then you need to go with a guide or a group.

    Hey! Great video! Do you by any chance remember the boat hire company from Los Gigantes? Are there many boat hire companies available in the village and also, are snorkel gear available to hire as well?

    • @TravelOns
      @TravelOns  Před 3 lety

      Thank you! :) Glad you liked the video! The company we used was MPC Yacht Charter (Mojo Picon Yacht). Since we had our own gear, we didn't ask if it was possible to rent gear from the company. But I would guess that it's possible :) You should ask around.
      We went to Los Gigantes without planning and took the company that looked best. Hehe
      Good luck with your adventures! If you have any more questions I'll gladly help you out

    Hey! Great video! When did you go there exactly ? And is the ocean warm enough to swim without wet suit ?

    • @TravelOns
      @TravelOns  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks man! We went in the end of July 2019. I would say the ocean was warm enough to swim without a wetsuit. But if you are going to stay in the water for longer periods, it's better to have a wetsuit. I think it was between 20-22°C. Now it's below 20°C, but in September it can be up to 23-24°C :)

    En Punta de las salinas, it is difficult the access to the water due to the rocks?And have we have to have special care for not harming our feet? I see that you are going barefoot at the video but I wanted to ask anyway. Thank you!

    How long was they hike from Las Vueltas?
    Were going in a few months and this video has changed my idea on what we were doing on our holiday.
    Was going to be a cheap beer and beach holiday, but after seeing the views will be taking a leaf out of your books and exploring for sure
    Also, how much was that boat hire?

    • @TravelOns
      @TravelOns  Před 4 lety +1

      Glad you like the video and that I inspired you :) The hike from Las Vueltas was not that long. 1-2 hours. It depends on which way you take and how fast you hike.
      Regarding boat hire, I think we paid 300€ for 5 hours. But it all depends on what boat you rent. If you don't want to drive yourselves, you can go on a boat trip with a skipper. You'll actually pay less, but you will also have less freedom ;)
      Good luck on your travels!

    Hi Robin, tell me please, of I need to have license to rent a boat ? Because I have a big experience of driving the boat like this, but in Ukraine, where I am from, we don’t need this license, so I don’t have it. What do you think, if it’s possible to rent it without license?
