A remastered edition of a 1966 CBS TV Festival series featuring - Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Sunnyland Slim, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and more . . .
It's amazing that I've actually seen all these guys live in the 60's ! Mostly due to the Blues Buses which used to tour the UK in 1966 onwards for a couple of years. We all loved each other and the Guys were amazed they received such love from us especially as in the USA they were sadly still having to 'go to the back of the bus'! I feel blessed that I was born in the 40's and able to grow up with these guys and their music. Lived in the USA for 25 years but now I'm back in the United Kingdom but The Blues is still one of the main 'styles' Thank you USA. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS DIAMOND!
I never stop loving these people. I can watch tis over and over again, and most times I do. What a wonderful thing it would be to go back to those times!❤
My Goodness! What a treat. Thank you very much....in 1966 I was really ignorant of just who made my rock & roll possible......thanks to those pioneers. steve
I beg you pardon, the blues is alive and well. I travel the world and hear it in many countries and many venues. Granted it isnt like the people who play here. How could it be. I saw Howling Wolf in NYC, forget it, I can't come close. All I can do is write some new ones and hobble along. Big Chief
Dixon looks like he’s chilling out swatting flies drinking lemonade on a sweaty southern day. Meanwhile he’s rockin the stand slap style bass that he invented! Damn man, that cool.
Im a new blues fan at 57 years old.. and I'm like where in the world has Blues been at my whole life why haven't I been a Blues fan all along God I love it I don't want to listen anything else
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 I love the blues since I was 18 years old back in the day of 1977. I was a drummer back then and then played Hammond Oregon and Leslie speaker. Recently I started playing harmonica, Mississippi, Delta, blues, Southern, best I was born in South Texas, but live in San Francisco Bay area Northern California in the house❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊
Brownie plays so smooth and clean, it's hard to believe his licks. Just so clean and not flubbing anywhere. As to Sonny, the harmonica just seems to fit like a glove. Their harmony was incredibly tight; every time I heard them sing it was like they were precise beyond belief. Sonny to piss off Brownie by attempting to overshadow him with the harp. Man I saw and heard some harsh words, but I love these guys. Brownie wherever you are in Heaven, keep on singing until I get there with my Martin too. Lub you guys !!
This was my proudest moment at CBC - had the pleasure of supervising the remastering the original 2" Ampex tapes on one of the only surviving 2" recorders on the planet down in CBC's vaults. I was just the Unit Manager but the producer knew I'd spent the preceding 30 years playing in a blues band around Toronto and Ms.Paton permitted me to choose songs and takes of songs from among many hours of available material. These takes are but a fraction of the recordings made of the sessions recorded in CBC Toronto's Studio #4 over the course of two days.
It's almost incomprehensible that this program was originally on a major network. I was a 7 year old kid when this was on and still ten years away from discovering this music for myself. I was lucky enough to see Muddy, Willie and Sunnyland. Sunnyland I could see on a weekly basis at a dive called B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted. In Chicago of course. Still a lot of great players in this town.
It wasn't on CBS. That's a typo. It was on CBC in Canada. They brought all these players in to CBC Studios on Jarvis St. in Toronto. First time most of them had played together
'Finished my hitch in '66. The Navy couldn't keep me from gettin' back to the city where I didn't expect to miss a thing. Mind you Sonny Terry and Brownie Magee played a certain coffee house outside of Halifax quite frequently back then and I could catch all the blues I wanted late at night on the radio. The signals from the deep south wafted in and out... on up the coast to the Nova Scotia shores. One of my Navy buddies recorded these early greats on his borrowed Revox reel-to-reel. History!
All thanks to Rockerfella and his pals, screwing around with negative frequencies man. But Beauty Love and Truth coming shining through in the unappreciated buskers, tin pot performers and Jeffrey Lee Pierce
I was able to sit and listen to this in entirety.. How wonderful it is to take a trip back in time..this music documentary was put together beautifully..if made me laugh, cry, understand.. Thank you for posting this...
This band has the best lineup ever ,they all were excellent bluesmen in their own regard, I picked up a harmonica in 1970 because of these guys and it's been riding in my shirt pocket ever since ,my most trusted friend,
Welp, in another 30 years maybe You just maybe a good imitation of Little Walter. I'm still trying to get my Hubert Sumlin going on..........I get close at times but..........
a blues song revolves around a single point... and that point regardless of the singer.. revolves in all our lives.. that's why all races relate and love the Blues.... thank you dude!
Zedge Chicago you should tune in to blues before sunrise on Sunday mornings from midnight until 5:00 on public radio. If you don't sleep during those hours. If you do you might be able to get it on tape or find a way to stream it on the internet. Different show every week and they have gospel and sometimes pigmeat Markham. You can learn a lot.
