I come from the middle east. I never understood why I liked the blues. growing up in Syria I was the only person in the neighbourhood who listened to this kind of music, I always wondered why I listened to all these legends like BB King, Berry, Johnson and the man himself.. Hopkins.
when I grew up life got hard and I had to suffer through the war and through some realtionships with women. the funny thing is that I didn't understand the texts as a child. And now as an adult I had the blessing to learn the language better and understand what these legends are singing about, until I found out that they were singing about hard times that I went through, but don't forget the good times too.
And now as a grown man, I finally realised that I was't different from other people beacuse I listened to the Blues and they didn't, I was just simlpy blessed to be able to feel the Blues. Long Live the Blues

I am not moved by music… or much of anything these days. I’ve had a pretty traumatic couple of years. I closed my eyes and listened to this in the dark and just cried quietly. This was the most incredible music I think I’ve ever heard.

If it weren't for a photographer selling photos at a jazz festival in my home town, I'd have never known Robert Johnson. He traveled around and photographed blues musicians. I was looking for something to do, I crossed paths with his booth. I found photos of a headstone that read Robert Johnson. He told me the legend, I went home and learned how to play the blues. That was four years just short of twenty years ago. Now, this is where I go for peace of mind

I saw his statue in Crockett . it's on camp st . across from an old venue he used to play at . don't know what it was called in his day . when I was there it was called the camp st cafe . don't know what it is now .

53 yr. old white guy sitting here surfing CZcams - and found this. Never heard of him before but, Lightning is awesome! Can't help but thinking this kind of music was the influence that gave us Led Zeppelin's first album.

And it was Zeppelins first album that caused us to seek out where it came from.
Zepp debut album is also still so friggin good
Zeppelin ripped off lots, got sued back in the 90s (iirc) for a measly 2 mil. They didn't credit the original musicians. Still, Zeppelin put their mark on those songs & really made it their own, imo.
I look forward to retirement in my farm in Venezuela, with some cows and a nice dog, this music in that jungle will make me just happy in my hamac.. all of you are invited!

There's a bar in Exargia, Athens, Greece with a beautiful graffiti of this lp cover on the big door, outside. Now knowing the record I understand why many people has it as iconic and masterpiece. The sound is pristine, pure and direct... there's space , not too old and rusty like many other bluesman. Great discovering for me, it will be a good company for the future,

I've listened to every blues player that you can think of, and this man in my opinion, is the greatest of them all. Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of extremely talented blues players that influenced modern music, but lightning is the goat. Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Blind Lemon, Guitars Slim, BB King, exc, they all were greats that influenced the modern blues, jazz, rock and roll, r&b, and even hip-hop. I listen to all of them with a loving appreciation.

Now my pops was a blues gtr player & a blues singer and this was one of his heroes they called him Lighting Hopkins because when he strikes his guitar it sounds just like the thunder and lightning in the sky , this man was most definitely a GENIUS , Every Blues gtr player today owe a bit gratitude to this trailblazer RIP (ANCESTOR) GREAT LEGEND Mr Lightin Hopkins !!
