So yeah, Vivobarefoot vs Xero vs Amazon vs other barefoot shoes and sandals.
I think it's always worth it to invest in your total body health. However if you're not doing high-output activity then something like Xero, Feelgrounds, etc are fine.
The Amazon Saguaro/Whitin/generic ones do alright and if you're on a tight budget then they're a solid choice, however from a style, performance, and ethics POV I don't really care for them.
    Shoes listed in this video:
    Vivobarefoot Primus Trail
    Vivobarefoot Tempest ESC
    Xero Mesa Trail II
    Xero Hana leather
'Whitin/Jack Shibo/Saguaro' barefoot shoes (Amazon generic re-branded ones)
    Decathlon Forclaz Trek 500 sandals
    my own DIY leather sandals

Here in Sweden, VivoBarefoot & Xero cost about the same for the popular models.
I tried Vivo first (Primus Trail III SG) and really liked the materials and design but they didn't feel good on my feet and made a weird popping sound as I walked.
Then I tried Xero shoes (Scrambler Low & Mesa Trail II), and while they didn't look quite as good and the materials don't seem to be quite as premium, they felt amazing on the feet.
The best I've ever felt in a pair of shoes.
So for me (as an obstacle course runner) it was a no-brainer to go with Xero.

I have never tried Vivo, but have tried both Altra and Xero. I have to say I am a bit of a Xero fan, shipping to Canada can get a bit pricey but such is life. Similar to your experience I love wearing minimal shoes in all places, trails, mountains, lakes etc. I am pretty confident that we have been over sold on ideas such as we must have ankle support if we are going to go hiking for example. All the best.

I just bought my first barefoot shoes the other day. You got me sold on the vivo primus trails fg. Their womens 9s were out (the blue and white color) so i ended up getting 7 in men's. Hopefully it fits well. I used their picture sizing camera thing and it says I'm a 7 in men's shoes.
I can't wait. It'll be here in two weeks

This was an awesome run down. Huge fan of barefoot shoes. Will gladly subscribe and will checkout your link for some new barefoot shoes. I’ve worn Five fingers for several years now off and on but am disappointed in their lack of durability. Also their looks can be a little off putting for some people. Lol.

Great video I’d fully agree with everything you said well except for in trail running I do go are use Shama samples but the video are real heavy. Don’t know why actually but they’re ridiculously heavy and the zeros Mesa I think it’s called it’s actually pretty light and it’s constructed pretty well and I’ve been in both, and I kinda like the Zeros probably the only instance I like them better now my VO barefoot they all come from their recondition center so I don’t know if that’s giving me the best view of vivos that could be why it was so heavy. Maybe they have to change things I don’t know, but they’re Primus Trail 12 or I think it’s three they’re all about the same way there11 to 12 ounces, which is pretty heavy

Love your cat James! She looks pretty close with her color patterns as our own tuxedo cat. Very inquisitive she is! I have Vevos, Xero, the Amazon Joomra, and Bearfoot Ursus Hightops. All but the Joomras are hightops. In terms of value versus durability, the Vivo's, being brutally honest, are trash. The soles have hardened, chunk apart, and Vivo had no interest in simply telling me why. I was not expecting a free bee new pair, just answers. Never again from them, I will stick with the (actually wider toe box) others. Hi from a fellow subscribed Canadian.

If they wear out fast they are no good for me as that is part of the overall cost of a shoe. How many miles can I go before buying a new pair my first pair of xero prios lasted 4,000 miles on the roads, off road you can get more. I have not had any problems with the hard sole having bad traction. Vivo costs too much for me to want to try for something that will not last me as long, if I spend more I want to get more. I am looking for a wider barefoot shoe now mostly for the winter as I can wear the ztrek sandals for running in the warmer weather, they give me more room than the shoes but I have noticed my feet have widened these past almost 4 years now of not wearing death coffins on my feet.

You got guide for those DIY sandals? I'm finally ditching my clunky Keen Newports, and going to minimal and barefoot. Thinking Sageruo trail shoes for all around use, and then a DIY hide sandal or aquasock type for soft sole. People don't realize that moccasins are the ultimate minimal experience

I don't know man, I bought 4 pairs of merrels last year, trail gloves 5 - nice and light, but no heel padding at all and my heel doesn't stay in place.. comes out it's uncomfortable, the shoe have arches built in, it bothers me, I don't have high arch it beats into my foot.. selling them.
I bought interesting looking model called Wrapt, great sole, although thicker, but same problem with the heel fit, arch again, and as for quality- rubber around the front of the shoe started unglueing, peeling off after few wears, I've had same Vivos he's showing there (primus swim run) for some 6 years, had them on mountains, in sea as water shoes, played basketball in them.. they got beating, The sole is nearly worn through but the same part of rubber around the toes is intact after all those years.. there's just no comparison in quality.
Then 2 move glove, they fit great and are pleasant to wear, but again, the textile version- glue already coming off.. the leather version so far holding ok but I haven't used these for anything serious, some walks around town, maybe gym occasionally. And I alternate many pairs so they don't get a lot of wear..
Point here, at 100 something dollars merrels are nowhere near vivos in terms of quality. ..

downside of vevo are all the shills on youtube. seem like a nice guy but it is what it is bruv. say material technology one more time why don't ya. cmon guy. you admitted they started with 150k in research costs. A real company like adidas or nike. which actually do material science for real, burn that kind of money in R&D costs in 15 minutes. not that I'd endorse either of those cos or the junk they sell. but lets get real. you shillin too hard. tone it down a notch.
