    Johan Famaey: Piano Solo (BE)
Symphonic orchestra Prima La Musica, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé.
Embark on a musical journey with Johan's composition, "Spanish Rhapsody - Recuerdos de Bocairent," a vivid reflection of his transformative travels to Bocairent and Ontinyent at the tender age of 15. The rhapsody unfolds like a tapestry of memories, beginning with a timpani solo evoking the grandeur of the annual Moros y Christianos parade in Ontinyent. Picture the rhythmic procession echoing through the streets, accompanied by a mesmerizing flute choir.
As the melody weaves its intricate path, woodwinds engage in a polyphonic dance, leading to a majestic brass chorale adorned with a resplendent trumpet solo. Then, like a crescendo of emotions, the piano and strings introduce the main and secondary themes, painting a portrait of Spanish vibrancy and allure.
But the journey doesn't stop there. Enter the playful interlude, where the spirit of Spain comes alive in the arena of Bocairent's Plaça de Bous, as revelers tease and evade the charging bull. This spirited escapade transitions seamlessly into a serene variation of the initial theme, offering a moment of respite before diving back into the thrilling spectacle of the arena.
Amidst the flurry of notes, a lyrical interlude ensues, with the trumpet weaving a tale of romance and passion-a quintessential element of Spanish culture. The melody builds to a crescendo, with the piano taking center stage in a breathtaking cadenza, surprising listeners with its virtuosity.
And just when you think the journey is over, the first theme returns, heralded by the timpani and flutes, leading to a triumphant finale where the chorale and second theme converge in a dazzling display of musical prowess. In the end, "Spanish Rhapsody - Recuerdos de Bocairent" stands as a testament to Johan's love affair with Spain, capturing the essence of its culture and spirit in every note.
