Always wondered how to cut foam and get it the perfect fit, now watching your videos I now know, Thanks for giving me the inside story.
No problem mate, we'll do more videos like this on our channel very soon!
Cool video. Looks a lot better than ‘pick and pluck’, just what I have been looking for! Liked and subscribed.
Needed this system a long time ago. Thanks for your system I will pass this along to my friends son who just became an Airframe and Power plant mechanic. He needs this system for his new tool box.
Excellent! Let me know if there's anything more I can do to help 👍
@@ShadowFoamwhere i can buy the foam? Are there different sizes?
@@JuanKaMech best place to buy foam in all sizes is www.shadowfoam.com
And I really liked your video it was informative to the point and your products seem easy to use I'm so glad I watched your video thank you for making it have a nice day
Good video - very useful 👍
Fabulous. I’m thinking of using the foam in my camper. Loads of ideas.
Let us know how that goes Neil 👍
Love the videos bro and this one help me out a lot dude keep up the good work
Which method are you going to use?
Really liked the video. Funny bloopers at end. Just ordered the dewalt tough boxes and going to get these foams once I've decided how to have all the tools.
Have you seen our video on the DeWalt Toughsystem boxes?
Can wait to buy my starter kit
The spinners looks amazing !
Satisfying isn't it?
This is some cool stuff. I will check it out
Let me know how you get on!
Cool! Glad I discovered you guys and Shadow Foam. Trying to find something like this for a while, ‘pick and pluck’ foam too soft for my liking and use. Mt project is for my amateur radio equipment.
It'll be perfect for radio equipment, we've done a couple videos on camera and audio equipment, Welcome to the channel Ray 😀
Just bought some shadow foam for my Airsoft kit. Looking forward to trying it out. Hopefully I’ll get a nice smooth bottom.
Fingers crossed you get a nice smooth bottom!
Your shadow foam is absolutely brilliant. I’ve not know where to get a proper foam case insert for all of the audio devices that I have. Most of my mics, radio mics, and all sorts of audio kit I have has been using spongy foam from anywhere which does the job but looks such a mess and now the kit can look like a professional case to hold the items. I’ve also shown it to members in a photographic club and again everyone is well impressed with the professional finish available. I’m also finding the coloured foam helps with identification of types of kit where all of one type using its own colour. Brilliant product, well impressed. Thanks,
Keith
Thanks Keith, I would love to see some photos of your finished kit if you have any 👍
The spinners are Nice!👍👍
Cheers Spencer, I'm pretty made up with them too!
Do you have a vid on the hot foam finisher (heat gun) tool?
The hot smoother would be perfect for me to do my microphones in my cases thank you Jonathan I was a very good idea but I do my order I want to put one of my order
Let me know how you get on with your project, would love to see some pictures!
I am giving serious thought to getting a pair of those spinners.
Worth a punt with how relatively inexpensive they are, and worth it for that finished smooth bottom 👌
God dam, Shadow Foam is awesome!
You're absolutely right Thomas!
Love them. Have dewalt toughsystem 2.0 drawers ordered for christmas. And goin to get 2 inserts. You make it look so easy!! Is it really as easy for a biginner?
It really is this easy, just take your time and it all works out!
Nice
I've just ordered some foam to make a waterproof hardcase insert for a £2000 oscilloscope. I didn't think or know about smoothers when I ordered the foam, I'll have to see how good the CNC finish is.
Let us know how the project goes, sounds very interesting!
These would come in great for when i start to shadow foam my halfords boxes next month
Which method looks best to you?
@@ShadowFoam I like the look of the plastic drill attatchments
My shadow foam order for Dewalt Tough system 2.0 is already in.
I'm now going to Amazon to see if o can pick up these hot foam tools 🙂
You can also get them easily on our website - www.shadowfoam.com
Greetings, do your Ridgid pro gear inserts share compatibility with the 2.0 series of their pro gear boxes? I have the 2.0 stuff and need to know if the foam inserts y’all sell are done for those too. Thanks much!
Hi Jonesey, unfortunately not, but we are working on getting some 2.0 inserts ready for release soon. You could always buy a value pack of inserts and cut it down using one of our DIY Foam insert videos as reference. ope that helps, please let me know if there's anything more I can do for you.
yay! for smooth bottoms! :) lol
we love smooth bottoms!
Looking forward to a smooth bottom on my Sealey tool draw.
Drop us a picture of your smooth bottom, I'd love to see it! 👀
These products look great. Will they only work with Shadow Foam foam? I have a Dewalt's customisable insert, which was very difficult to cut and work with and the bottom are very rough. Do your other cutting equipment work with non Shadow Foam foam?
Couldn’t say for sure as these projects were engineered to work with Shadow Foam, which is higher density and heat melded instead of glue!
Like the out takes 😂
Who couldn't laugh asking for a smooth bottom? 😅
This is very timely. I need to cut quite a few of these for power tools and they all generally have various thicknesses.
Do you have an estimate when the 50mm Teal foam will be back?
Hi there, Teal sheets in 50mm are in stock. Are you talking about a specific insert?
Yes, sorry for not being specific enough. I was looking at the new L-BOXX inserts. Thanks
Shadow foam is probably the best product I've ever used....
Nigel, you are too kind my friend
Can I CNC mill it?
Would love to replicate that Ikea picture frame setup you have behind you for my smaller hand tools!
Have you seen our how to video for that IKEA frame French Cleat wall?
@@ShadowFoam Of course, that's the only reason I know they are from IKEA haha
I think they would help make a great 3D printer tool kit with the variety of tools used
That's a great idea for a video there 👏
When buying blades the site mentions type 3 scalpel but no where else do you explain that there types of scalpel
The spinners look good, I wonder if I could use a soldering iron 🤔
A soldering iron would work, a hot smoother would be better though, check ours out
www.shadowfoam.com/product/hot-smoother/
Happy I saw this. I thought I was obsessive..... but then I realized there are people in this world who are worried about what the bottom of their foam organizers look like. Damn!
If you're going to do a job, do it right! 👍
Yeah I'd love a smooth bottom.😄
Tried a hot smoother for that have you?
@@ShadowFoam would if I had one 😋
Would love to get some, but shipping to the US is crazy expensive. Almost the same cost as 3 standard medium 30mm sheets of foam.
Drop an email to my team at hello@shadowfoam.com and we'll see what we can do to help you!
Due to a recent divorce I'm building up my own toolbox!! These look really good and seem simple enough for me to accomplish on my own. Would love to win the smoothing tool and make a neat and tidy job of it 💪
Rita, you'll have no trouble at all with any of these tools, I think you'll do an amazing job!
Thanks hopefully I don't make a right pigs ear of it 🤣
I have faith in you, send us a picture when you're finished on instagram, I'd love to see it!
Hi Bought the Heated tool but find that it's just too hot to apply to the surface and burns pretty much on contact, not good when I'm using various coloured foams. In fact the only way I can use it is to "Hover"above the foam and let the heat melt the foam back, but any direct contact just makes a black burnt mess pretty much instantly. There iOS no heat control on the tool itself can you suggest a means of controlling the heat.
Which of our three head attachments do you use with it?
@@ShadowFoam Hi there! All of them. They all suffer with the same problem. they all burn on contact, as said not great with the coloured foam. The other thing I find you have to watch out for is that if I am working in corners, the radiant heat from the stem of the tool is enough to start melting the foam back even at distance. As said, for me, the tool gets way to hot.
What about a Dremmel tool with a sanding disc on it as well...
Cut it in with the disc facing out on top
do you guys have a US distribution center?
Currently working on it Rob 👀
How do I order this foam and hot foam smoother
www.shadowfoam.com
Shadowbox for a/c. Tools
I like the sound of that!
I am still working on my Tool boxes and want to replace som foam from another brand. The spinner will make it a lot funnier to complete this😊
Let me know how you get on with that project! 👍
Hotsmother tool
Great tool, we love it!
Use a trim router for the whole thing, ideally the dremel router would be best. No need for a spinner and 10 x faster?
I’ll give that a whirl! 👍
@@ShadowFoam i dont have a dremel , but a good excuse to contemplate buing one . I havent worked much with shadowfoam but know its texture. Mostly work with eps , xps and acoustic foam on random projects. Im only guessing here but i think shadowfoam would be the only one you could route. Standard acoustic foam would catch the bit and become dangerous, eps i think would crumble. Xps is likely to shatter or crack. Let me know how you get on, and that’ll swing me on buying one 😅 cheers mate
Pity you don't have any ryobi colours would be nice in my tstak drawers.
Shadow is available in 7 colors, why not try one and see how it looks?
They have a color that’s close to ryobi green…
I'm planning to create some inserts for my knives-case!
What brand of knives?
@@ShadowFoam Spyderco and Civivi atm
Great knives those are!
Your factory is a foam from home Jona 😂
I call it Foamtopia! 😅
@@ShadowFoam I thought you were a shadow of your foamer self last time I saw you 🤣
I'd rather have a smooth bottom on my foam, than smooth foam on my bottom. 😂
Stahp 😂
Isn’t this FastCap Kaizen foam?
Similar but not the same, Shadow Foam was developed in 2012 in the UK and is available in a wider array of colours and sizes from shadowfoam.com
@@ShadowFoam well that spinner is definitely FastCap.
They are indeed and come directly to us from FastCap 👍
Just use different layers of foam, and join them after cutting them. So there’s no need for peeling the different layers. Just add 1 or 2 layers on the bottom.
Interesting idea, but would be more time consuming
@@ShadowFoam or sell it as a pack. Like 3+2+1 = 6 centimetres total thickness. No glue between the different layers, you need to apply it yourself, after finishing your layout.
@@pedrosmits our layers are heat bonded
@@ShadowFoam I understand, but it would be possible for customers to build up their own layers, with perfect bottom finish.
We only offer our product in sheets that are already bonded: 30, 50 and 70mm. We do not have any options to add layers
The heads are too short for this tool, as the shaft often gets to close to the top edge, when using the smaller heads. Need longer heads so the 1cm wide shaft doesn’t ruin sides
Thanks for the feedback! 👌
I'm trying to cut the whole thing in half.
What are you using?
@@ShadowFoam that's why I'm in CZcams land, lol. It is NOT easy. The only method I've found that looks decent, is to heat up a metal (like a coat hanger) and run the hot line through the middle of it. I'm having trouble finding a single video. My first idea 💡 was a big hack saw , not terrible but very hard to get a clean flush cut
If I want a smooth bottom on my foam insert I just get my girlfriend to sit on it.
😂😂😂
I prefer Peter Kay when he does comedy.
So you're saying I should cut garlic bread into foam?
Foam smoother looks like a plastic welder
So the kaizen style cut&peel line now replaces the spray painted version.
Possibly a formulation of acrylic paint/dye and latex ?
The fact is that it had a limited lifespan.
No abrasives and chemicals were used.
Conducive to coin collectors and items on permanent display
Not appropriate for hand tools
To now go and replace what was fundamentally a flawed product at close to £27 a sheet and spend hours and hours of tracing &cutting for 196 items.Madness
Only an idiot would buy your product again .
Necessity is the mother of all inventions
New foam is much more robust, dense, long lasting and easier to cut, it was an upgrade our customers have praised
Kaizen called
What did they say?
“We’re too expensive”, lol
