"It's never a good time, it's never gonna feel like you're ready, it's never gonna feel like you're prepared. You need to go before you're ready"
Damn, fucking gold right here.
Absolutely, man. Will definitely be incorporating this technique in my training.
Damn for real, gold advice
I'm glad I was a distance runner for a decade before taking up strongman, breathing hard is my comfort zone.
Being explosive though, thats a foreign concept.
PERFECT TIMING! I just did my first workout in over 8 months and I had to stop halfway through my old full body workout! Gotta keep striving and get back at it!!!
The thing I love about this video is Brian knows he is successful. He had done it all, made all the mistakes and he he simply sharing his success. More people should listen to the mentality aspect of his training, not just the exercises he does
EDIT: watched to the end and want to make a suggestion. Name these walking and talking videos something distinct and label them ‘walking talking podcast 1, walking talking podcast 2’.
(Or something that suits you)
I enjoyed listening to this as a podcast rather than sit down and watch content. Also might help with content diversification. Also helps people know what’s coming out and what to expect from videos. (Very humble advice ofc, but maybe something to consider)
I just did a 17 mile hike up a 14er here in Colorado, my old infantry ass wanted to quit but as soon as the lady I was with asked if we should turn around i said "oh hell no we have gone to far to stop now" My infantry brain kicked in and I pushed through. It smoked my ass.
Blue cord for strength brother
"Go when you're not ready" that is powerful
I love these walking rant videos
There is so much information to take in thank you
We all appreciate your rants Brian
You are literally the best and most inspiring life coach I've heard.
Keep the pond talks up man! This is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Been sick for the last few weeks and training for a comp has just fallen by the wayside - new aim is to rebuild for health. Work capacity is the way forward.
I love your channel man! Your motivation and drive inspires a lot of people. Keep up the awesome work man! :)
Always love these, Brian. It's the talks like these that I remind myself of when going into those hard gym days.
Great subject actually. Very useful info as always.
"Work Capacity" is the thing i'm most anticipating to wreck me starting up your program
Brian You are so awesome in so many ways! i can't thank you enough for all the Help, programs, motivation and much more that you have given me and so many others!
Much Respect brother and much love to everyone!
Preach! Awesome vid. Thanks for the inspiration. Definitely would love to see more of these.
Amazing advice! And a lot of what you said applies not just to the gym, but many aspects of life itself!
The pond talks are awesome!! Keep em' coming!!
Love your videos. Learning a lot. Trying to get back into shape after being out of USMC. You are vary motivating. Keep it up
Thank you, Brian. You have the ability to motivate and give those kick-your-ass-speeches. Please continue being awesome and inspiring us
Brian ,you're the real deal; thanks for your channel; great content and inspiration!
AMAZING info and advise bro keep up the great work. I hope that your treatment is going great, stay strong.
Brian, another great video. I have heard you talk about the benefits of giant sets many times, but this video has motivated to finally start doing them along with weighted carrys. I'm picking up 250 lbs of sand and filling the ole seabag today. Thanks as always for the motivation and the content you provide to the strength community.
Could spend all day absorbing your decades of experience.
Inspirational and passionate! Never change big guy :)
You hit everything and more that I try to instill in people that I work with, and coach. Thank you!
Of all I've learned from your vids, it's work capacity and your thoughts on it that've helped me most. 15 years of pushing myself and a bloke on the internet shows me I have so much more I'm almost ashamed I never found it.
I did the for distance yoke carry in my last program with you. 65% to start for 10 mins. I worked so hard, it literally took me 5 extra mins once I started getting out of bed the next day. Brutal.
I am loving your vids. Since I found your channel I have been so much more motivated in the gym, i am even looming into competing in a powerlifting comp. would love to see more vids on core workout, bit slower on the 'bandy twisting thing' so i can see your hand position, and grip strengthening. keep the vids coming.
Brian! Can't thank you enough. Am going through one of your free programs. And the last four weeks suggest 10 sets of 3. Was getting gassed before the end of the workout and was looking for ways to increase work capacity and you uploaded this.
This was totally everything I needed to hear today. Thanks
Great and very helpful video on something I have been thinking about more and more lately!
I watch a lot of BA content and this may be my favorite yet. Idc who you are functional training/work capacity can benefit and trickle down into SO many aspects of your life. Love how much you emphasize it Brian!
Thank you big brother for the very holistic approach to physicality and mentality. I appreciate that you are able to share you wisdom on such topics. More power to you from the Philippines!
Love these types of vids, Mr. Alsruhe. Please keep em coming.
Great video Brian! Like everyone commenting so far I love the pond talks. I totally agree with you about just carrying heavy stuff around. That may also have the greatest carryover into real life because we all carry stuff, whether it's your kids, groceries, stuff around your house, your yard, or at your job. When I used to take my twins for walks in their stroller I would sometimes carry a dumbbell with me. It's great because you switch sides when one gets tired but your forced to keep going because it's not like you can just leave that thing somewhere. Metal toughness is huge and vastly underrated. Anyway thanks for spewing out all the great wisdom. We all really appreciate it, and glad you are starting to feel better! ☺
I love that in the end he said, “ I think I hit a couple good points...” You got a lot more in, always love listening to you man. Thank you for doing this, you should do this more often.
Dude, i love this video i found your channel thanks to alan and you give so much inspiration! You kick ass brother thanks for the content!
Great stuff. Very applicable to one's daily life as well. Speaking of being preachy i am going to use some of what you mentioned in one of my homilues.
One of the best speeches in all things training related I have ever heard... So much trueness... You are a big inspiration for me here in Germany and my training and body/mind would be a lot more boring without you. God bless you Brian Alsruhe
Forgot how good this rant was. Thanks B.
I'm fired up. Appreciate ya man.
Brian is a true inspiration, I love this channel so much. Wholesome and important information!
Thanks for watching brother!
I'm a little late to this party but Brian I just wanted to thank you a ton for all of your content that you put out. Your warrior mindset and your philosophy on training has been eye opening to me. I'm beginning a career in law enforcement and so far everything you've said in your videos has been some of the best advice for training that I've ever heard in my life.
Great video as always!
Awesome stuff! Thank you!
Mental game is something I really need to shore up on. I looked up Goggins and ordered his book this morning "Can't Hurt Me: Master You Mind And Defy The Odds". I'm excited to read it and build myself up mentally so that I can push myself harder physically beyond the wall I feel I can't seem to overcome. Thanks for pointing him out Brian!
This was awesome! Really great tips and a pretty pond!
Aye thank u so much for this video I’m gonna get your program this is exactly what I wanted to know and I believe In your training experience and I can finally get to the level I wanted
Yep keep these coming. There perfect for when I’m folding laundry or driving because the visual component isn’t as important as the audio so it’s easy to consume and multitask where as the training tips in movements require watching and listening. As always thank for all you do! The way i look at work capacity is if you feel like you’re going to die or pass out then you did it perfectly if not then you cut it short.
I put these on my phone while I am lifting in my basement. Sometimes the new vids hotbed on a pertinent day (ie. Improve your deadlift video on deadlift day) always nice to listen to but I do find myself having to re watch some portions that I am catching during sets
thanks Brian, you inspire me to push myself in my training and at work... 2 months ago I started farmer walks with 50lb db in my drive way doing laps until I cant hold them any ..I gotta tell you its helping my grip get stronger and I was so freakin sore lol !!.... just got 55lb dbs working on them... thanks for pushing me to be better....
Spot on as always
Great advice Brian!
Great information Brian. I always get gassed trying to squat past 8 reps no matter how light or heavy. Also just realised I haven't done a mindset challenge in a long time.
Great video!
That was very very very awesome!
Just today after my workout I was thinking about how my training needs more volume and work capacity. Thank you for this.
I do love the walk around the lake rant videos. :-)
This is great thank you
You’re a beast. Thank you for this.
As an amazing coincidence I've just watched a post with David Goggins on CZcams, hosted by London Real. I'd never heard of him previously, really interesting and inspiring guy. I'd definitely recommend watching this.
I enjoyed this format! 👍
"Ah man" is a perfect way to describe the feeling of doing something you know sucks but also know will be good for you
Love Brian's gym philosophy. Keep it up.
Did the Dark Horse program. Put 30 pounds on my deadlift. Thanks Brian.
yes like it. keep them coming
Looking at the water and thinking about Bass fishing instead of leg day today...
Gotta get those proteins.
Well done
I like. Great stuff. I'm going do something I don't like today.
Great content as usual and it was a good listen. Have you thought of releasing these weekly videos in a short podcast format? I think it would work well.
woderful video, thank you!
One on one real talk videos with Brian are awesome!
This video is fire 🔥
Do you think you could ever get David Goggins in a video someday? Huge fan of you both!
I hope so but its not up to me
All great ideas/advice.... thank you for posting this. Would have been nice to see your puppies running around.
I can say for sure you're right. I've been up at 300lbs in a bad way, and coming down from that my calves are bomb.
great talk
11:18 Brian "Rain Man" Alsruhe
Hey Brian, I really enjoy the content of your pond talks. They're good for motivation, reminders, learning, etc. What would you think about doing it as a short podcast? I would really enjoy listening to them as I warm up or whatever and not have to have CZcams playing to hear it. I would listen to that everytime. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy watching you gesticulate as you walk around the lake, and I love catching glimpses of the dogs, but I think you could have something cool here with ~10 min podcasts...shoot you could probably still recording as you walk too. Just a thought...thanks man!
awwwwesme video, thank you!!!!!
Those dogs look happy 👍
Brian is just on a whole other level of being
Keep these I like these videos.👍
There is so much more to what you are saying. Treat everything as a matter of necessity. Don’t give yourself enough time to think...just move and deny yourself. Temperance and fortitude essential virtues.
Thank you for putting quotation marks around "easy" in your title card. Also, how'd you just make me fired up for supper sets and long carries? That's a superpower
Brian your the G.O.A.T
So much truth in this video! In Ironman there is a saying, anything is possible. Put in the work, suffer enough, and great things will happen.
I recommend farmers carries, esp on your tip toes, in all three ankle planes, for any video where someone mentions small calves. Pause ATG squats also help load the calves (4-6-8second pause)
Great tips my friend, I found my work capacity limiting me nowadays... Guess I'm gonna have to embrace the suck.
Thanks.
Brian's videos are like when you go to church and it's like the pastor is talking directly to you and your situation....you just sit there wondering how in the world does this guy know exactly what I need to hear, exactly when I need to hear it. Preach on brother!
I also cant believe you did that math right. Prouda you
Got this from George Leeman some years ago, talking about for example squats, boxsquats, or like the RDL, stuff like that where you take a weight you can comfortably do 7/8reps with but you go for 15-20 for a single set. Then once you get that 20 up the weight.
That shit did some crazy shit. Makes you mentaly strong as fuck to.
Could you rant on training for military (particularly SOF)? Important movements, endurance/strength/work capacity/mobility etc. and balancing them, maybe things tactical athletes tend to neglect?
Just Brian walking by the pond getting a casual delt pump holding the camera. 😁
Anyway Thanks for sharing this chunk of uncomfortable truth ! Been doing Giants sets because of you for a year now and if I don't I feel like I'm just slothing around ! 😅
only thing i would add is increase your work capacity SLOWLY. If you increase anything a little each workout or each week will add up to a ton over time.
Great video! Thanks! God bless you!!
Volume has been massive for my squat. My only problem is keeping clean form towards the end of my sets. I'm gonna push through it, but its annoying.
Thanks for another great video Brian.
I'll NEVER Forget the Arkansas FARM BOY that walked in to the Philly "Bailey's Holiday" gym,,, at 6'7",, all just Frame,,, and OUTLIFTED Everybody!!!! I
A lot of great tips here. Work capacity is perhaps the most important attribute for long term improvement.
I would still want to make a case for incorporating high quality sets, that is heavy sets (No more than 5-6 reps, no more than 0 reps left in the tank) where you make sure to have as good a possibility as possible to performe it to the very best of your ability.
This means _long_ rests between sets. You can do some mobility work, rehab, prehab stuff while resting, but the main idea is to rest for 5+ minutes. I have found that this has a great impact on my strength.
Moreover, it shows where I need to improve; if my core is starting to wobble in the last rep of an OHP, I need to work on it before I go heavier.
Do _not_ do these to often. It takes way longer for your body to recuperate than from mass training, and you can develop cns fatigue.
Hey Bryan nice video, do you a have any video on Training for the military
would love a ranting video on diet/ nutrition. Also is Loyal Brand coming out with new never sate T shirt? would honestly love a new color combination.
I never thought I’d ever want to go around and carry heavy things, but I do
