When our friends Rohan and Jordan asked for our help to trek an old leaky creaky stinky e30 across inland Australia we couldn't help ourselves but say yes. Unseen and cheap, this 40 year old 3 series had plenty of quirks that we'd discover along the way.

Brisbane every car is marked up 2k over every other city for the old bmw market.
@@moneyshifters Interesting. I say that because when looking at 4x4, on average for past 10 years Melbourne is more expensive than elsewhere
@@cyclemoto8744 hmm that figures. Brisbane used to export vast amounts of bmw motors and other driveline components overseas so lots of cars got wrecked. I think the bmw community is the same with less cars, so the prices go up. Just a theory. We sold the Melbourne car in the video for a fair bit more than we bought it. Covered the fuel then some.

I reckon there was a flat spot on the flywheel where it was grabbed by the starter gear and spinning the engine and flywheel over meant there was a good spot for the starter to hit
Good theory. Have since sold the car for a profit. I think a new starter did fix it but we don’t know.

8:00 that's a hotstart issue. Wait for car to cool down and shell start. Common e36 problem but mines currently in the shop trying to be fixed for the same thing! lol

As a former car dealer of 20 years nursing E36,s around and every conceivable 5, 7 and even a old 635 my all time favourite paddock basher that travelled telephone numbers was my old 318is E36 like terminator just wouldn't die

great video lads but it does peg the question: why would you go through Melbourne from Adelaide to get to Brisbane? Broken Hill or through Wagga Wagga would have saved heaps of time/kms...unless you already pre planned on picking up the other BMTrouble you
You’ve posed this like a conspiracy theory!! Plan was originally to go to Melbourne regardless of another purchase for two reasons: e30 would probably need work and there’s a big community there that would be happy to help out. So if we encountered an issue (and we did) we could get help. Large population centres help with that.
Other thing was we wanted to do some sightseeing. Bernats never been to melb and I’ve never been properly. We arrived too late to do any of that.
The beamers in Melbourne and Sydney and Adelaide are far cheaper than in brisbane. It was always on our mind to buy something. This deal just happened to be the target and have an owner susceptible to a lowball. Lucky since we didn’t have time to lowball another person.

good work boys, what gear did you try the roll start in? you'll almost never get it in first, need to be in second or higher.
I think Jordan didn’t know what he was doing lol. Once battery terminals were cleaned up and it had momentum we could push start it, but clutch didn’t feel too great so we didn’t want to rush push starting it home.
If the e30 was $500 it STILL a mega steal for that price. Lucky.
It was a wee bit more but it's Rohan and Jordan's car so we've decided not to release the exact price. The e36 318is was 2700. We sold it a few days after we arrived.

M5x is a bmw engine. It includes m50, m52, m54.
