  • A department store owner in Reading plays hardball with Drew and a country manor in West Sussex contains an antique relating to Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
    Drew Pritchard, the owner of one of the UK's largest decorative salvage yards, is always on the lookout for new items to replenish his stock, and he has no qualms about scouring the countryside for them. This series follows Drew as he searches for old and lost pieces of history throughout the world, including some opulent estates. But locating them is only half the battle; Drew must persuade the owner of each object to sell it to him for a good price, and then it's off to the scrapyard, where his team restores it to its former glory before selling it for profit.

      Honestly what a mean thing to say.
      If you read in-between the lines, you would be able to tell that they're obviously not making enough money to make a go of it any longer (comments about location). Sadly, these shops are no longer fashionable and are being replaced by mass outlets. I doubt he's closing down because he thinks it will be fun...

    As someone who grew up in a 1870’s home in America, when he said he know why these broken bit are important and they are important really touched my heart. I have grown up with antiques my whole life and feel very attached to many of them. They hold my family history in America. Too many people now days don’t even think about where they came from. It is so sad

    • @K78644

      hmm I always wondered if Americans can relate to these sort of shows as this stuff is very common here in Europe, I mean 1870s is pretty late compared to 1500-1700 but still a great period

      @@K78644 it is. I can not imagine having a home that is 4 or even 5 hundred years old. America is a young country. The age of mine Is one of the oldest in the area I live. I know in its day it was a grand home for small town Midwest.

    I think the store manager took one look at Drew & "T" & judged them as riff -raff. He probably would have responded to them better had they worn suits & ties like him.
    He said as an aside, "I'm not used to bargaining with customers" or something to that effect, as though it was common & beneath him. But they weren't "customers" at all ! They were Tradesmen that he may have seen as beneath him. He gave Drew hell & will pay when his items go on auction for a pittance. Pity Drew couldn't make the huge haul he had hoped for !

    • @team3383
      @team3383 Před 2 lety

      The store manager isn't stupid. He knows Drew makes a living out of selling stuff for 2 to 3 times the price he buy' them for. All it would have taken was for Drew to stop being so miserly because those shop desks etc will fly out the auction house.
      I really think the old man invited Drew down to give him a chance but realised that he was being ripped off.
      You don't run a family business for 140 years by selling to Drew ...

      Drew is interested in things that I consider barely Antique. Really old things even in good condition he passes by. Also, in doing up many pieces they become things he wouldn’t touch. He grooves on furniture that he is happy is all original then he takes the originality out of the . I’m thinking of a cabinet with drawers that also had doors covering the inside. He had the doors taken off and covered the area with modern molding and repainted it all.

    Drew seems to miss out on a large number of items simply because he'a fixated on always getting an immediate turnover. His ROI would actually be greater if he'd occasionally modify his approach. Refusing to purchase desirable items only because they might be in his inventory for more than a day is very shortsighted. He must be working with a very limited "war chest".

    If you took a good look at that carriage you can see how wonderful it must have been to be that rich when the rest of the world was walking or riding a horse. That was just a small two person carriage so it would have been a super luxury item like a hypercar is today. It would have been some young royal persons sports car, unreal.
