    @dookiekong007 Pilots are 'rated' on a particular aircraft type. These chaps are obviously rated on the MD80 but maybe (and most likely) the 737 as well (and perhaps smaller types like the ATR-72, considering it's KLM). They couldn't fly a 777 or Airbus because they aren't rated. Routes are on a bid system, with the more experienced pilots (or higher company positions) getting the more exotic routes. Jets are basically the same in terms of going up and down, but that's all!

    @AirSimming I that case, why is the DC-9/MD-80 series always classed as best airliner? TBO, I prefer the 757, but is usually 6/7th below the md-80 and 737!

  • @SGavin
    @SGavin Před 13 lety

    @jbraunger That gauge is reading in kilograms, not pounds. You can tell because of the gross weight reading below the total fuel weight, which is somewhere in the 475XX kilogram range. This aircraft weighs over 80,000 pounds when empty, so it would be impossible to have a 475XX pound gross weight. Based on this fact, the aircraft has around 5500 pounds of fuel on board.

  • @Republic3D
    @Republic3D Před 11 lety

    To be clear.. The MD-81/82/83 have a DC-9-81/82/83 type rating. The MD-87/88 have an MD-88 type rating. The MD-90-30/ER have their own type rating, even though the cockpit is in most cases similar to the MD-88. The Boeing 717-200 is in fact an MD-95 but with a more modern cockpit very similar to MD-11.

    @applejuice1324 I understand, it would certainly be nice to see this awesome bird with a little more stability. But MD didnt really think about that when they designed the DC-9 series lol.

  • @jbraunger
    @jbraunger Před 13 lety

    @CaptainBergs Yes, that's true, but he couldn't divert if something happened at the airport regarding visibility or a plane disabling the runway. It's commonplace not to allow less than 5000# of fuel on landing in that particular plane. They had half that!

      The sound is made when autopilot reaches the sudden altitude it is assigned to. Did you notice pilot kept changing the altitude when the sound was made. this shows that plane was descending.

    @dookiekong007 Pilots are 'rated' on a particular aircraft. These pilots are obviously rated on the MD80 but maybe also the 737, so they could fly either. However, they won't go near an Airbus or 777 until they have a rating on that type. As for routes, it's a bidding system and the most experienced pilots get the more exciting routes. Start at the bottom, in other words!

    What that buzzing sound in the background??

    • @md83driver5
      @md83driver5 Před 7 měsíci

      The buzzing in the background is to let the pilots know the stabilizer trim is running. The 80 does not have a trim wheel like the Boeing aircraft, there is no visual indication of trim movement except for the little pointer on the left hand side of the console, when your busy one normally do not look down there. The horn is the only way you know you have a runaway trim.
