- This song will be forever special to us as we learned it for our grandpa's funeral a few years ago. There are so many people who have championed our music and cheered us on that are no longer with us. It is such an encouragement to know that we will see them again on the "Far Side Banks of Jordan."
Fun fact: Ellen is using her husband Michael's guitar in this song!

I lost my 3 toddler children to a house fire in 2010 lost my father in 2020 and now my mother in 2022.

Your toddler children are FOR SURE waiting over the Jordan River in heaven! Jesus Himself said that children are of the Kingdom of God. Little children are watched over by angels. Their angels are always before the face of God, the Father. So, they told God about your toddler children in the house fire. Why did God allow this terrible thing? I don't know... What I do know, is that their guarding angels brought each of their souls to heaven. They are save, forever by and with Jesus. Stick to your faith in Jesus, one sweet day you will meet them again! My wife is there with her. This song had the same effect on me.
My son, Andy, passed away on February 28, 2021. He was only 34. A day or two later I heard this song for the first time. It was moving to think of both of his grandfathers, whom he loved so dear, wading in to greet him and taking him to see Jesus. I'm not sure the idea of the song is biblically accurate, but I know they are all there together with loved ones already passed, including his infant sibling. I always expected that I would get to meet that baby first, but Andy hurried on ahead of me.🥲 I praise God that I will see them again in paradise. ❤️

My son was born on February 28 and I hope he’ll be waiting for me
I recently lost my wife and this song touched me to the depths of my soul.
Made me think of my wife of 45 years that passed away in April 2020. So looking forward to seeing her again one day in paradise.
I was working with my dad one day in his business painting houses, when he threw out the random comment, "When I die don't ask God to raise me from the dead." When I asked, somewhat indignantly, "Why not!?" He answered, "Cause He might do it and then I'd be mad at having to wait longer for heaven." When he passed, I looked at his mortal shell laying on that ER bed and just said goodbye.

The beautiful voice of Ellen, so nice clear and strong. Her diction is perfect and every word she sings is so clear and pure.
Sung beautifully by people who believe in the truth they sing. Best version I have heard (sorry Jimmy Fortune, although yours is also superb and sung with a heart for God as well). My mother in law passed yesterday, a strong believer in the Christian faith, and I can imagine her singing this to her husband from Heaven, where she now rests. The lead singer in this sounds a lot like my own daughter, who also sings lead for worship in a major church.
A great song sung by a family who not only harmonizes so well together but who also brings some harmony to this crazy world we live in.

Even though I know there will be no marriage in heaven except that of Christ and his bride, I hope that I will at least recognize my lifetime wife in Glory one day and have a fond feeling toward her. This is a great love song and always makes me love my wife more.

Thank you so much for this today. I was just watching my oldest sister's funeral. Between the bad weather and Covid19, I couldn't be there in person. The Church played Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring for a prelude. That had been her wedding March in '61. Farside Banks of Jordan was perfect for me after the funeral.
By the way, I've never heard a Bluegrass version of "Jesu"

There is a steam room I like to go to, built off the side of a mountain in a fancy spa. When I'm alone in there I sing this song every time! With the natural echo, I can sing pretty quietly and it comes out booming. I end up spending hours in there singing The Petersens :)

Ellen hits new highs of nuanced voice control with every new song. But special kudos to Katie for that low harmonizing fiddle and Matt's vocals. You don't really even notice they are there till you listen, and then wow. Mama bringing it home on bass.
My mother passed away in my presence on Jan. 11, and a memorial service is planned for this summer. Since several people replied to memorial Facebook posts by describing her as one of the kindest people they ever met, I sense she's now serving on the welcoming committee for newcomers to the far side banks of Jordan.

I gave a like because of good singing and playing. It's a pleasant song but I'm not religious. One can like religious music even if not religious eg The Messiah. Only been to one live performance so far. That was in Glasgow many years ago.

Not everyone thinks of thumbs up/down the same way. It often isn't even a criticism of the band or song, just expressing a preference of certain music over another, or even how it hits them in the moment. As beautiful and meaningful as this song is and how much I love it now, it would have been painful for me to listen to after my mom died and with my dad in his diminished mental capacity missing her. I don't do a thumbs down, but that's me. But I couldn't have listened to it either. Now I can picture their joy at being together in heaven instead of the sadness of being separated.

What a lovely intro on guitar!! Great vocal arrangements and execution as well! Also, I liked the smooth approach to the rhythm playing on this song-didn’t notice anyone chopping, instead cross-picking on guitar/mando with long tones on fiddle/dobro. It created a very smooth bed for the vocals. Very effective. One of my favorites to date, and that is saying a lot. And of course Julianne telling riddles with her facial expressions!!! I give up!😀
