  • 633 Amps supremo Cliff Brown popped by and joined me for a quick look at the Universal Audio Ox Box used with his fantastic Drive King amp.
We used no pedals of any kind just onboard reverb and drive.
If you want to hear more of the Ox Box from me, please check out my solo guitar version of ‘Hard Times Comes Again No More’ on this channel - it’s on the video with a lovely A Capella version by Patti Revell Jones.

Cab still sounds better! But, not bad……

Definitely! There are quite a few options within the Ox app - EQ, speaker sims, etc. I think it's worth finessing it but it can't really match up. I think most people do a bit of work on the tone after recording....

@@AndyGJones Do you think the dynamics & oomph of the cab can be dialed in?

@@johncruz9357 I think you can get a really good sound but I think it needs finessing. I noticed that my Cornell 45/50 head (JTM45 kind of thing) sounds really good with a 4x12 or 2x12 sim in the OX but some of my other amps aren't quite as good. My 1967 Deluxe Reverb is very good thought the OX but nowhere near as dynamic as through its own speaker. I think the OX is a very good tool, possibly even an essential tool if you record a lot but it's worth experiment with outboard gear to bring as much life to it as possible. IMHO if you can't get feedback from the speaker, there's something missing! One thing I must say is that the video was done in a hurry as my buddy Cliff was passing by and I hadn't had the OX for very long. The effects in the OX app are powerful - I need to do experiment more with it. At some point I'll try and do a more considered video...
