  • The Self Working Card Trick That Fooled Penn and Teller.
Chris Capehart performed two self working card tricks on Penn and Teller Fool Us.
This is my interpretation of one of those tricks, along with a tutorial so you can learn this card trick.
@CrashMagic - The channel for great videos on card magic. The video content shows how to perform card tricks that will impress, and tutorials on how these tricks can easily be learnt.

The false cuts were amazing, I slowed it down to watch how you did that.

Love your tutorials and although it was confusing counting backwards I finally rewatched your tutorial and was able to get it right. Wonderful one! Thank you

When I saw this trick on Penn & Teller, I couldn't believe that it fooled them because it is obvious that counting down from ten then back up again is going to deal the tenth card.

11th (because you count the number twice, eg "10,9,8 stop, ok 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8"). But yes, agree it feels obvious.

Yes, this really does seem obvious and I'm surprised by some of the praise in the rest of the comments.

I love performing this one. Ive learned a lot on this channel!
for this trick - I added one little twist that people may find helpful… After your false cuts and you are next going to search for the randomly placed queens - once you push the four aces over with the cards facing you go ahead and tip the deck down sort of casually so the spectator can actually see the faces of the cards as you're ripping through them looking for the queens - of course be sure to make the four aces appear as just one ace on top of a little batch of cards… as you scroll through There's no way that they can tell that there's a set up and it makes a cards look really random.

i'm honestly not a fan of tricks that require a lot of dealing and counting for fear of boring the spectator. (having no plot only makes it worse, imo) i much prefer tricks that have stories, or play out as a game.
but this is one trick i'd absolutely show to any 'math' guy. because rather than being bored, he'll pay close attention and be very interested in the dealing and counting. and best is that he/she will be blown away and unable to solve it.
ps: overkill by paul harris is another (much simpler) self worker that will blow normies away. i'd love to see your interpretation of it someday.
as a lifetime amateur, but now suffering debilitating arthritis, your channel is a godsend. thanks for all your great tutorials.

Any "math" guy worth his salt will get how it works after thinking about it. You're always dealing the exact same number of cards when you count backwards and then forwards. It's always 11-number on the side and then number -2 and King on the pile then Jack, so you're always counting 11-number+number -2 = 9 cards before King and Jack.
      Still a nice trick though.

@@boghag totally agree. It's probably the only trick I've ever been able to immediately work out, that Penn and Teller haven't 🙂

@@crashmagic Penn and Teller have been fooled a couple of times by self-working tricks. My theory is they assume all card tricks rely on sleight of hand, so when they guess the trick they're trying to figure out what sleight was used, and "none" doesn't occur to them.
I mean, the countdown + count up always = 11 thing feels really obvious if you think about the trick that way, but it seems like they just don't think about it.
