  • On this Live Open Daily, I bring in my friend ‪@ShoFuturistic‬ to discuss the upcoming headset from Samsung & Google and where it fits in the overall XR ecosystem with Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, Pico, HTC, and others.
    Apologies for missing a few days. I fell ill over the weekend and needed some time to recover.

    Great podcast with @shoFuturistic. I like this format. Good intelligent chat, no stupid open mouthed thumbnails. Keep it up fellas

      I always think about making thumbs like that, then I actually shoot those photos and nope out. Bad for the algorithm, but gotta stay true to myself.
      Sho will be a regular moving forward. Not every pod, but semi-frequently.

    You made some great points. People would feel the same about smartphones as they do about VR if smartphones weren't primarily communication devices. For VR to gain more adoption, the industry should highlight how great it can be for watching movies or live sports with friends in apps like BigscreenVR. If headsets were more comfortable and the social uses of VR were emphasized, it would become much more popular. Just like smartphones, if all they did was play videos, games, and check calendars, it would be hard to get people to pay $1,000 or more for them.

      Yes and I feel like Apple's marketing of the Vision Pro got the ball rolling with that. I'm presuming Samsung will follow suit. Meta's done a poor job marketing that side of it, arguably because the resolution & software (don't get me started on the old Netflix app) wasn't up to snuff yet.

      @@liveopenmike If I were Meta I would try to get this over by partnering with a popular TV show. Maybe the main character could attend psychiatrist sessions in VR. Seeing that could introduce a lot of people to the concept of having a shared experience in VR.

      All communications including phone calls, email, texting with social media and T.V. and movies and entertainment in general will be done in a V.R. headset environment in the near future if it hasn't done so already.
      V.R. OEM's need to have built in SIM card capabilities like a cellphone with service plans like a cellphone.
      The days that people spend $ 10,000 - 100,000 for a full fledged home theater room are coming to a slow end since people can buy 3 or 4 good quality V.R. Headsets for the price of a $ 10,000 Home Theater room.

    The quest 2 wont be able to play all quest games like for example the batman that will be out soon.

      Yup, covered that in a previous pod. The 3S exists almost solely to retire the Quest 2.

      Sho sold me on them during this talk, not gonna lie. I'm very skeptical of Google's consistency in this general space (phones and laptops aside).

    • @onikaze8445
      @onikaze8445 Před měsícem +2

      @@liveopenmike yeah the talk didn't convince me. I have zero faith in google to stick to a project. of course it depends on specs and package at launch. oh and ABSOLUTE ZERO faith, and interest for that matter, for a stadia style cloud solution. No not disruptive.

    Im not that excited about it unless its decked out and able to do real 4k per eye with eye tracking half body tracking like meta has nothing is very exciting atm

    • @liveopenmike
      @liveopenmike  Před měsícem +1

      I'm doubtful on the body tracking bit. If this is meant to be an Apple Vision Pro competitor moreso than a Quest competitor, it'll be more designed for media consumptiong (i.e. sitting down) instead of active gaming. Eye tracking I think is a guarantee for all future headsets at this point.
