How Many CALORIES Can I Burn in 1 HOUR On My RACING SIMULATOR?

  • I set out to find out how many calories I can burn in about 1 hour on my simulator. I run a pretty high force feedback and brake pressure setting, so it may be more physical than most people's setups, but I think we found an interesting correlation to between heartrate and concentration in this video. Was the final calorie total suprising to you? Definitely let me know your thoughts down in the comments!!

    Just an FYI, the calorie measurements were taken via the Polar App (heart rate monitor) using the Car Racing preset (yes it has a car racing preset lol). It’s what I use for karting and IRL stuff so I can’t speak to the accuracy of it in terms of calories. I found it interesting nonetheless!

      hey Can you tell me how you calculated the pulse in calorine? your videos are really cool and there because of the accident, I think that on the one hand it would have been your fault because you just drove too aggressively in the corner. Heart rate is not an accurate estimate of calories burned, especially when dealing with mental instead of physical stress. An out of shape person will get a very high heart rate from even climbing the stairs, while not burning that much energy. An athlete with good conditioning will be able to exert great force and burn lots of calories while keeping their heart rate fairly low.

I actually have to turn it off after a while of intense effort simply because I get irritated for no good reason. I often wonder whether a high heartrate leads me to this state. Whenever I play sports, I'm the same. It's really frustrating, because I'm more likely to quit something in rage than try and master it with practice. 1. Is high heart rate correlate to calorie burned?
    2. Putting question above to the side, how much different would it be if it was done with something entry level like basic G29 set or T150 Pro set or even the PXN V10? Because I doubt they'll do as much as a high end setup like yours.

    • @CameronDasRacing
      @CameronDasRacing  Před rokem +3

      I’ve been wondering this myself. A quick google search resulted in this:
      “A heart rate monitor is one of the best ways to measure your calorie burn. Your heart rate indicates how much effort it takes for you to do a certain activity, and that effort determines the calories you burn. If a heart rate monitor indicates your calorie burn, it’s more likely to be accurate than the average activity tracker because it’s taken your specific heart rate in to account.” -MD Anderson Cancer Center
      I will be doing a deeper dive in my next video 🤙

    • @firacingast
      @firacingast Před rokem +2

      @@CameronDasRacing Definitely not an accurate measure of caloric burn. There's no chance you burned 400 calories in a race. Heart rate is a good indicator of calories burned, but it's not 1:1 for every activity. It's why any smart watch will have different options for different workouts. Unfortunately, the amount of calories burned by sim racing is unknown, but I would guarantee that it's not 400. I'd bet it's maybe 1/2 of that, if I'm being generous. 400 cals only slightly less than you'd burn doing a moderate swim for an hour straight and is over half of what you'd burn running for 1 hour straight. But we all know both swimming and running for an hour take far, far more effort than sim racing for an hour straight.
      I love sim racing, and I do think it is probably one of the healthier forms of gaming (especially with a DD wheel and high force pedals), but I also like fitness and I don't think the numbers in the video are correct.

    Self-induced panic/stress is also creating unforced errors and rise in heart rate

    If your side by side with someone with any overlap, you leave a lane. Full stop.
    If you can release the brake, and complete the pass before the exit, exit into his lane, with no contact, that is fair.
    But you can't "release the brake", rush the apex, say you're "ahead at the apex", and exit the corner and into his lane, and thus car, and then claim that it's not your fault for contact.
    Just think, if you had left a lane on exit, you would be side by side down the next straight, and have the inside for the last corner, and would complete the pass cleanly.
    Instead, you keep the thinking that a pass is made by half passing a car on the inside, and claiming it's your corner. And until you fix that mindset, your SR will forever reflect that fact.
    :/

    You have to leave space on the outside until you're clear of the other car, you don't "own" the corner just because you're further ahead. It's not F1.

      @Saxe_AXRL Před rokem

      it is true but i’d say it’s a racing incident purely because by the point of the apex turning in he’s infront and has control. so he’s actually left room on the outside there but the other guy has turned in on him. So aggressive move and just a small driving error and that’s what happened so i’d personally say racing incident

    in simracing 14:14 not clear overtake and, mostly, immediately give position back. IRL "rules" about my corner after apex, little bit different compare to sim.
    In simracing almost always - overlap(virtual spotter say clear or 2wide)=keep place for other car. On high skill you can predict clear on exit on braking/turn in on virtual mirror.
    IRL - your apex=your corner=your exit(other car backoff/lift) cuz almost IMPOSSIBLE control car in your base or not(for lead car)/no spotter/ no info. This rule have safety reason, not crash in 2wide in corners/exits.
    In sim this is not needed. No safety, not moneycrash =)

    You should read research from the McGill physiology studies in F1 racers. Yes, the heart rate increase is mostly from adrenaline. No, the caloric calculation is not accurate because caloric burn rates calculated from heart rate are based off off running or cycling, where muscles are burning energy. Cyclists racing in sprints can frequently exceed max heart rate because of the muscle burn and adrenaline.

    IMO, you were right to give up the position. I think it was a seriously late divebomb, and I'll bet the only reason you were able to get by is because he saw you sending it and backed off to avoid a wreck. I seriously doubt that you would have made that corner if you hadn't used his car to help you slow down and turn. That corner is tighter than it looks and the camber falls away on exit. That kind of "back off or we all die" driving is what drags sim racing down, IMO. You never would have tried a move like that IRL, so that right there tells you it was a bad decision. You had the straight line speed, so you could have waiting a corner or two and passed him cleanly. I was actually happy to see you give up the position because I think sim racing needs more good sportsmanship like that. We're all there to have fun and test our skills, not to play chicken. Any idiot can do that.
    Anyway, I don't mean to sound like I'm scolding you or whatever. I really enjoyed the video. I mostly race F3 and F4 so I'm looking forward to more of your content. Cheers!

      Maybe overtime, but I think I proved on the video that concentration is more of a correlation to bear rate than physical effort (at least in sim racing). Maybe 100% FFB is a different story though, so I might give it a try.
