What's your favorite AZ? Let me know which guitar should be reviewed next!!
A tone test with Dimarzios now would be great!
I have an AZ 2204, I needed an HSS to go with my Les Pauli and Bryan Moore C90P. I was looking more for a modern design over vintage
I'm thinking on buying AZ242BC DET. The thing is the neck feels not like some C shape but more like U shap. It feels strange.
I more like to play on my Les Paul or on the super wizards.
You didn't mention about the tremolo - is it more or less stable than at your Prestige model?
I have a seafoam prestige strat. It's nice, but my heart still goes to an ESP m-ii deluxe model.
Hoping to either get an Ibanez 7 string or a Vola Vasti 7 string model next.
@@ernest6831 It's essentially the same trem but the base is thinner than the Prestige, steel vs titanium saddles. It still has trem issues, but I was heavily comparing the design to all the Edge trems on my guitars on the previous review. For it's initial design, it's pretty good but I wouldn't say 100% stable.
A charvel dk24 and an az242 comparison would be good, there's barely any comparison videos about. 🤘👍
Man I really want this guitar (again). I'm looking at the current Ibanez catalog and the new burl top premium that they have just doesn't work well with the black headstock and silver hardware. Wish this was still in production; it looks way better.
All going well I will be picking one of these up tomorrow. Can't bloody wait
Just bought myself a 242 premium in seafoam green. Should arrive with me next week. I can't wait!
Mine comes in tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. The tops are insanely gorgeous on these.
That Ibanez sounds really good and looks amazing to boot!
Nice review, you got a really dark fretboard :) Got myself an AZ 226 bkf today. I would've preferred this gloss finish, but I have few HH 24 fretters already. Matte black is kinda gorgeous, but I know already it won't age well. Btw, I'm very impressed with the fretwork too.. surprised even. Can't find anything to complain really. Very nice rounding and steady quality. AZ Premiums have gone better? I tried two different premiums, and frets were really nice in both.
The XSeries i have, the tremolo arms also are the same. Just push em in. I recently came up on a 7/10 Ibanez Musician at a yard sale a few months ago. Getting her fixed right now. Keep it bro. See Ya with BBB again soon. 🤘
I love dimarzio pickups.. but also love the different flavor those seymour duncan and that one the reason why I choose the 242 besides the the obvious beautiful look of the that guitar.👍🏼
Nice review! Can you make a comparison video between the az series and the genesis series?
That might be the first demo of all 10 pickups positions I've seen. I guess not many official demos do them cause they don't wanna show just how similar they really are... maybe? Or can't quite figure out quite WHAT they're for. Like "ok great that we have so many... but why?" Thanks for taking the time.
Like my Herman Li EGEN18 has 9 and there are a couple I almost never touch since they're similar and I have my preference and being an HSH I feel like even those might be more varied than some of the ones here. But you made them all sound great.
You can improve the tuning instability with some silicone based grease on the nut and saddles where the strings rest. A tiny amount applied with a toothpick goes a long way. Use sparingly. You don’t need much.
Great review!
Little killer instinct melody at the beginning, great
Your AZ has such a dark fretboard! It almost looks like rosewood 😅 Good video regardless, I’m happy you found the dark roast to be your preference though.
Very comprehensive review! I see exact differences you mentioned between my HSS prestige VS. Premium.
-Fret work specially fret beveling is much nicer in Premium. Fret ends are also nice in prestige model but there is almost no beveling...
-Neck; feel thinner on premium and it has a kinda satin finish on it. Prestige is chunkier and feel similar to an unfinished neck which I prefer.
Thanks for the nice review
So the fret work is better on the made in Indonesia?
@@zennytj I would say it depends on your taste. Fret ends in Premium feel smoother on hands but it has higher string derailing (specially on high E). In general both are good.
@@soheil9610 thanks for the info, I've just ordered one of the new premiums and its gonna be here at the end of feb. So I'm just watching ALOT I of videos on az's haha
@@zennytj Nice! I did same and still checking a lot of videos...hehe. I got mine second-hand but still is a very good one. specifications of AZ-Premium are very good, given their price. Good luck and have a lot of fun playing your new guitar!
@@soheil9610 will do man!
Great review! Would you say the Wilkinson locking saddles improve(d) the tuning stability significantly?
I would say it's worth the investment for sure!
Nice vid!
This was an awsome review but can you lease review the hsh model with dimarzios.🙏
Nice!!!! Looking axe!
Hey which pedal(s) did you have plugged in? Sounded freaking amazing btw. I'm definitely getting one in the next two weeks. Thanks for the review, it was inspiring.
All the tones were directly connected/ recorded through the Axe Fx III. Thank you!!
Thanks to you, I'm inclining to this guitar(that the AZ2404), just wondering what it would sound with Dimarzios??? Can you to a video about that?? Cheers from Croatia!
Definitely check out my other two reviews on the AZ Prestige and MSM AZ as I used DiMarzio's in both vids! I'll try to make more sound demos with them!
Agree, I think the pickups are a little thin sounding. ( lifeless is a better word )
Thanks man, very comprehensive. Stupid question perhaps, but mind sharing how painful it is to restring and set up this guitar. Esp with the tremolo bar. Is it necessary to know how to do it oneself.
I'd say it's a easy as restringing a standard strat, and easier than a floyd rose for sure.
@@IbanezGuy88 Ok, thanks. It’s a floating tremolo right.
Hi, thanks for the detailed review. Which Dimarzios do u prefer? HH guitar.
Currently like the PAF Master set, and the new Petrucci Dreamcatch and Rainmaker set :)
@@IbanezGuy88 Thank u
Woah that green one on the stand to your side, is that a custom shop AZ? 😍😍
Unfortunately it's not haha. It's the Prestige 2402 in Seafoam, color varies depending on video/photo.
Kiko Loureiro has one of those, check out his youtube channel he uploads some cool videos.
Do the Wilkinson saddles fit perfectly on the stock Gotoh bridge? Did you add them to the Prestige too?
Absolutely!
@@IbanezGuy88 now that the prestige has the wilkinson, has it finally met your original expectations?
is the bridge floating or can it be decked out to the body for sustain sacrificing upwards tremelo?
It's floating, not as much as a floyd but you can technically tighten the springs so it makes the trem bottom out from the back. I'm not sure how much more sustain you'll receive doing that compared to a hard tail, etc.
Which alter switch position is which which setting? Mine has the switch turned 90* to what it normally is. How can I tell which position its in?
If the switch moved, you can test it by touching the top pickup poles of the humbuckers with a flat screwdriver or something metallic that doesn't have sharp edges.
One of the positions shouldn't have as strong of a signal, and that will help you identify the alter switch being activated. Hope that helps!
How does compare this AZ premium with the Charvel dk24 SSS you reviewed recently?
I love both, but I feel the Charvel neck is a nicer profile if you like more of the Wizard neck profile!
Bought this guitar based on your view, its awesome but needs breaking in and having tuning issues.
Yeah it definitely takes some time getting used to this instrument. But when you understand it's capabilities, it's an awesome guitar!
How thick is Poplar Burl Top? Is it just Veneer or actual Thick Wood?Thank You
The burl is a veneer, but still looks nice!
When you look pull the whammy bar why is it going out of tune... If its like this everytime then how we gonna play during gigs ??? Pls advice...
I haven't seen a way for it to be 100% in tune during whammy use. If I do pull up dives, I usually dive down a bit and check tuning real quick between songs. Other alternatives is a double locking guitar.
Beautiful guitar. How do you afford all this gear? Most of the guitars you have are super expensive
Tons of patience finding great deals online haha and a full time job/ band :)
How's the gold plated on the tremolo? Will it fade??
Definitely. Ibanez Gold hardware (even the high end Edge & Lo Pro models) tarnish/fade/corrode really easily. Don't polish it with anything harsher than bably unicorn fluff or your asking for trouble... ;-P
What are you using to hang those guitars above your PC?
Bought from Amazon! They're guitar wall slat hangers, this one can fit about 8 RG's without a lot of clutter and the two on the sides are just simple ProLine hangers from Guitar Center :)
i just got the same guitar, it look so beatiful and i really dont know what to think about sounds i got , i played it whole day long, cant argue with distortion or crunchy sounds also good clean tones like tele or strat style spanky slaps.. , but when i go for some clean arpeggios suddenly gets too bright that i dont wanna hear it , i m between returning or keeping it..
Yeah for me I feel like I'm really fighting the pickups for sure. I'll probably do a follow up with a new set of pickups in it, but I hope you figure out whether you'll keep or swap it!
Thats a nice input, I cant decide between AZ2402 and AZ242... That pointy clean sound is bugging me, and now you have mentioned it also...
@@IbanezGuy88 what do you think about the sound dif between premium and prestige , i think there is only clean sound dif between these two but i m not sure if its worth 1k$ more
@@thelastcat8406 Yeah if anything, just snag a Premium and put in some nicer pickups of choice :)
@@IbanezGuy88 Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. There is a noticeable difference in clean sounds, could it be a different wirings of pickups (as far as I know they are the same), or Basswood vs Alder(as you pointed out). Im wondering what would be the difference between AZ2402 and AZ242 with Dimarzios, because 2402 sounds BEASTLy in your last video.
Can you show us your 770DX? I have the 3770DX reissue
Sounds like a fun idea, I have 4 770DX's!!
you remind me of Remy!
wow that's SO DARK! The headstock looks like it's a different color and the board is a totally other wood
Ugh I wish this was a Prestige
Howzit from Hawaii" don't know if it's the setup or guitar
but it sounds hollow more than woody, maybe my ear ?
Aloha ...
Is it me or 242 sounds less rounded and pointy than 2042?
Possibly the alder body/ basswood?
@@IbanezGuy88 Yeah, I guess so.. btw love your reviews! Are there any other guitars you would recommend in the price range of AZ2402?
w i d e v i e w
Shot with the new Sony 20mm wide angle :D
"people were saying it's not a review if you change the pickups right away" well it wouldn't be a DEMO, yeah... and it wouldn't be a good review if he was trying to tell us whether the guitar sounded good or not. But he wasn't; he didn't talk about that at all. He talked about the specs and their significance.
annoying cartoons in the back ground, nobody knows how the guitar as an instrument resonate, how the wood sound because the only sound was with distortion
