    unlike a lot of Marvel's heros being turned into legacy heros I like x-23 taking over as Wolverine. The difference being that she has been established for a while and her inheritance of the role makes complete sense.

      It's just like Bucky Cap, or Scott Lang ant-man, it is the sort of development that prevents stagnation. Ms. Marvel, at least, is pretty great on its own merits for the others.

      I like Miles, mostly because he was almost forced to become Spidey out of necessity, and he learned as he went along. So it almost didn't feel like a replacement, but a different adaptation. He's a much better character now though after the Spider-Verse and Insomniac games helped flesh him out more

      I'm not mad about either, but I think she should just be her own character. With her own book; I don't like the current trend Marvel has going. In where they are making some of their most popular and well established characters female or another race or sometimes both. They want to make new female characters or whatever, write them strong enough to stand on their own instead of them taking the place of a character that already does. What they are doing now seems forced like they are just trying to please a very small but vocal minority.

    • @dariquewarren
      @dariquewarren Před 8 lety +3

      +Laughing Man I see your point but it's really hard to create characters that last if they're not connected to the universe intimately. I feel like it's partly fan service but also partly an attempt to get you to pay attention to the new character as they come the shadow of someone established into their own.
      on the note of females and minority characters in comics, it really hasn't been done often or well so I'm willing to let them try a bunch of things or until something sticks. no offense to Caucasians but the world has been shown alot through their eyes and it's long past time for comics to take diversity seriously. it just makes for more story potential. ex. jane foster thor. her story is an interesting piece of Thor lore because her human form is literally dying. Donald Blake's only real setback was a limp which is probably why they never told many Donald stories.
      sorry for the paragraphs, I just love to put my nerdy two cents in with comments like yours

      darique warren Honestly, as long as legacy or replacement characters are done tastefully and with good thought, I like them better then the decade old classics. There has been a few stumbles in the way some characters have been introduced, but to me they have been mostly successes, actually.
      I don't care about the race or gender of a character as long as they are consistent and reasonably plausible. Laura has been rocking the new wolverine comic, imo. Great.

    I love wolverine. Logan cannot be replaced as wolverine any more than Peter Parker can as Spider-Man. When referring to either one it is necessary to delineate which one you are talking about because they are unique characters and their specific personalities make the character.
    All that being said I fully approve of x-23 taking on the mantle of wolverine including his costume. She isn't Logan. They share similar traits but she is a distinct individual and I see her taking on the mantle as an homage (as well as a way for marvel to continue to profit from Logan's popularity). I would like to see her slowly start changing his costume to better suit her own personality as she lets him go and becomes her own person not living in his shadow.

    It gets pretty annoying to go through comments and see how a lot of people react to characters they don't read anyways. "make new characters" gets tiring when it happens constantly anyways.
    Either way, X-23 is a really enjoyable character to read, she deserves this mantle considering she really is a daughter to Logan when it comes down to it. That and well, Daken is a douche.

      maccajoe You say you've been reading for a long time, but if you say that it makes it seem like you only skim and don't really read much. Because again, we get tons of new characters constantly, from the waves after the initiative, from the heroic age, from post shattered heroes, from Avengers World, Infinity/terrigen mist stuff, it goes on.
      Riri hasn't really been fleshed out yet, her stuff is in the fall so one can't truly have a full opinion on her when it comes to the narrative. But I guess one could be scummy and bring up her race as many already have.

    I like X-23 as the new wolverine! I think it's really refreshing and gives a whole new perspective to Wolverine by turning it into mantel carried on by his child of sorts, also the female perspective, in my opinion, is a very insightful addition to the iconic character that can create an additional dynamic to the title.

    I really like X-23 as Wolverine. Logan's whole shtick got played out anyway, "am I good? am I evil? I'm a monster! JEAN!!". I've followed X-23 from the beginning and one can only hope she continues on the "Harley Quin-esk" path she's going down.

    This is for the angry portion of the comment section, but I hope Rob sees this comment and makes a video about it discussing why Wolverine/Logan' departure was necessary, I'd love to watch that. So many people in the comment section talk as if they know why Logan was killed off, and Laura picked up the mantle. Here's a bit of insight for you. It was not because of a politically correct agenda made to push X-23 on us. It was a creative concern over at Marvel Comics. Logan/Wolverine as a character suffered from overexposure. Which ended up damaging him as a character all the while causing continuity issues.
    Everyone was writing Wolverine, he was in every book, even the one's that he had no reason to be in. Everyone who wrote him had their own version and their own beliefs as to where he should go and how he should develop, and none of the editors were talking to each other about their own changes to him. Logan was pulled in so many different directions. One comic saw him trying to be a school teacher and be a good example to his students, the other saw him wanting to avoid things like teaching students all the while being a stone cold killer. In one comic we had Logan patch things up with Cyclops, only for another comic to have the both of them antagonistic towards each other, and split the school over an ideological difference.
    All this happening at the same damn time MADE NO SENSE. Logan had no similar tone or consistency, he was whatever any writer wanted him to be just to shoehorn him into a storyline. Marvel Comics noticed this and decided to shelve the character for the time being. Killing him SAVED HIM. Wolverine is my favorite comic book character of all time, and to put that into perspective. There's only 4 that I like. How could any true fan of Wolverine ever miss the bullshit that we were getting is beyond me. He was put in certain comic runs just to get his ass kicked by people that realistically shouldn't have been able to touch him. All in an attempt to make whoever he was brought up against popular.
    Wolverine is a century old war vet who has been in more wars than Captain America, he's a master samurai, master ninja, master of almost all forms of martial arts, has fast enough reflexes to impress Peter Parker, DareDevil level enhanced senses and is confirmed to be a genius by Forge. Backed by the fact that at one point, Logan is able to outsmart both Doctor Doom and Arcade. But no. All we got in recent years was pop claws + battle cry + bum rush + lose = Wolverine. Da fuck? Thats not how he is supposed to act. He's not the type of idiot who would do something like that, but that's how the recent media sells him! He'll be back when Marvel Comics really needs him. Let him stay dead for now, until they can figure out how to properly tackle the character with respect. Old Man Logan and Laura are a good dynamic. And as for making new characters. Marvel put a ban on the creation of any new mutant characters, but thats a different topic.

    • @XxiicEBoiixX
      @XxiicEBoiixX Před 8 lety +6

      +BigBlackGWAR Movie rights are just one of the other lesser factors. Which I doubt they care that much about when it comes to Wolverine/Logan the singular character in the comic book space considering the fact that Logan is still around in the form of Old Man Logan. Otherwise they would've stopped Old Man Logan and X-23 long ago, and shit even Deadpool because he's making money for Fox now so that whole notion is flawed. Now if you mentioned the X-men as a whole. Then I would have to agree. Marvel is playing the long game for the X-men. And no. 20th century Fox doesn't get anything from the toy's, comics or video games sold. Marvel fully owns all of those rights. They simply don't want to give Fox free promotion for their live action movies (Which Fox does own the rights to). But they are not completely stupid so sometimes they can be reasoned with so there's that. However you in no way presented anything that can refute what I said, and you're coming at me not even knowing that it's Fox who has the Fantasic Four film rights, not Universal. You don't have your facts straight, yet you're trying to tell me that I am wrong? Try again though. Until then, toodles!

    • @Rhennius
      @Rhennius Před 8 lety +2

      Here's the fault in your logic, though: Fox also owns X-23. Fox owns licensing rights to EVERY SINGLE MUTANT. The writers are currently forbidden from creating new mutant characters BECAUSE Fox will own the license to them. Marvel didn't exactly reacquire the rights to Spider-Man either, they worked out a deal with Sony Pictures to allow Spider-Man to appear in the MCU movies.

    • @XxiicEBoiixX
      @XxiicEBoiixX Před 8 lety +1

      @stefan kovacevic Yep I agree. The film rights issue is hurting the X-men as a group in the comics. It's so meta combined with what the X-men stand for too. Marvel literally isn't treating mutants equally in the comics. It's crazy when you think about it.

      @XxiicEBoiixX Před 8 lety +1

      +Nolan Corbin Exactly! I'm trying to figure out where BigBlackGWAR is coming from. It's like people don't want to just do research on this before they say something. Or if they do say something they tell you you're wrong and walk away, without giving any explaination. We're all a part of the comic book fandom here. If you have the opportunity to enlighten someone else then do it. Don't leave them ignorant. That's just being an asshole lol.

    • @nimlil
      @nimlil Před 8 lety +7

      XxiicEBoiixX you pretty much summed it up. People dont realize he is one of the very best hand to hand combatants in the Marvel universe with some of the best singular tactical thinking. Becoming one of the most popular characters made him become one of the most overused characters and polluted the character itself. When he comes back, proper usage with limited exposure would probably restore the popularity he once had. Mean, gruff, nasty, a deadly weapon but with a code of honour. A Loner yet one who looks after those he does care about. I like X 23 but there is no one that does Wolverine like Logan does Wolverine. Its like replacing Clint Eastwood.

    I kinda like the idea of X-23 being the new Wolverine, but at the same time i'd almost like to see Logan come back but in a much different light, one where hes trying to avoid these major conflicts, changes his name, avoiding joining up with the x-men or avengers or any of them, and instead working underground, trying to avoid letting anyone know hes still alive, trying to be something new and trying to erase himself, then slowly turning into the Old man logan type. I don't think it would work super well as a stand alone series, but it might, and they could just have him return in many years and explain that is what he's been doing all these years/months (depending on when they bring him back)

    I hate that they did this. In fact, I hate the direction Marvel is taking all together. DC tried to change things up with New 52, and it failed. They realized their mistake and they are shifting the focus back to the origins of the characters. Marvel is changing things up to fit some strange idea of political correctness. Which is ok I guess, but I would rather them simply make new characters and not kill off or gender or race swap pre-exisiting ones. I grew up loving wolverine and thor.. now they made them female. Sucks.

    • @Darkrockmanbeyond

      Yeah I'd love if they'd just make new characters. And it's not like women are under represented in comics either. There are so many female X-Men and Avengers. Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Wasp, She Hulk, Spider-woman, Storm, Jean Grey, etc.
      What I do think is an under represented demographic are hispanics, asians, and arabs.
      Saying black people and women are under represented in comics is laughable at best.

      +The Maker Yeah, I love strong female characters and diverse characters, but not when it's done as a cheap gimmick. With DC rebirth, the animated movies, live action shows and videogames we see that they still care about narrative story telling and their comic book fans. While Marvel is becoming more and more of a cash cow. The only medium that shows creativity and impressive is their Netflix, but I think that's solely due to Netflix. I'd rather Both companies have more diverse shoes with already established characters like raven, zatanna, static shock etc. I really worry on the direction Marvel is going now, while I think DC will be ok.

    Laura Kinney is one of my favourite marvel superheroes/X-men characters. I think her all-new wolverine run is brilliant and her craig kyle/Christopher vost runs are my all time favourite comic book stories. Her new x-23 series is good but I didn't like how they renamed her x23 after tom taylor made her reject that name since it was "a letter and a number" and was her slave name. Her clone, Honey Badger is probably the cutest x man character of all time and love how they incorporate both of them in x men red and other x men titles.

      Do you realize just how creatively confined and one dimensional and boring the comic book universe would be, if people imposed such notions, and limitations just for the sake of them, while failing to realize you're suppose to translate and relate these stories to real life, the source of their inspirations?
      Hence relatability leading to fanship?
      Further more.. Wolverine was, for the most part ENGINEERED, alongside Captain America, Sabretooth, Deadpool and Fantomex...
      why would an established clandestined organizations specializing in eugenics and biowarfare drop such lucrative project, with multple results, because.... unseen specators may go... "Boring! She's just a girly copy!!"
      Can you imagine your disembodied voice echoing over these fictional characters from a different dimension?

Writers always changed superheroes a little, but they changed the concept like Marvel is doing now. I like Wolverine because of his character, not because of what he does. X-23 does the same shit, but I like Logan. Marvel should make new superheroes without killing, depowering or retiring the classic ones.

      Munzur Baba 1 thats nice and hey there is another Logan now so its not like you have to say good bye to him , 2 x-23 was already her own character , all they did was change her name and role in the X men 3 its comics , super heroes dont stay dead or "replaced" and the events have actually resulted in some nice stories . superior spidermen , miles morales and Captain Sam have actually resulted in some good stories and even though Peter parker is back and so it steve , i still hope to see more of sam , miles and doc oct . also and lastly comic books are getting older , the world is getting older and so even whit Frank time diluting powers , Logan and all the other characters are going to grow older so its only natural for there characters to develop and change over time . anime and other forms of media do it all the time , hell there are alot of DBZ fans that where actually hoping for DBS to focus on Gohan the same way the next naruto series will focus on Boruto or how JoJo bizarre adventures gets a brand new Joster family member every generation to be the Lead in that series .
      it was only natural that a genius like peter parker would turn in to the next tony stark over time and whit those changes come the change to his placement in the world but now we have fans crying over not having a street level spidermen , in comes miles . and its not like Marvel is not the only one , look at how many robins we have had . but marvel fans are always the most vocal in there uproar , I WONDER WHY!!!

    X-23 was one of the characters that brought new life to Wolverine and helped bring more substance to Logan. In fact she was the reason I started reading X-Men once again. I quite love the direction they are taking with her, although she still needs more development and stories in order to fill in the big shoes of her father. If we get to see something with the same magnitude as Old Man Logan written for her, that would completely solidify her presence in the X-Men series and will bring more Marvel fans to the publications about mutants.

  • @chrisclarke4665
    @chrisclarke4665 Před 8 lety +10

    I hate the very idea of her being wolverine. Marvel needs to stop making every character a title that can allow any character to carry as some kind of mantle. I think Marvel needs to go back to their roots and show why people love these characters so much then just make new characters take on these heroes. Yes, some legacy heroes work i.e. Miles, Jaime Reyes, Terry Mcguiness. But you can't give every hero a legacy character. It just doesn't work. You can't resolve poor comic book sales by just making a legacy character for said hero. Maybe the reason DC is beating Marvel in comic book sales is because they actually care about their heroes and why they are so important. I hope the people on the other side of the argument have more nuance to the argument than just saying. "Well you just don't like change."or " You're just a bigot."

    • @zisker1997
      @zisker1997 Před 8 lety +1

      You had me until you brought up DC. I hate the way DC uses their characters as a brand... the bat Family, Super man/girl/boy, AquaMan/Lad... how many different Flashes and Green Lanterns? Marvel does it a bit too, with all the Spiderman/pig/IronSpider/CrimsonSpider...
      My main gripe with Marvel is the womanization of all the heroes... I'm just waiting for Cyclopsette, or Colossus Girl... Beast will get a cadre of Beast Babes to mob around with him...Have they done Ice Woman yet? Or female Nightcrawler?
      This whole era of comics feels like a giant 'What If' comic... What if all heroes were women? Such a lack of creativity!

    I just feel like Old Man Logan is not the version of Logan we need around mentoring Laura. I think there should be a way to bring back the 616 Logan and have him claim the title of Weapon X. I also think that Logan himself needs a new struggle because Old Man Logan is not compelling enough for a long term character.
