I read that some people buy cheap carpet and cover the walls and the floor. The carpet prevents sound from bouncing off the walls or floor. If you use furniture, it will absorb sound waves from the square feet of furniture, but it won't block sound from the majority of the walls which have nothing to absorb the sound. How do you feel about this❓

Single clap your hands in your room listening position and listen to the fall off - that will tell you a lot about what you need to do. Large hard flat surfaces are where to start.
