    Amazing base! It looks like you have lots of long branches that you can use for approach grafts. That will be an amazing tree once you rebuild it!

      Yes, the base is a monster! I am super excited to work on this tree!

    Happy New Year and Merry Christmas! It was with great pleasure that I "walked" in your garden all last year. I watched how it changes and develops. Thank you so much for your videos. Russia, Andrey.

    ese árbol hay que reestructurarlo entero, tiene las ramas mal posicionadas además de tener la brotación muy lejos y desordenada
    hay que injertar nuevas ramas y darle una nueva disposición. El árbol tiene mucho potencial con ese nevari para ser un gran bonsái

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 2 lety +1

      ¡Exactamente! Necesita mucho trabajo, pero con el gran nebari, tiene un gran potencial. ¡Será un proyecto divertido a largo plazo!

      @@MomijiEn va a ser un proyecto apasionante de los que a mi me gustan, la base ya la tienes ahora solo te queda sacarle el jugo, no me cabe duda de que tiene un gran futuro

    I’m diggin your PVC Pipe cold frame. Is that a kit? Or self ingenuity?
    That tree is fantastic any way you look at it. Nebari, trunk thickness, taper, branching, subranching, leaf reduction. Sure, you pointed out area for improvement, but WOW

      Love my DIY cold frame! I got an idea from my friend but i created a blueprint then built it. You can get all the parts from Home Depot and it's pretty cheap. The most expensive one is the tarp with really solid material but it will last many many years so it's worth it! Yes I fell in love with the tree at first sight! Looking foward to working on it!

    Did you use pure Akadama to add to the slip potted JM? Looked like it, or perhaps Turface.

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes 100% Akadama to keep the adequate moisture in the soil with minimum watering needs during the winter.

    Is there a reason you didn't prune in late fall and are waiting until late winter early spring?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 2 lety +1

      It was already early winter at least over 4 weeks after the tree dropped leaves so it was too late for me to prune this tree, also cold weather is expected so wanted to work on this till late winter :)

    The tree's nebari is excellent. Squirrels are a garden menace who dig up my seedlings. I am sorry they damaged your tree. Perhaps the damage will stimulate new creative possibilities. I have bought wire cloches to protect my young plants. The smell of mentholatum also deters squirrels if rubbed around the edges of pots.

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes the nebari is quite amazing! I recently acquired this tree from someone who suffered the branch loss. Looking forward to protecting and growing this tree to the next stage! 😁

    Can you not chop a section out of the long right hand branch to bend it up creating a new leader? Like the wedge cut you see on a pine. Nice tree btw :-)

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 2 lety +1

      I am trying not to chop the long branch but I cant really bend it as it's thick so will snap if I do. Hmmm

    Very nice tree! I would try and graft some branches back in that location it's worth a try. Also what are your thoughts on a winter fertilizer ? I just bought a 3-12-12 and wonder if it helps the tree during winter. Id like to see the pruning of this tree also.Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄🎄🎄🎄

    • @razor2ts
      @razor2ts Před 2 lety

      Don't fertilise during dormancy, best time to start is after the first flush of leaves have hardened off.

    • @Chris-oq6kn
      @Chris-oq6kn Před 2 lety +1

      @@razor2ts I do understand that but I have seen some people use a zero nitrogen and high p and k for the winter to build better roots. Some people use bone meal also.Just wanted to know I'm not sure a 3 is really going to do much

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes I agree, I need to develop some branches for thread grafting. I dont fertilize during winter. I am sure some people do for a reason but I just don't see a need for my trees. I do however fertilize in fall with low nitrogen.

    What a bizarre looking nebari. The tree is grafted, right?
