Brandon, did you ever revisit this? I'm wondering if if would be possible to run more powerful cards with a setup like this? A lot of the mining rigs I see people using here on CZcams are well over $1K before any gpus are even bought. So if we could use an old i5 machine like this that people throw out all the time, drop in a good power supply and then the splitter we've saved enough to pay for a decent gpu.
Love the build. This is how mining videos should be. Recycle and reuse old hardware instead of paying thousands for high end stuff which you can't even get
Hiya! Really nice kitty :D Yeah I have using a 4-way splitter in one of my mining rigs and it works very well, actually better than when I using all PCI-e slots on the motherboard! I like the way you setup things, chaos and temporairly solutions :D Not a bad thing, it still works!
hey man, thats awesome rig you have right there,, how did you manage to make it work two different gpu in one mobo, i have gtx 1070 and 1660ti cant make it work in one pc!!!
Huh, I was just thinking about these; Are there any good options for splitters made new these days? I have a couple spare boards but they only have a single 16x and a few 1x, but I'd like to get at least 6-8 cards on each mobo?
1st card ofcourse connected to monitor... But Do i need a video output cable on a 2nd card.. or can i just plug it in and use it without any cable but the power connected ??? .. i remember in the old days you could damage your card if you did not connect a monitor output cable to the card
Did you ever get more than four cards to run? I have the exact same computer and I am running a four-way Splitter on it and can get four cards to run with no changes to bios. But I can't seem to get more than four cards to run. Is this motherboard capable of running more than four?
I have the same Dell Optiplex and I run for graphics cards on it with a 4-way splitter but I can't seem to do more than four. I did not change any bios settings because I don't see any options to change.
I can't even get my 1x4 splitter to work on a Dell Optiplex 780. I am able to run 2 cards but when i go beyond 2, it keeps saying "error allocating mem bar for pci device".
@@rmhrmh9459 I’m running windows 10 since there was a free update a few years back. For me, the problem is not with windows but the bios or chipset. The error I’m getting is “error allocating mem bar for pci device”. I assume this is a problem with the chipset. I already resetted the bios and nvram but nothing worked. Updating the bios doesn’t work either for me so idk.
Hey Brandon! I am currently trying to make a 3++ GPU rig out of an Acer x1800 (2009 OEM prebuilt with 2 PCI-E slots) using 1 to 4 expansion cards, but only able to get up to 2 cards recognized. did you try to install more GPUs on this budget rig that you built? I'm really confused since the bios is super old, it doesn't have any 4G mode for mining...
no 75 is limit given by pci ( for the card without external pin ( like the nvidia gt ) ,, when u use riser , the pc don't give his own watt by the pci connector but by the connector 8 pin , all the power can come only from 8 pin , 8 pin and pci are in parralale , they are same , it's better to have more parralale cable for less drain ampere on each cable , even if 8 pin is enough for all ( u don't even pci power ) if u have 8 pin connector

But when I try to use the 2nd GPU into the 2nd x15 with a riser, it clicks and won't boot. I've done all the Gen 1 or Gen 2 stuff, 4G decoding etc....I've even tried a 4x1 PCIE expander but no luck! Cables are correct, risers getting power and power to the GPUs. Windows recognises two GPUs but has a '!' next to one of them. Drivers are up to date etc Asus Z390 Pro A EVGA 1000w PSU Corsair 8gb RAM 120GB SSD Any help would be great!

u can add the splitter in pci 1x don't need to use in 16x , it's don't separate line , it's just use in parralale the x1 lane it's a splitter , it's not use each line of pci bandwitch for each usb ( 1x for usb 1 , 2x for usb 2 slot , 3x for usb3 slot and so ... )

I came for the cat!
0:28 If you plugged that 8:1 into a riser then plugged that into a 1:4 on the mobo PCI slot it would cause a rift in the space time continuum.
this is really dope.. i hope to expand my own rig and maybe build another one.
Doesn't this depend on how many lanes the CPU has as to how many you can actually hook up?
thanx brotha u have helped myself and im sure many others i have built a dell optiplex mining farm .keep it up

Why not both
You you can turn the pc and power supply on at the same time.
You should try this on a h110 BTC+ pro board
WHAT is the splitter actually called? Im trying to find one to buy. Thanks
Sorry I’m late but it’s a “pcie 16x to 8-port usb 3.0 riser”
Thanks for the info, it’s like you read my mind 🤣👍🏻 Keep up the good work.

currently waiting to hear back from ubit
Does hash rate decrease?
You need to turn on Above 4G Decoding in the BIOS.
Is there an option to do that on this Dell computer because I could not find one

Very interesting information. 🤔 👍
Managed to find one on eBay waiting for it to come in the mail to hook it up to a b450 carbon
How did it go?
how was it?
Hows power delivery with the PCIe slot? are you sure it wont fry it when getting more cards in? Atleast if they are high power cards

Your usb splitter might have a power sata connector on it for extra power
Thanks where can we buy this extender?
Is there something else we could use? I have the same dell without the 4G decode and running into this issue. Thanks man!

Silly question could that just be done riser to usb or would it have to be riser to pci some how?
Big work❤
Gr8 bro... Also your heart.
So u need the 8 splitter & cupple single splitter also for cards
Discord link didn’t work, and do you have a link to that x8 splitter?
Do you need any special configuration on the bios and windows settings too?

Whats the hash rate for your gt 1030? I can only get it to pull like 90h/s
Cool, I’ve used a 4 x before, but never saw an 8 x.

i have some doubts
1 is it possible to connect multiple gpu without sli ?
2 is pci riser safe
Yes and depending of how you set them up yes
Anyone got a link? 🤔

Do you think I can put 2xRX6800 into my old dell?
Does splitters have disadvantages?

Is it possible to run Graphiccard and a sound cart from such setup?

what kind of pc u used with that ?

Is there anyway to make a windows rig run more than 8 gpus issue free? :)

Please excuse my noob question but Is there anyway that I can run this externally on a laptop?
