I graduated high school in 1978 and as time goes on, I'm more and more thankful for growing up in that era. We had the best music in every genre. In rock, there was Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Boston, Styx, Kansas, etc. In folk we had James Taylor, Carole King, Cat Stevens, John Denver, etc. It was a very rich time, musically, in all genres.
The late great Jimmy Stokely with the long hair, they lost him at 41 years of age to hepatitis. This was / is their greatest hit to date. A real earworm of a tune that never seems to date.
Haven't heard this one in years! The harmonies of the '70's and '80's are hard to beat, and a big reason why today's music quite frankly isn't as good.
Your right about the cassette thing, Phil. Your choices in the '80's would have been fm radio or cassette (and maybe a dated 8-track, but those were mostly phased out by then). CD's weren't mainstream 'til the '90's. And you learned the hard way not to leave your cassettes laying on your dashboard in the hot sun, lol.
Let's not forget the 50's and 60's and the great groups from back then like the Association, Frankie Valli and the Four Season, The Beach Boys and many, many others.
SAM, it really showed how much you enjoyed this song 😊 Or was it the whole KISS YOU ALL OVER idea that got to you? Either way, I truly enjoy your physical reactions You two are great!!!
In the 1970's Artists wanted to sound at least as good Live as they did in the Studio. The Musicians took pride in sounding like they did in the Studio.
Jimmy Stokely (long hair) sadly passed at 42 years old from complications of Hepatitis. He WAS this song, to me, and even though the group is still around, I feel he was the draw for the song back then.
This is an example of rock with country influence. The harmonies, in particular, were a hallmark of that era in country, with bands like the Oak Ridge Boys.
I remember the song but had forgotten Exile! This was written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. They wrote many hits for many artists, most notably the Sweet and Suzy Quatro. Cheers.
There are certain people who can pull off certain unique styles of clothing. Jimmy Stokely, the lead singer, is one of them. Freddie Mercury, David Bowie are some others. There are many more though. God, we had such incredible music back in the day!! RIP Jimmy.
Eight track and cassettes, vinyl and radio was all we had. They may have been a one hit wonder in pop, but may have had a number 1 in country. I loved all of the music in the 70s, but also 60s and 80s. I had about a thousand records. Then I converted them to cd, and accumulated 5,000 cds. I absolutely love this music.
70s kid here. Great reaction. Strong memories of my first girlfriend in the summertime when I was a 9th grader and she was a 10th grader. This was on the radio a lot and she and her sister also bought this album along with a bunch of other albums, and plus I had a bunch also, and this was so popular for a while, and whenever they sing, I want to kiss you all over, she would flash me this devilish grin, and it would just totally slay me, lol.
Your right I can't remember if it was 2 or 3 albums they cut. There music was out of this world good this is the only song they did that made a major hit . Stokley had a vocal range out of this world. Hold Tight Woman was very good Devils Bite almost made it to hit status . They played at club 68 in Lebanon KY twice a month almost cost $3 to get in I was about 20 miles from there and spent the weekends there. Th lead vocalist maybe the best male vocalist I've ever heard . he did die from hepatitis and a broken heart JP can tell you about that if you can get him to tell the truth about it. Their then manager had JP to let stokley go. That was their end as far as pop rock goes they was far better at rock than they are/was country.
I was born in 70 and remember loving this tune!!! It was HUGE at the roller rinks. Thanks for the trip down memory lane guys!!! Have a great day... GO BOSTON BRUINS!!! 🤟👏🍻
Back in the day this was an excellent song to listen to at the skating rink on a Friday night. It's a fantastic tune and no one, i mean no one disliked it. Everyone got into it, even the older generation.
You overlooked the excellent piano work on this song, especially on the line, "when the night closes in." That's the instrument that Shands out to me. Thanks for the reaction, B & B!
Great song, huge hit that was played all over the radio stations back in the day!We did have The Sony Walkman back in the late 1970’s and could go running or hang out on the beach with the headphones on!
Ahhh! The memories this brings back! One of my all time favorites! Thanks for ya'll's reactions! I really enjoy watching ya'll react to the best time in music history the 70's and 80s
A cassette or radio would have been the only way to listen to music in the car back then. Probably even 8 track still in the late 70's (which was the tape before cassettes)
I was a child of the 70’s and in my opinion was the best era of music of ALL TIME! ( 70’s was REAL music! Not the crap they call music today! I was (and still am ) a fan of classic/progressive Rock from the late 60’s through the late 80’s with the 70’s being the best!
Love this one! I used to watch Midnight Special every Friday night was I was a young teenager! I remember watching this. We also used to watch Don Kirshner 's rock concert.
👍🤗. I loved the seventies I was in high school and married with 2 kids at the time!!😂 . And we listened on the radio am and then later FM stereo!🤗🤗. It was a great time in my life and was topped off with great music 😊. Thank you guys I really enjoy you. Have a Blessed Day 🦋
Not a bad tune on that record. Try "You Thrill Me". They were a really good disco group that came out just before the death of disco. Then they became a country band.
It was listened to on what’s called an 8 track that most cars had or cassettes which were the more modern format again some cars had and later all cars had. When I was a kid Making mix tapes was an art form and almost a part of courting. You’d give each other homemade mix tapes or you’d create special ones for each event including dates. Then you and friends would be sharing mixed tapes. My sister had a collection of like 800 records all in crates. She'd DJ parties. Having boom box's of all, sizes was how we listened to music we’d take them everywhere and when you went to the beach it was a cocaphony of competing BoomBoxes. People would just carry HUGE ones around the bus, the train. My boyfriend used all his money to buy me my first one and got it with his dad’s discount from working at Sears. I was born in 73 and this song was in 76 but I have the memory of an elephant and know this one was on the 8 track in my dad’s car.
I have to add to the comment I just sent regarding how we listened to music I said the radio but of course I didn’t mention vinyl allums, which was a process when you put your record on the turntable 🤗🤗! You were careful not to touch it only on the edge so you didn’t dare get your finger prints on it. Then you would take your record pad it was shaped like roll and clean it make sure there was no dust on it then of course very carefully set the needle on! I know this sounds like a big process this was done by mostly obessed people like my husband! I remember we had saved and bought piece of equipment at a time so he took very good care of it. To this day all the allums are in perfect condition 😂😂👍! This has been the most long winded message I’ve ever left😂😂. Thank you for giving me those memories back! Have a Blessed Day 🦋
I think they were formed around 1964-65, what a classic record from my era, the whole sound is superb with harmonies seriously on point, Im 65 years old and listened to this last week, a true dance floor filler from back then
I fell madly in love with a beautiful, wonderfully intelligent girl (Valedictorian) in '78, my senior year of HS. She was perfect. This was our song and dancing closely, smiling and staring into each others eyes while it played, was heaven.
This was on *heavy* rotation on pop radio in the day. Kind of defined a certain type of song that just was easy on the ears, even if it ended up being their only mainstream hit...before they went country!
This song was HUGE! It spent a bunch of weeks at #1 in 1978. They were a one-hit wonder on the singles chart, but they were actually the first to record the song that Huey Lewis made popular, "Heart And Soul."
Good reaction. It always helped make a song popular when the lyrics were easily understandable and easy to sing along to. Thanks for acknowledging how we had to wait for the radio play to hear it. One of the improvements today is seeing the artist's name. I knew this song but not "Exile". "Free" is another great band with good hits but I only learned their name a decade ago on xm radio.
Super happy you checked this song out!! I'm pretty sure that this was the live performance from The Midnight Special show, in 1978. Glad you mentioned the fab harmonies which also included the other band members. Seems to have gone out of style somewhat, with passing of the decades. Still love the 70's vibes no matter what decade I find myself in 🤩✌
People could actually sing back then!! That’s what’s up with the 70’s 😅
Yep - Practice and practice to build up your Abilities and talent. You wouldn't dare let a machine do your work like they do now............
and they were much more creative then
TRUTH!
And communicated with others much more ❤❤❤❤
Back when men could tell a woman she was beautiful and sexy - and she didn't find it offensive! Thank God I was living the love back then. Great song.
Oh so true or just date an older woman who will appreciate affection!😄
Still can! LOL Tons of songs saying the same things today, just not in the office.

Class of 77 and I couldn't agree more.
💯👍🤘
Bicentennial Class of ‘76 and totally agree!
Class of 1977. I agree 100%
Class of 79 couldn't say it any better. I had to look to make sure it wasn't my comment!😅
Yeah, this song was fire back in the day and it’s still a great song now. Totally timeless.!!
With all their faults, radio was indeed the medium that brought music into greatness and the record companies found & filtered the talent.
The late great Jimmy Stokely with the long hair, they lost him at 41 years of age to hepatitis. This was / is their greatest hit to date. A real earworm of a tune that never seems to date.

You two are great!!!
Right 😂 I’ve been listening to the little River band harmonies man they were fantastic ❤ it’s a long way there and NightOwl are fabulous songs
In the 70's we listened to AM and FM radio, cassettes and 8-track tapes in our cars.
AND played records on our stereos........
Nice to hear, this generation appreciating the quality of the music and lyrics. We grew up with it, just taking it for granted and loving it.
In the 1970's Artists wanted to sound at least as good Live as they did in the Studio. The Musicians took pride in sounding like they did in the Studio.

Exile went on to be big in country music in the 80's.
Yep, i was devastated after that. They should have stayed rock....
They had some great ones!
• Give Me One More Chance
• I Can’t Get Close Enough
• Nobody’s Talkin’
• She’s a Miracle
Didn't they do a country version of Kiss you all over?
@donalddixon6541 get out of here ha ha I like their country ones.
@@kennethgodwin7769 They did re-record for one of their Greatest Hits album in 1990.
i was a teenager in the 70s and im pretty confident i grew up with the best music
AAAAALLLLL DDDDDAAAAYYYY LLLLOOOONNNGGG
Watched Exile performing this on The Midnight Special when I was a kid. My parents allowed my brothers and I to stay up late on Fridays to watch
An absolute Classic!!
Perfect late night early morn tune 👍😉
✌️❤️🇦🇺
Back in the 70s, my brother and I didn't have much cash, so we held tape recorders up to the radio to record songs we liked.
Excellent song❤ Yes, the harmonies were awesome. So nice to hear this one again❣️.
So nice to hear it for the first time too!
Bet there was a lot of love making to this song in the 70’s! 😝 I’ve always loved this song
I remember the song but had forgotten Exile! This was written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. They wrote many hits for many artists, most notably the Sweet and Suzy Quatro. Cheers.
I don't know about that but ill Google it . I thought jimmy and JP Wrote that.

And that's a good thing.
FOX ON THE RUN by Sweet casette started in the 60's

when they all kick in on the " Till the night closes in " reminds me so much of The Bee Gees
One of their country oriented tunes, "Super Love" is worth a listen for sure.
I dont know how this music hasnt made a comeback AS-IS!!!
I started my freshman year in 1970 and graduated college in 1978 and I have no regrets! Love our music and so enjoy younger people appreciating it!
My husband and I enjoyed our first dance together as man and wife to Exiles "YOU AND ME" from their "MIXED EMOTIONS" ALBUM. The whole album is great.
P.S. We have been married for 44 years.

I love the timekeeping in this song. I find the skip beat leading into the chorus to be very pleasing. Just a great tune.
This is one of the most underrated songs of the 70s. So glad you guys covered it!
They are still touring... just seen them and Alabama a little over a year ago.
They are still sounding good live.
Really? That’s awesome, had no idea 😄
1978, I was a junior in high school. Exile was from Richmond, KY (near Lexington. I believe the group started in the 60s.
That song still kicks ass exile were rocking out

Adam Sandler sang this as Happy Gilmore 😀
I was going to say that, too lol
Only reason I know the song lol 😂
You no want breakfast?
First time I even heard this song was in Adam Sandlers, "Happy Gilmore" back in like 1997 when he was singing it over the intercom! LOL.
Yes!!...I came here looking for this comment. 😃....
ALWAYS loved this song. Brings back so many memories…..🎶
First heard this song in the movie Employee of the month, loved it ever since!😅
I had forgotten about this song! Thanks for rekindling the memories! Those were my teen years!
One of my favorites for sure! ♥Thanks for reaction, awesome

Such great harmonies, for sure, great song!! One of my favorite oldies!!❤❤❤

Between late 1983 and early 1988, Exile charted ten number-one singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts

Great tune. Man, how was I so lucky to have grown up in such an awesome era.. 😀
The title is “Kiss You All Over” because it’s better than anything else they could have chosen

Back in the 70s this song was considered to risky for the radio, and a lot of stations would not play this song.
I think they were formed around 1964-65, what a classic record from my era, the whole sound is superb with harmonies seriously on point, Im 65 years old and listened to this last week, a true dance floor filler from back then
From what I know, they were a country rock band…this was their only pop crossover song that was a chart topper #1 Billboard Hot 100.
I know you like quality musicianship so therefore I recommend the band Sugarloaf and their big song Green-Eyed Lady... you will not be disappointed!
This was a great one to get out on the dance floor to!
Happy Gilmore introduced me to this song and I’ve loved it ever since 🤣
I fell madly in love with a beautiful, wonderfully intelligent girl (Valedictorian) in '78, my senior year of HS. She was perfect. This was our song and dancing closely, smiling and staring into each others eyes while it played, was heaven.

In Manitoba we have socials & in the 70's in the summer there were socials almost every weekend & dancing like crazy.

Some of Kentuckys' finest!
In the 70s and 80s we argued about which group was the best. 40-50 years later we're still arguing, but it's still about the same groups.
Love them heard them the other day on RFD channel they are older but still sound great.
On Larry’s Diner? That’s where I saw them and I was surprised how good their sound was.
Good reaction. It always helped make a song popular when the lyrics were easily understandable and easy to sing along to. Thanks for acknowledging how we had to wait for the radio play to hear it. Yea they sang a song from free damn I can't remember to the name it was awesome.
ALL RIGHT NOW !!
I LOVED THIS WHEN IT CAME OUT I LOVE IT TODAY!!!!WOW 63?

OMG I forgot about this song! 😂 brings me back to church basement dances on a Friday night when I was like 13-14ish! 😂 ✌🏻thanks for the memories!
Classic
1978 was the tail end of the 8-track age... and cassettes were becoming all the rage.
Midnight special was all live according to the production company this is studio version
A great band and song! Great reactions !
They were formed in Kentucky I forget the year I performed in a band in the 90s that opened for them
Super happy you checked this song out!!
