- Hey friends! In this episode of our Vanlife Australia Roadtrip we go off-road, along the Mereenie Loop "short-cut" to King's Canyon. This is part of the Red Centre Way, and one of the great off-road driving adventures in Central Australia. We heard conflicting reports about the condition of this road, and let's just say it was an experience. We let the tyres down and tried to ignore the rattles and shaking from the back of the van.
We stayed in an amazing cliff-top free camp just 10km from the end of the dirt road, and 25km from Kings Canyon. We hiked the Canyon Rim (twice), visited the Karrke Aboriginal Tour experience and generally just marvelled at the incredible sights of the Watarrka National Park.
Please consider subscribing to our channel - we bring you travel guides and vanlife tips weekly with a peek into our lives on the road.

Dear Nigel & Sue, thank you for another terrific tour & your information on everything you see. It beats looking at N.C.I.,& cooking classes on the idiot box! Keep safe, Elaine
Thank you Elaine! Hopefully we inspire people to get outside into nature, and away from said idiot box!
I haven't seen Kings Canyon for over 20 years, but I vividly remember how stunning it was. I really enjoyed seeing your visit there and reliving it vicariously through you!! Can't wait to do it again in a couple of years!
Yea it was about 25 years since I’d been there. Even more amazing than I remembered.
Thanks Nigel and Sue.... Another spectacular video. That scenery is breathtaking. Thanks for bringing us all along. 😁👍
Thanks so much for watching Peter.
Another beautiful video. We had the door of our fridge fall off once in a corrugated road. I couldn’t get over how many caravans had traversed that road…… seems there are not too many places left that humans have not tramped. Thanks again for a lovely trip
Oh gosh that would be a disaster!! Thanks for watching. 🧡
Those 500 steps, my calves where hurting for you. You guys are truly seeing some of the most beautiful country we have in Australia. You're making me want to hit the road 😁
There’s so much to see in the NT Leanne, have you been over here?
@@nigelandsueadventures not yet. Was heading there last year but chickened out after having motor problems.
DEFINETLY wanting to do it.
Spectacular 🤪 Cool info, who knew ~ white rocks?! 💋✨🚐
I know right? The entire area is like that!

Thanks mate!!
Some spectacular scenery. I’m with you Sue on the Camel burgers. I’m primarily vegan. 😁
Thanks Lynne, it’s such a beautiful part of the country. One of my favourite hikes to date.
Spectacular!
But, did ‘zip it’ work!?
Not exactly haha!
😂😂 no…
Hi Nigel and due I luv watching your vids just wondering what you use for editing your vids...
We are a bit old school, and have been using iMovie, but we are just changing to Final Cut Pro
Great vids love them, going g their next mthcant wait.
You mentioned a drone permit? In vic you don't need one is this just because off the area? And price if you don't mind me asking
In the NT you need a permit to fly your drone in the National Parks, and even then, there are places you can’t fly. Also, you can not fly in Uluṟu - Kata Tjuta or KAkadu NP at all.
The recreational permit for NT Parks is free. We did see rangers checking.
We are actually back in the NT right now, will have a video out next week, the drone shots over kings Canyon are incredible!
@@nigelandsueadventures thankyou 🙏, can't wait 😊

I have no idea how much the camel burgers were, I wouldn't eat one! The Karrk tour was $98 per person. Well worth it.
