- Brush Creek at first glance from the road is an unsuspecting micro creek, but after paddling down a few hundred feet, it opens up into a great creek with a surprising number of drops, all of which are quite clean. There are a few river wide logs and branches to get caught up in (as I did before one of the bigger slides), but for the most part, the creek is relatively clean, although it is always a good idea to get out and check for wood.
This is the first run that I have done where it was a new run for the whole group - Diane ran this creek about 5 years ago, but didn't remember most of the run, so we got out and scouted every drop and eddy hopped our way down. After Brush Creek, we drove a short distance to Big Laurel, which also flows into the French Broad Section 9. It is quite easy to do both of these runs in a single day. Thanks to Diane and Daniel Brausell for a great day on the water!

Definitely too long! Took me 22 years to get out here, I definitely will be making a return as soon as possible! So many cool creeks to explore, unique geography and lots of rain makes for a great kayaking destination!
