    The King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) is the longest venomous snake in the world and the Black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is the second longest venomous snake in the world. The King cobra has huge venom yields and the Black mamba is one of the fastest and most venomous snakes on our planet. The King cobra lives in Asia and it is famous for eating other snakes and the Black mamba is the most feared snake of Africa, maybe the whole world. Which one of these two snakes is deadlier? In this video we use 5 categories to find out who would win a hypothetical battle between these deadly snakes! We compare the behavior, size, speed, venom and also how difficult it is to handle these snakes.
    Remember that snakes are never aggressive, only defensive if they feel threatened! Calm handler = calm snake.

    If an adult king cobra injects at least 300mg of venom, and 20mg is a potentially lethal dose, then the king cobra typically injects at least 15x a lethal dose of venom. If a black mamba injects 120mg and a lethal dose on the low end is 10mg, then a black mamba injects 12x the lethal dose of venom. And this is using your low estimates of the king cobra and upper estimates of black mamba venom. So even though mamba venom is clearly more toxic, wouldn't a king cobra bite, then, be more lethal due to sheer venom amount? Someone let me know what I'm missing.

      Anything after 1 times the lethal dose is a bad time. When you start to get into the 10x or 15x i dont think it matters to much because you will be dead if you dont have the anti venom handy. In a fight i think whoever gets a good bite off first will win. Most likely they would kill each other in a fight.

    The difference between a Mamba and a King Cobra is the when a Mamba bites you you phone your wife and kids and tell them good bye --- you've got 45min , so hopefully you have reception.
    The KC is deadly - no arguments but with the right anti venom your chances are almost 100% of surviving. With the mamba your chances are about 50/50 with anti venom

    • @LivingZoology
      @LivingZoology  Před 11 dny +1

      You can survive longer than that with the Black mamba bite, several hours. It is important to get breathing support. You have a good chance of surviving with antivenom. Some places with many Black mambas have antivenom available (Durban, coast of Kenya). With the King cobra bite you will most likely die because the amount of venom is huge so you can die quickly from the overdose. Also, in most Asian countries there is no antivenom so you can call your family in this case.

    I wonder if it's more dangerous to be stung by two snakes or one coastal taipan. Is the venom of these two snakes combined equal to the venom of the taipan? By the way, I'm a taipan fan.

    • @FischerFan
      @FischerFan Před měsícem

      I believe it's a foregone conclusion that the venom of any species of taipan is, drop for drop, more potent than that of the black mamba. On Wiki's list of dangerous snakes, the only two that make its 'extremely dangerous' short list are the black mamba and the coastal taipan. I know that when it comes to dry bites, they are all but unheard of where these two species are concerned.
      Both are known to deliver multiple strikes in a single attack. Obviously, neither one is a snake to fool around with. If I had to have an encounter with one of them, I'd probably take my chances with the taipan because the speed and agility of the black mamba is simply unmatched.

    • @LivingZoology
      @LivingZoology  Před měsícem +1

      Maybe yes, but the Black mamba is faster and has a very potent venom, to which the King cobra might not be resistant.

  • @victorcarbino8736
    @victorcarbino8736 Před měsícem

    The mamba is definitely meaner, but the king would definitely eat the mamba. The only question is, would the king survive the counter strike, or has he not evolved enough resistance?

    • @LivingZoology
      @LivingZoology  Před měsícem

      Yes, the questionable thing is the venom resistance and the ability to chase the mamba (which is faster).

    • @kevinchandler179
      @kevinchandler179 Před 25 dny

      If the king doesn't have enough venom resistance then he would be in serious trouble!!! The Mamba is much faster and aggressive and would bite the king a few times before he even knew what hit him, and slowly but surely it's game over!!!!!

  • @veruslupus
    @veruslupus Před 18 dny

    in reality its rather irrelevant statistics wise. each has potent enough venom and enough of it to kill each other assuming no immunity to venom from a species they've evolved separately from. essentially unless the comparison is between something like a mangrove snake and a mamba or something this is probably going the always be the result for geographically distanced snakes. its getting to the point that the only categories that will actually matter is how each snake sees the other and intelligence, like whats this weird looking snake is going to be a different response to hmm i wonder if i can eat this. King cobra and some of the kraits might be interesting if there was a caveat that the individuals were similar size
