  • As the US prepared to strike back in Europe and the Pacific, the Navy prepared for the logistical challenge by creating construction battalions, the famous Seabees. Today's object chronicles the first time the Seabees went into combat at Guadalcanal.
    Thanks!

My dad was there as a SeaBee and an MP. Not sure which battalion he was in, but he used to tell me how the Japanese would bomb the fields and they would fix them daily. Guess, Now I will go dig out the scrap book and see where he was. I have a hand carved box he made while there.

Brad, my dad was also there. I'm just learning about what he did as part of the 6th. I'm beside myself discovering what he went through, because he never told us anything. My nephew shared this book with me today. You might find your dad listed here if he was part of the 6th. My dad was in the 6th. I found him in D company. I hope this helps www.history.navy.mil/content/dam/museums/Seabee/Cruisebooks/wwiicruisebooks/ncb-cruisebooks/6%20%20NCB%201942-45.pdf?fbclid=IwAR05zdmJaTjtrf9Gl-VSl4kXHtCXqhFbrgofiKJnt5YuQJKDuyAWVXe6QJM

@@brachus12 REALLY!!! Oh my gosh. My nephew found the cruise book online last year and I read it cover to cover. I wish I had known those things about my dad while he was still living, but he never discussed anything with me about it. A docent at a museum here for vintage air craft had a conversation with me that got me looking more into things and then my nephew was able to find the book. I don't generally post a link on someone else's channel, but I will will share this one with you in case you haven't seen it. You can look in the back and find your grandfather's name and see exactly what he did www.history.navy.mil/content/dam/museums/Seabee/Cruisebooks/wwiicruisebooks/ncb-cruisebooks/6%20%20NCB%201942-45.pdf
