1:12 "La fille au cheveux de lin" ["The Girl with the Flaxen Hair"]
Don't you wish to spend all the time in the world with the person you're in love with? In this episode of Bach@Home; pianist Magdalena Baczewska (Director of the Music Performance Program and member of Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University) discusses Debussy's beloved prelude "La fille au cheveux de lin" ["The Girl with the Flaxen Hair"]. Debussy famously said "You merely have to listen. Pleasure is the law." He makes us fall in love with "The Girl" whom he portrays bathing in delightful harmonies.
Debussy's Preludes, published in 1910 are a tribute to J. S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier.

Listen to the music, pleasure is the law, now that is a philosophy. Your interpretation is the best I’ve ever heard, I am learning this and will try to to emulate your feelings and pace of the piece. Many thanks for posting this, much love.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Always a privilege listening to you, Prof. Baczewska 😊. ( didn't get very well the Faux Bourdon)
Why is it that only WOMEN seem to be able to play this part of "La fille aux cheveux de lin" - starting at 2:50 - anywhere near correctly? Most male pianists race through this section like a bat out of Hades! Brava, professor Baczewska, and thank you for showing "the boys" how it's really done!
