    Just a tip regarding the "entradas" (bread, butter, olives, etc), if you don't want them you CAN tell the waiter to take them back. By law, they have to do it and cannot charge you for them. I've never met any waiter who felt offended by that, it's totally fine. As we don't work with tips, the people get the same salary regardless.

    I can't thank you enough about mentioning SPF. I am Portuguese, born, raised and still live here. People are very ignorant when it comes to skin cancer. I had melanoma in my 20s and I am someone that doesn't even go to the beach or gets a lot of sun exposure in general. My skin cancer was only diagnosed in my early 30s and I was incredibly fortunate that I didn't take my life. The sun is not your friend!! Please everyone, protect yourselves, apply and reapply SPF when outside.

      Natives of a country can always tell the foreigners apart. But it's also in the body language and the way people dress. For example, locals walk like they know where they're going or like there's nothing to see around them, while tourists walk like they're sightseeing, sometimes even carrying a camera.

You live in Europe yet you complain you can't get a nice latte? And then you stated that people apparently im Russian and English channels basically can agree to disagree in a civilized manner as opposed to Portuguese. Perhaps people in Portugal feel strongly about their country and are proud just as most Canadians are/were for the most part until recent changes bit literally most of your videos are rolling your eyes and being passive aggressive. If you miss the cold and pumpkin spice latte you should definitely have stayed in Canada. Its rainy, cold, dark, we have sun for 5 seconds and even summers aren't promising with sun. Great Video. This one is very accurate. Just one or two comments :) , as it is said on the video we do not appreciate to hear Spanish when he is mistaken with Portuguese, since it is kind putting in cause our "independence" that cost us so hard and much in History to achieve (Spain at that time was the Kingdoms of Castela, Aragão, Navarra e de Leão). But in general we do no dislike the Spanish people. By the contrary, we are very different culturally but we get along very well nowadays.
    Regarding "Uma casa de fado" (a house where Fado is sung), yes, please be totally quiet when the fadista (the singer) is singing, specially if it is a sad music. After some fado songs he/she will take a break and you can resume the joyful time. Otherwise you will probably get a "shhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!" to be quiet :)
    Great Video Yulia. Hug.

      Portuguese native here and from the North (not Lisbon).
      You may not have an issue most times, but it makes people from Portugal feel very invalidated. We're not Spain. At the least, you will get that because it means you think we're all the same when we're not, not to mention the looks from the locals who notice you doing that. They're similar languages, but they're not the same, and it's very insensitive. Sure, some people may "take it" with grace, but it doesn't mean they will feel happy about you doing that - no one does. If you want to speak Spanish, then visit a Spanish speaking country, instead, please.

  • @UbuTube
    @UbuTube Před rokem

    Regarding your comments about the Portuguese getting offended if you speak to them in Spanish - Portugal has a national heroine that is celebrated for having baked seven Spaniards inside her bread oven. I'm not really sure if she burned them alive or killed them with a spade (the official version is that she baked them AFTER killing them...), but they were definitely hiding inside her (huge) bread oven and she killed them. It all happened in the remote year of 1385 and we even have some "azulejo" panels commemorating the deed. You can see the heads of the Spaniards peeking fearfully from inside the oven while she gets ready to kill them. Racism against Spaniards is totally admissible in Portugal, just imagine the same image with seven black men peeking from inside the oven... it would (justifiably) spark an outcry, but with Spaniards it is not a problem The public humiliation of Gungunhana (a Mozambican black ruler) by the Portuguese troops has disappeared from our history books (it was still proudly taught when I was a child) but the "baking" of Spaniards by a Portuguese female baker is glorified. Here's the Wiki of the story (in English) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brites_de_Almeida.
