- London Marylebone Station in November 1986
Upon a day visit to the capital I dropped in to some of the terminal stations. This clip is of London Marylebone filmed on a sunny chilly morning shortly before the morning rush.
The traction featured is of the 4 car fleet of class 115 Diesel Mechanical Units in high demand to cope with the thousands of daily commuters to yet arrive into London.
This video is of many that will be posted "Uncut" and raw footage from my old archive as to speed up the upload times, cutting out all the fancy editing and chopping of material which can be very time consuming. Hopefully the longer pauses will not upset the viewing pleasure (if any)! Seriously there is so much to upload it could take years so by doing without the descriptions and post processes it could be a lot quicker. Please comment on the feature/features and I really do hope to arouse those old memories, good or bad, but mainly good I trust.
I loved my trips to London as a kid, when my mum and i would go to stay with my Aunt Hilda in Battersea. Arriving at Marylebone from Aylesbury in the 80's was something special. The sights, sounds and smells, all heralded another new London adventure!
Yes, the trains and tube were old, dirty and slow, and the stations leaved a lot to be desired also, but I loved it all!
Many thanks for the memories you have shared....Mark
A lovely piece of railway history. People back then probably wouldn’t have thought Marylebone would be thriving in the 21st century. It was cited for closure during some of the 80s, I believe.
Yes it was in a very perilous position....but thankfully BR saw sense....Many thanks and best wishes...Mark
Nice one Mark - I enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Seeing the semaphore signals and the older DMUs. Cheers, Brian
You are most welcome and much appreciated....Mark
Great video! Brings back memories, remember steam speacials and period dramas here, turntable as well? Also remember EThELS and Class15 heating units here, there was ridiculous talk of closing this station in the early 80s
Many thanks Stefan......as always much appreciated....Mark
Ah the crazy practice of inpatient commuters swinging the slam doors open well before the train has stopped! Great memories, thanks for posting.
Yes many a downed person on the platform and lost fingers.......I remember it well....best wishes to you....Mark
Love the atmoshere in this video! Thank you so much!
Kind Regards
Kev
Thank you so much again....Mark
Those old 115's. . . I recall a couple of trips to and from Marylebone, where the driver would forget to put the lights on in some carriages and we'd end up going through the Hampstead and St John's Wood tunnels in pitch darkness! lol
What great times and many thanks....Mark
Great video my friend, never managed to travel on a 115. Hey ho.
Many thanks David and best regards....Mark
Brilliant video, absolutely brilliant. So many memories! You'll have to forgive my failing little grey cells, but was this at the time when only platforms 4, 5 & 6 were in use?
Thank you so much for sharing. I can't believe how much the area has changed - its great that the station is now fully utilised, but the Diesel Depot is sadly missed. I wonder what the residents of the swanky new flats, built on the depot, would make of the colourful language that was often levelled at a recalcitrant Leyland Albion that refused to start at 04.20!!
HHmmm I cannot remember which platforms were in use at the time, thanks for your comment and for watching...best regards....Mark
@@spompeyNo problem, thanks for taking the time to reply.
I must say that it is so refreshing to watch a video that is filmed with a tripod, and that isn't interrupted by flashy graphics and effects - the content is of high enough quality to speak for itself. Really well done. Its a pet hate of mine when the flow if an otherwise very good production is ruined by the editor showing the latest flashy transition or graphics.
This is A very high quality product, and it is much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Zac
👍👍👍great
Many thanks Katerina....best wishes...Mark
